As much as i rate Briscoe, the lad is a winger! Surely we'd be better our highest paid player being in a more central position? What a waste it would be having all that salary cap taken on a guy who only sees the ball once it has gone through umpteen sets of hands?

As for where he goes, good luck to him. He's played his socks off for us for the majority of his contract. I'd also want to test myself at the highest level, whether that is over here in the NRL or with L**ds (well not for this FC Fan) or Wigan. Fans are fanatical about their club, players love the club until they move on.......

The longer is stays quiet the more sure he will have signed for Leeds, the club are just protecting him from the fans who will not be happy with him going there.

If they have given him silly money then good luck to him for going, short working life you need to get what you can.

GH/Leeds dont throw silly money at anyone (the main reason you have Ellis). 5 year deal is the story for Briscoe.

Met his parents in Manchester at the weekend. His Mum said Tom still doesn't know where he'll be playing next year and his Dad said if the original offer was still there he'd sign but it isn't as Hull have obviously used part of it elsewhere.

Ellis himself has said he almost did resign. If people believe the line about wanting a new challenge they are kidding themselves. Ellis took the big contract. Who can fault him. I have a young family. I would have done the same thing. But your statement is correct. Until its a done deal us Leeds fans could be slightly wide of the mark again.

I think thats just about on the money. Both his offer and that to Tickle were very likely withdrawn on 1st May and the money is now being spent elsewhere.

I do know that Briscoe's offer was a big one as big as the Club have ever paid to an existing player. His agent told him to hold out but now his other suiters have probably got wind that we have withdrawn our offer and are likely now reducing theirs. As has been said its Shaun Briscoe all over again and although I admire him as a player and would have loved to retain him, in the end it probably serves him right! Tickles offer elsewhere is however massive and probabaly disproportionate to his value to us as a player anyway so we would have never matched it.

If Tom were to come back and say "Leeds (for example) have offered x amount, i will stay if you match it" do you think we would - if it was less than we offered originally?

Think we have committed it elsewhere myself mate we can't hang on forever we found that with Briscoe and Manu etc we have to move while other players are available,I want him to stay but I fear he aint going to be !

Clearly would depend on what we've spent elsewhere. With the cap you can't just deal with any one offer in isolation they all depend on each other.

out of interest, do you mean as a %ge of the available cap or in general terms. Is Briscoe worth £100k+ a year, possibly, is it wise to give a huge chunk of your available cap to a player who, in all honesty, "finishes" rather than creates on most occasions, I think not.

Is Briscoe in the same bracket of Offiah?? Well, Offiah had as much pace and balance I have seen on an RL player. But Briscoe has the strength and work ethic which Offiah never had.

From what I was made aware of at the end of last season, there are 4 Rhinos player who earn £100k+ (basic pay) and hall is not one of them.

If the basis was similar to that of Hall at Leeds were he is a finisher and not much else then I'd agree, however Briscoe is far far more than that, he wins pentalties for us every single game, he busts tackles, he makes try saving tackles and isn't too bad at scoring them..IMO he's worth 100K
People here are still deciding that TB has done this or that, and that it is 'tuff tittie' as one poster put. Unless you are in the know then it is all conjecture, further, sometimes things just don't work out, we make a decision that turns out not to be the right one for ourselves or those connected to us. That is part of life and frankly as a 23 year old you're in less of a position to be able to judge what is the 'right' thing than you are when you're older.
