| Watching the game back at the moment. Lee Jewitt is a horrible (and not very good) player. Threw 2 forearms straight into Griffin's face when he was on the floor, and I remember him losing his temper later on in the match too. Gonna be a massive liability for Rovers this year if he isn't careful.

| Speaking of fond memories, a fond Easter Monday memory (other than Sid Domic uppercutting Ewan Dowes whilst celebrating a try against Rovers) would be when Rovers got stuffed 84-6 at home against Wigan.
Who have Rovers got tomorrow?...

| Quote ="Mild Rover"But you did say that if you (Hull fans) are still harking back to this in forty years, it would be an indicator of failure over the intervening four decades. My point is whether those years are good or bad (it’ll almost certainly be a mix), fans will rightly hark back to those wins, so I don’t it is a good indicator.'"
I think the extent to which they're referenced are a good indicator for a couple of reasons. Firstly the more the old stuff is referenced as a proportion of reflections, the greater the implication that, given everyone loves success, there's been less of it recently. And secondly as mentioned as silverware memories get further away, there's a smaller proportion of the fanbase that have a genuine personal connection with them.
Quote ="Mild Rover"
That you’re not very interested in your club’s history shouldn’t make me sad - we all take our pleasures in different ways and you’re understandably very happy with recent triumphs. But it does a little - these clubs are such valuable and interesting civic institutions, with so many varied and fascinating stories. As time passes, the passions fade but we get new and, in some ways, more meaningful perspectives. I do wonder if, to some extent, seeing that we’re struggling in the here and now, while you’re flying high, you want to play down the past in an effort to deny us the consolation of brief refuge there. But it won’t work. As I type this, I’m looking at my Dream Scene picture that doesn’t fit with the decor of our house at all, and which contains only one player that I properly remember seeing play, right towards the end of his career. Maybe that is sad too, but since I started taking a real interest again circa 2006 (#bandwagoner), i’ve had a hundred little morsels that have made it worthwhile, and mitigated the misery of Wembley 2015 and the 2016 MPG. Most would mean nothing more to you than your Clint Newton story means to me - but they’re not there to be rhetorical weapons, they’re a shield, an impenetrable comfort blanket.'"
Equally I could counter that you're trying to make history more important, patronisingly more "meaningful", because your club's most successful time is decades ago. My personal connection to Wembley 16 is huge. We had the tale of coming back from our holiday in France (and going back again!) to attend as a family what we expected to be another defeat but couldn't not be there. Just in case. We attended as a family with my brother and watched in horror and then ecstasy as Ben Currie slid towards the line. We called my mum, now 80, from Wembley Way after the game. She is too frail to attend now but has been a fan from being a little girl and could hear Old Faithful ringing out in the background. You can imply I'm heartless from leveraging more emotion from this than having a picture of Kemble above the fireplace, but there it is. I might prefer to watch La La Land with my daughter than On The Town too.
Quote ="Mild Rover"So (and well done if you’ve made it this far, but I know the day is probably dragging with HullKRfans still down), if you prefer to pay little thought to Kemble and Norton anD Whiteley, or to how Hull F.C. emerged from and was shaped by its local community, then that is your loss alone and its extent depends on how much you really do think that history is just so boring.
Reet, can somebody help me down from this pulpit?'"
I don't think I've said it was "so boring". Who was it that once said the game "should be about the here and now and anything else is selling the fans short"?..

They're such grubs. Seen images of Blair giving the Hull fans the finger and Masoe treading on Bowden's hand. Rude and unpleasant. Should have concentrated on some fairly basic maths and getting their numbers right - how hard can it be with a man over?

He lashed out later in the game at Washbrook after he got tackled. You couldn't tell if it was a slap, push or punch because the camera was on a long shot and they never showed any close up replays.
At Magic Weekend we could do with getting Connor running at him/involved in tackling him. Knowing Jake he wouldn't mind taking a punch to the face to get Jewitt red carded.

Neil Hudgell, I'm assuming?
Whoever it was, they were right about that being how to run the team. Building for the future, five year plans and the principles that were meant underpin licensing are fine for running the club, not the team. Despite what SmokeyTA used to try to tell me - never see him and Jamie Peacock together, do you? Hmmm.
In the minutes before checking my Euro Millions numbers, I sometimes reflect, starry-eyed, on how I would run the club as really positive force in the community, reveling in doing the right thing at a grand old institution. And how I would demand the first team be run with a clear-sighted, ruthless (cynical if needs be), opportunistic immediacy that would make Shaun Wane look like an innocent.

| What I didn't like was that after Connor scored his try and he gave a "come on" gesture to the Rovers defence while strolling in, Kendall pulled him to the side and had a word with him about his taunting.
I remember somebody on here mentioning it during a previous game (Warrington maybe) where Connor was winding people up. The ref having a word with him to stop it. But why should he? He isn't breaking any rules of the game, not hurting anybody, and if the opposition are dumb enough to let him get to them then it's their own fault and they need to learn to control their own emotions.
He can't be sent off for laughing at people so what's the point in having a word with him.

| Quote ="Wellsy13"No easy draw like 2005?
We played 5 Super League teams, including that season's champions, the previous season's champions and the cup holders (who went on to win the LLS that season). It was arguably a harder run because of the teams we played and the fact it was an extra game because of the format change.
Round - 2005 opposition - 2016 opposition
4/5 - Wakefield Trinity - Bye
5/6 - Bradford Bulls - St Helens
Quarters - Leigh Centurions - Catalans Dragons
Semis - St Helens - Wigan Warriors
Final - Leeds Rhinos - Warrington Wolves
2005 was harder IMO.'"
I meant that all 3 were won the hard way - none could be considered as one off bits of luck.

To me it is more showboating than taunting, and pretty innocuous. You’d have to have a bit of a thin skinned to see it as provocative. At worst, if I was being a very po-faced, you could say it was a bit immature, but at 23 you maybe still get a pass for that. if he’s trying to cultivate an image as an irritant, he maybe feels it is incumbent on him to do something, and I think that is about the right level - noticeable, but no big deal.
I’ve no particular issue with the ref having a word either though. It’s just one of the subtle nudges we all get as we grow up and it won’t be dismissed as youthful exuberance forever. Without these little social cues, I might not know not how ridiculous i’d look doing a dab at 42, for example.

Manchester United fans have enjoyed enormous success since the 60s, but Best, Law and Charlton are still legends.
Zidane and Cristiano Ranaldo’s successes, and time, haven’t diminished the standing of Alfredo Di Stéfano at Real Madrid.
Kubala was voted Barcelona’s greatest player of the 20th century in 1999, despite despite Cruyff, and their dream team of the 90s.

I’m not diminishing the importance of the likes of Whiteley, for example, achieved. But I never saw him play. My personal emotional connection however is far greater to recent successes which I experienced first hand. I must be unique. Many would say this is a good thing.
