| Quote ="HFC Boy"Opinions as you say do differ . My opinion is we showed more willing to throw the ball about on Sunday than we did under Sharp .
The last try showed that . The amount of times we got rid of the ball at the tackle must have been more than the previous games put together.
I hope Agar will Coach a more expansive style than Sharp`s boring NRL style.'"
We've played alot better than that in terms of attack this season.

| So once the decision to sack Sharp was made what options were there?
1 Appoint Agar on a temp basis to the end of the season
2 Appoint Agar as we have done
3 Approach Folkes , Murray , Rea , Harrison or ...who?
The problem with 1 is that the uncertainty would make it difficult if not impossible to sign players for 2009. The problem with 2 is well documented in that potentially Agar will not have the profile or contacts overseas to persuade players to come to Hull.
The problems with 3 are that Rea and Harrison have failed already. I guess that Warrington and Moran will have already been talking to the other two named (even though Murray said he's retiring) which will have had the effect to push up the ante on both who are after all looking for jobs because their records have been recently poor. Would we want to throw money at any of the available coaches? Would any improve on what we have currently? We need quality players. That's where our money should go. Maybe the saving on Sharps contract will help here. The one thing not in doubt is that if you offer enough you'll get your player.
What makes a good coach? Generally good quality players. Show me a coach who you could put in charge of say Hunslet and without changing the playing staff turn them into title contenders. It doesn't happen.
We probably shouldn't have sacked Sharp but once he wasn't backed with a contract extension a couple of months ago there was little choice. He was the only thing you could change.
At least by acting decisively we now have some certainty which may help when planning and signing for 2009. It may help with contact negotiations for OOC players at the club. It may just have the galvanising effect needed to salvage something from this season, unlikely but it may.
Everyone assumes this a cheap option , well if it is and it turns out not to work then a parting by mutual consent won't cost alot either.
I certainly have doubts along the lines expressed on here but as we well know contracts signed or otherwise don't count for much. Maybe in the circumstances it was really the only option.

| All this flag waving about being young and British is a bit hypocritical when we have let Cooke (jump ship), Briscoe (bad management), Carvell and Wheeldon (better offers) go elsewhere, with rumours of others leaving.
The two salary cap infringements and the Thackray debacle, the lack of training ground equipment renewal, the reduction in medical budget added to the above is nothing but sheer incompetence on a mammoth scale by the board and CEO. I feel we are on a long slippery slope back to the brink of oblivion ironically delivered by the very people that tried to save us.
I dont believe we have any signings up our sleeve or hidden away in the wings, 6 weeks ago KH said that there would be good news in 1 month, we're still waiting when all around clubs are announcing new signings.
Good luck Richard, I will support you in your new role.
Sweet Jesus you're going to need it.

| Yep - good luck Richard!!
I hope there's a pattern emerging here in West Hull (after City sacked their coach and gave the job to their assistant coach!)
A win at Wembley the following year for a West Hull team against The Robins would be just fantastic!!
Another point - some people may see Richard as a cheap option, however, he's been at the club for a good few years now so has an understanding of just how the fans feel (eh Wolfie!) therefore we may feel more involved / informed again now that The Media Shy Sharp has gone.
My only concern - is he able to attract the players we need???

| I don't get this appointment
If Agar is so good to deserve a contract as the First team coach why wasn't he helping Sharpy to motivate,Communicate,Tactics, skills etc when poor Sharp was incharge
If i was a Hull fan i'd want him to fooc right of with Sharpe beacause he didn't help before
And now he's good enough to warrent a 2 and a half year deal STRANGE

Totally agree - in addition we have an assistant coach who has little first grade playing experience and his only management experience is the u21's!!! All this for a "top 6 SL side" - rather odd in my opinion.

| I dont understand how the club can see it reasonable to sack two coaches before the end of there contracts and appoint a someone who was a big part of both regimes.

| It's madness driven by greed on the part of the board. Very short sighted of them. if things don't improve this season under agar then pass sales, merchandise sales, sponsorship and matchday corporates will all go down for next year. The money saved by appointing an unknown will be dwarfed by the amount they'll lose, but maybe being hit in the pocket is the only way they'll realise what needs to be done.
Appointing a new coach is always a risk and the current board have got it wrong on the last 2 occassions by appointing 2 assistant coaches in kear and sharp, neither of whom were good enough. Another couple of years of the club going backwards could set us back for a long time to come. They should have appointed a coach with a proven track record at the highest level

Brown had previously been a manager (Derby County not the equiv. of York City Knights), he was also understudy to an excellent manager in Big Sam (unlike Kear and Sharp) and he also has the experience of his assistant Brian Horton to draw on, who i may add has been a manager on numerous occassions and seen a fair bit (unlike Last) so your comparison is?!?!
