Anyone else think that one of the reasons Manu may be stalling could be down to us signing Gareth Ellis? It'll be a concern to him as he may lose his starting spot and will probably see less minutes.


From my pov Manu is a great player and offers something that nobody else in our squad does. Having him, Tickle, Ellis, Westerman and Whiting would be a fantastic back row, probably the best in the league. However, if we did lose him then it wouldn't be the end of the world. We would still have Ellis, Tickle, Westerman and Whiting, as well as Liam Kent for cover who is looking good (and the possibility of Aspinwall getting an extension if Manu leaves).
If Manu leaves then it would be a blow, obviously, but it wouldn't leave a gaping hole in the side. We'd be able to get over it. But if Manu did leave then it would free up a decent size of the salary cap for other positions that more urgently need addressing, such as Prop, Centre, Halfback and possibly Fullback depending on these McKinnon rumours. Manu is also 32 now, 33 at the start of next season, so we shouldn't be tying him down to a long-term deal.

tl;dr It'd be great if he stayed (on realistic terms) but it wouldn't be the end of the world if he left, we'd get over it.

Surely though, thinking logically, if Manu does get spelled a bit more next season, then his career could be prolonged by doing slightly less minutes, which would eventually earn him more money anyway?

Just read the McRea interview on bbc news about it. Manu has been offered an "extremely good" final contract offer (doesn't say how long 1 or 2 years i assume) and he wants an answer in the next few days or early next week. Said he has been running around backwards and forwards to manus management team for the last 6 weeks and believes he wants to stay. and if he doesn't sign and wants to leave at the end of the season then someone must be paying him a hell of a wage. IMO I would love manu to stay my fav player over the last 4 years but we have probably the best back row in super league for next season with or without him so hurry up and decide then we can move onto other targets if needed like a centre or winger.

Think he is holding out for a bit more money maybe because we have a well off owner and hoping for a
final pay off under the table when he retires it happens at other clubs but hush hush

We are a big club we have been badly managed for the past few years
Things are starting to fall in to place for the future. PG inherited this team he will want what he wants for the next few years.

One thing is for sure despite slightly different opinions about Manu we all want him to stay and finish his career at hull.

More likely Brough or Kirk Ella or wherever most of the players live and she's spent the afternoon chained to his garden fence. Maybe that's why he's now rumoured to have signed?

It's upto Manu now, the club have by all accounts done everything they can and offered him an excellent contract. If he can get better elsewhere so be it. Be gutted to lose him but players come and go all the time.

I suspect we are gonna get a lot of this as we have a nuymber of high profile players ooc so whatever happens with Manu I suspect it won't be long before we are talking about Ogre or Moa etc.

I'm certain of it. I'm also pretty sure we'll lose some players that fans might not want to leave. But we can't hold on to the whole squad if we want to progress and I'm more interested in who comes in as replacements than who leaves TBH.

Been told today that we won't be offering O'Meley a new contract and Moa is going because his missus can't get a visa.

I don't mind losing players provided we replace them with quality. Yeah fans have the odd favourite but as long as we sign good replacements the pain soon goes away.

It's when you get rumours like Briscoe going and Hull signing Crookes that I don't like.
