i agree that the guy was well out of order and would not have been signed if i was in charge but desperate times call for desperate measures

If Reardon goes down on April 23rd (which is the date I keep seeing for his sentencing) then this has to be one of the stupidest and most desperate signings in SL history. I know we're desperate for a FB, but is the PR nightmare and embarrassment our club will get from signing this player really worth it for the sake of two games?

According to the press its the 23rd April the court date, which gves him 2 games.

Maybe the club have sought advice from his legal team, and have come to the conclusion that a custodial sentence is unlikely.
Surely, we are not so desperate to sign someone for just 2 matches knowing he will get locked up. Are we??? Surely not

And that starts with rewarding them contracts? Other clubs punish players for being idiots. We decide to bring them in. Most clubs would fine, suspend or sack players for this sort of behaviour (Cockayne suspended, Reardon sacked). Us? No, we reward it.

I don't see what sort of message this signing is going to send out, other than our club condones this type of behaviour whilst other clubs don't.

Well he won't play for long, not with is injury record and his impending court case. I think that that is a disgraceful signing by the club in view of our stand against domestic violence against women and children, which was reinforced by our public showing at the game yesterday. The board should hang their heads in shame. What next, signing Harland, Pryce, and Cockayne? Its as bad as signing the Ku Klex Clan as they have empathy with coloured players. Its about time the club pulled their fingers out and signed a world class scrum half and stop quibbling about the cost! That is if we want to win something! Give the fans what they want.

No. It starts with giving them an opportunity to turn their lives around and thus, at some point in the future, maybe avoid the same situation occurring again. Wouldn't you prefer it if blokes are provided with a means of dealing positively with how they feel and in their relationships with others? Do you not see working with perps to offer them alternative ways of dealing as being something productive for both the perp and society as a whole? I sure do and as a woman myself I'm glad that the perps (either male or female, since both are capable of domestic violence) are being offered some support to turn things around.


It shows that should people want to, they can find a positive way forward even if they have broken da law.

Incidentally, Cockayne pled to ABH (a tougher charge than Reardon) and I suspect it suited Wire perfectly to let Reardon go given that recently they have also let Gleeson go. Agendas and all that.
