I really hope so Paul.
I have reservations about the appointment but I will support him and I look forward to posting on here either later this season or next season admitting i was wrong and congratulating the board on their choice.

I have no doubt that he'll put enormous effort into the job.
Still not convinced that this is the right move at this time.

| Haven't read the whole of the 23 pages, but in the Metro today he says
Quote
They have had almost four years to look at me and see what I am capable of.

Going on the direction the club has taken recently... well over the last 2 seasons really, I would say that the above quote doesn't fill be with the greatest of confidence... and possibly suggests lack of ambition from the club as opposed to them being really impressed with Agar. We'll see though.
Warrington, no doubt will go for Folkes or Murray for next season. They seem to be ambitious and forward thinking.

| Surely forward thinking is building a franchise that has a team of homegrown talent that you have nurtured.
Yep, that sound like wire and not us.

It's ok nurturing homegrown talent, but if they are not good enough, what then?

| The one thing that strikes me about this appointment is that the board clearly had no plan for next season in terms of who would be coaching us. We are halfway through the season and Sharp's contract was due to expire, as they have now given the job to Agar they clearly had no plans in place to change the coaching set-up next season (unless Agar was always going to be the man). This is just really poor planning by the board and suggests to me they are re-active rather than pro-active.
I was more than happy for Agar to have the job until the end of the season (once Sharp was shown the door) so I will reserve judgement on his permanent appointment until he has had time to get the team playing how he wants them to.

| If the news of Crocker on the Website and Grapevine is true then the point of whether we can attract top quality players to the club is at the moment blown out the water.
Hope this signing is true this time as he is an excellent aquisition to any side SL or NRL!
Also shows some intent from the board too!!

Now theres a shift in opinion, only two weeks ago you was screaming for Sharps head because you had had enough of his dour rugby taking us backwards.

Am I watching that same team ??? Lee, G Horne, Yeaman, Radford, Wheeldon, Hall, Dale ect.. are all world stars in the making aren't they !
Just because any player happens to come from Hull, it doesn't stop him from being DISTINCTLY AVERAGE !

I don't know I havn't looked in my snow globe today.
I do know however, that we have quite a few kids with quite a bit of talent, and with the right guidance, could be future GB internationals.
That is if we can stop relying on them to play every game for us and win it. But hey, lets jump on backs of them and tell them how rubbish they are, because we all could do so much better.
Your not born world class, with a lot of luck your talents are trained and used to the right effect early on.

Actually, yes it does. However, I considered Warrington to be forward thinking for making some astute decisions and signings, even if those signings aren't paying off at the moment.
Capturing Joey Johns was quite a coup at the time, as was Morely, but if you want to talk about home-grown talent, then yes, it does sound like Warrington.....
Matty Blythe – Wolves Scholarship – England Academy
Andy Bracek – Leigh Miners / Wigan - England Academy
Chris Bridge - Oldham - England Academy
Lee Briers - local - but ok, not young!
Jon Clarke – Wigan - local enough to Warrington
Mike Cooper – local born, England Academy - highly rated
Martin Gleeson – born Wigan
Mark Gleeson – Wolves Acedemy
Ben Harrison – signed from Barrow as a schoolboy – Warrington schools U11 England Academy England Academy
Paul Johnson – Wigan
Lee Mitchell – Warrington academy – England U17
Adrain Morley – Salford Born
Rob Parker Leigh East
Kevin Penny – Wolves Academy – England Academy
Steve Pickersgill – local lad – joining Wolves at aged 14. Warrington Academy, England Academy
Chris Riley – Warrington born – England Academy
Paul Wood – Warrington Academy. England’s international player of the season 05.
All the above are local born players in the Warrington area and/or have come through the ranks at Warrington.
Please don't believe that Hull is the only club norturing their 'home grown talent' .....and that their talent is full of world beaters.

Out of that list you have 7 players they have trained, on sunday Hull had 9 on the park playing.

I'm not saying Hull don't nurture home grown talent. I'm saying don't think that no other clubs do ALSO.....
ie Warrington is forward thinking for norturing home grown talent, coups like capturing the services of Joey Johns and signings such as Morley.
If you don't agree that the Johns signing was an astute marketing and club decision ... before anyone else had thought of it, then that's up to you !

Can't be bothered to trawl through all 20 something pages.
Just after I got the text about Agar, I bumped into a former player (from the early 1980's) who was involved with the original Gateshead set up. having played with Alan Agar, He was happy for Richard that he got the job. He also said, Hull and Wakefield were the only clubs he would ever consider going back to work for in the DOR role.
To put it mildly, it would be the best thing that could happen to Hull FC IF this happend!
