| Quote ="chico's nose"When we were linked to Kimmorley last season I thought he was too old, but after seeing him play several times for the Bulldogs this year I would love to see him here. He really has turned the years back and is in sensational form.
Orford is no spring chicken either, but again his organisational skills are just what we need.
If we sign either of these there will be the raised eye brows about their age, but both are exceptional 7's. The only other option for me would be Finch, but the only advantage he would have over Kimmorley or Orford would be his age. As a player, he is not of the same standard imo.'"
Personally, I think scrum-half is probably the position where genuine quality can extend a career whilst still playing well. Mainly because if they know what they are doing, they shouldn't need to do as much physical work as other positions and thereby protect themselves a bit. The only issue is if there are any injury question marks. Andrew Johns is a great example, if it hadn't been for his neck he still had more than enough brains to keep playing for another 3 or 4 years.

| Why does everyone seem to be desperate for us to land a centre? Imo Whiting has stood up to the mark and I'd be more than happy to see him get the no.3 shirt next season. I think we should be pulling out all the stops to sign Orford and O'Meley, with the additions of Fitzgibbon, Lauaki, and O'Meley we would possilby have the best pack in the league, and with Orford and Horne playing off them, the backs will have a field day. In Raynor and Calderwood we've got two of the fastest wingers in the league, inside them, Yeaman and Whiting who are both very capable centres, add to that Tom Briscoe, and our back line is very strong. So... Hull.FC put your hands in your pockets (tough ask I know) and bring us Matt Orford and Mark O'Meley for 2010.
We can all dream

If Whiting gets a new contract it tells us how much ambition we have, none.

I agree with that in part as whiting has done well . who would we have at full-back though if horney goes back to 6 ?

That's a ridiculous statement Standee. He is one of the most naturally talented players in the club who can play WELL in a number of positions.
We won't build a team around him, but that doesn't mean he is surplus to requirements

Billy Slater would be nice if only
All depends on how Motu does this season, if/when he makes it back on the field.

Top post, Rich Whiting is one of our best players and would be one of the best in the league imo if he had a little bit of speed about him.

Tony. Preferrably I'd have Horney in at full back, coming into the line in attack (as of recent), however I don't think it would be fair to expect him to cover 2 positions week in week out, and I think it it would affect his game also. In an ideal world, I'd like to see us sign a 6 AND a 7 but we all now that's not going to happen.

He's a utility player, hasn't made a position his own, isn't fast enough, do I need to go on?
It's keeping mediocre players that has got us where we are.

Whiting is in no way mediocre, he is a very gifted and skillful player and is not as slow as people make out and having him on the field is bringing the best out of Calderwood too.

I'd say it's keeping [itoo many[/i average players that's been our problem.
Whiting is worth another contract IMO. Every side needs one utility player, and Whiting is a good one. He's also young and British.
There are a number of players ahead of him in the queue to be released.

Thorman
Radford
King
Possibles:
G. Horne
Cusack
Tony
Hall
Thackray
Depends if we recruit better quality of players in the front row and don't renew Tony and Cusack's deals. But I wouldn't be overly upset to see these players leave if they are replaced by better ones.
