All on the day, they are in better form than us,spin of a coin for me.If we won it may affect our middle 8 chances.Just be happy to be back in S/l next season and barring injuries think we'll be fine, but like with you the loss of ellis is massive and someone like kelly out would be a disaster.

| why bother signing a specialist hooker (or even bringing one through) as Radford is just going to go the same way with playing Houghton 80 minutes every game. Just why he thinks this is the best for us when it's clearly been a sticking point in our attack (Amongst others) I'll never know.
If Washbrook ends up spelling Houghton next season then that'd just about put the icing on the cake on Radford's tenure for me.

| I think with the coming reduction in interchanges we're going to see 80 minute hookers become the norm again so we might actually be ahead of the curve on this one.
I have no issue with playing Houghton for 80 minutes he seems to manage fine, the whole "his attack suffers" thing is overblown imo.
I've actually noticed in the past few games that we have the odd period where other players move into dummy half, I assume to give Danny an onfield breather.
Its what happens if and when he gets injured that worries me.

Good points, it is a massive concern if he is to get injured.

| Interesting that one of our better performances this year was at Saints when we had three hookers on the field at one point. We're due back there in the Super 8s, but now only have one

| I'm afraid we'll never go anywhere fast with Danny at 9.
I take absolutely no pleasure in stating that but it's about right.

| Houghton isn't our problem, our lack of class player and skill is our main issue, plus coaching.
If available many of the top clubs would be after Houghton.
Hull fans want the perfect player, but these very rarely exist in SL and as fans we look at weaknesses of players like Shaul and Houghton rather than strengths.
A perfect example is Briscoe who is the best winger in SL, but even when we had him people still criticised him and looked at his faults.

| He's far too influential in the way our team operate.
That's not his fault, incidentally, he's had to carry that burden for quite a lot of years now.
But it makes us weak.

Not sure I share this opinion.
3 thinks to factor in. Firstly, Cas are above is in the table. Secondly, relocate or commute? I know McShane started out at Leeds. I don't know where he lives but I'd imagine Cas (and Wakey) are much closer to where he lives than Hull is and I doubt he would command a large salary to justify the extra journey time to Hull for training and matches. Finally, game time. Houghton will still be considered first choice when fit. If Cas can offer more game time, then it seems the obvious choice.

You have a point there. Houghton is expected to get through a bucketload of tackles and still be able to consistently pass the ball accurately. To me, the inaccuracy of his passing is usually the weight of the throw, and this makes sense to be linked to the amount of punishment/fatigue he will have in his arms. People should have a friend smack them in the arms for 20 minutes and then try and land a ball on a target on the ground 10 yards away 9 times out of 10. I bet they'd be short and long more often than they'd be wide.

One word - Swain.
I think subconsciously we all want another Swain and sadly we aren't going to get one.

Yeah, he unfairly set the bar to a generally unattainable level. It's possibly underappreciated just how much of a freak (in a good sense) he was. But being fair to Houghton, he is actually getting through even more tackles than Swain did, which is staggering to think about, really. Quite a few more, even. The most tackles Swain made in a regular season for us was 907. Houghton has done over 1000 in each of the last 3 years and 4 out of the last 5. He's doing too much work.
