| I said on the 'city should we be concerned thread' that the council would do nowt because they don't have the knowhow, impetus or willing to stand up for what's right, as I said the council would blow a lot of hot air then let it dissapear, I can't see them changing tack now.
The saddest part would be that the council can't see the damage they're doing by not acting, even worse would be they can but still don't give a feck and want the line of least resistance, this is just the start of the slippery slope.

| To be fair to HCC would the people of Hull be happy seeing tens of thousands of pounds being used on legal fees and expensive lawyers, when services across the city are being cut to the bone?

I would. Because the ultimate cost to the city will be the loss of not just Airco, but the KC will become out of bounds as City's ground only (no more community facility (and precious little now, I know)), there will probably be no Hull FC - a massive part of Hull's heritage, not just speaking as a fan - these three things belong to the public (I know Hull FC don't, but we are a community club with massive presence in the city) and amount to a lot more than £50,000.
Another question (being thick again, sorry), if the funds were donated to enable the council to fight the case, would the council legally be able accept the donation?

| Another view, taken from a City forum:
Multi-millionaire Labour donor evicts hundreds, maybe thousands, of local people from a community sports hall to turn it into a Category 2 Football Academy. Labour donor receives nearly half a million quid from the Premier League to help run the Academy. Labour Council owns the sports hall and has a lease that says he can't do it, yet does nothing after making a bit of noise. That will be how the world sees it if it hits the national press.

Yes, rude. It's a discussion forum on which participants share clarification and debate. Could be tricky to grasp, but as Mr Brady isn't a member on here he isn't going to reply. I threw the questions out there to see if anyone else could shed light - just a thought. If people don't know the answers, they don't reply - no biggie.
But to reply in the manner you did was rude and unnecessary, in my book.

This is the sort of thing that would be picked up on by opposition parties during an election campaign.
The council would be damned if the saga was portrayed like this. But are they between a rock and a hard place? As a Labour party donor (he already gave £200K and has pledged £300K more and a further £500K if Labour "loses" financial support from the unions, afaik) I imagine the central Labour party would be putting pressure on the council not to pee him off.
Another question would be what on earth are the "Labour" party doing accepting donations from such an obvious self-seeking conservative snake? This whole situation demonstrates how their position is immediately compromised - what is just and right and would normally be given the backing of the party (the fight for the amateur clubs to retain the Airco) cannot be deployed because the perpetrator is a "Labour" party backer. Ridiculous.
Alan Johnson must be livid. He is looking weak at the worst possible time because he worked with the council and the Premier League to negotiate the new deal. Allam has completely undermined him - he could be a valuable ally.

Brady's official statement:
www.hullcc.gov.uk/portal/page?_p ... essrelease
Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Stephen Brady responds to latest Airco Arena developments - 14/04/2015
Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Stephen Brady said:
=#8000BF
"We are extremely sad and disappointed to learn today that the decision has been made to go ahead with the installation of a 3G pitch at the Airco Arena, despite our stated major concerns about the impact on community users and the fact that we were having ongoing and productive discussions with both the Club and the Premier League about providing an acceptable alternative facility on the nearby hockey pitches.
"Together with the City MPs, we have bent over backwards to support Hull City AFC in its bid to become a Category 2 Training Academy - including promising to expedite any planning or other permissions required to ensure they were able to meet the deadline set by the Premier League, which through our lobbying we also managed to get extended following the meeting between the Club and the Premier League Youth Development Team last Friday, as reported on Saturday. This is despite not being consulted on the Club's plans, including the impacts on the existing community users.
"To our surprise, on Monday, we received a letter from the Club in relation to the hockey pitch proposal which made certain requests of the Council which could not possibly or legally be fulfilled, these were:
a guarantee that the dome pitch would be granted planning consent (this would be a pre-determination and would be unlawful);
a contribution of £425,000 from the Council to the £850,000 cost of providing the dome facility;
the granting of business rates relief, for both the Airco Arena and the KC Stadium, for a period of 18-months (this is illegal).
"On receipt of this letter, we advised the Club immediately that we could not meet these stipulations and why. We also restated our view that there was an alternative acceptable to the Club, the Premier League and which did not impact on community users. We are aware that the Premier League deadline is not until July, by when formal planning consent could be in place.
"As owners of the KC Stadium and the Airco Arena we are now considering all of our options in light of the action that has been taken by the Club today.
"In the meantime, we will continue to do everything in our power to support the existing community clubs to find alternative facilities in the City and our offer of working with the Club, the Premier League and our local MPs to provide the acceptable alternative, through the provision of a dome over the hockey pitches, remains on the table."

Much of the cost would be notional rather than actual as the council has its own legal department so wouldn't have to pay solicitors fees. The main expense would be the cost of instructing external barristers and paying the court fees.

| I know our council are not the best but even the most moderate person can see that Allam is behaving like a child.
He has given over the years to many good causes millions of pounds but this spat with the council is bitter and twisted.

| I'm certainly no legal expert but I'm sure there may be breaches of the Human Rights Act here.
If existing disabled and/or disadvantaged users have been effectively evicted from the Airco then the SMC and by doing nothing, the Council, may find themselves in breach of HRA. Allam needs to realise that, for all its problems, we are still living in a democracy and not the plutocracy that exists in his imagination

| I am going to spit my dummy out now , I honestly hope that hull city are relegated from the premier league and it costs these two despicable individuals a lot of money. The old mans statement of I do it for the the community is the the biggest lie he has ever told. He does what he does for his own benevolence. I hope they go down and do a Wigan or a Fulham, and end up bottom of the championship.

Allams have already said the groups using the Airco aren't his responsibility. He would probably enjoy the Council being declared as in breach of the HRA. As said already, failure by the council to act now IMO just gives a passive mandate for the eviction of Hull FC at a point in the future of Allam's choosing. Brady can be as animated as he likes in interview, but other than trying to accommodate some of the casualties of Allam's acts, nothing is being actioned. At all.

Absolutely, it is still the people who decide who is in charge of doing what the City of London, media moguls and major campaign donors tell them.

He can say what he likes about "his responsibility" bu the fact that such groups have been using the facility over the years simply means that he is responsible, as evidenced by previous performance (i.e. allowing such groups to use Airco).
He cannot legally just turf them out and tell them to find alternatives. He is acting in a highly discriminatory manner and should be brought to book

| I might be missing the point here but why do the council have to do anything to help Allam in his quest to get a category 2 training facility? He seems to be threatening (and carrying out) to change the use of a council owned facility if they don’t provide him with the means to do it elsewhere.
Isn’t this just the same as Tesco’s threatening to turn Costello into a new store if the council don’t ‘assist in’ building them one elsewhere?
I’m pretty sure there 2 rugby clubs, an ice hockey team and countless other smaller sporting enterprises that would love the same assistance and none of those take part in a sport that generates the amounts of cash the football teams do. Surely a business valued at £x00m pounds that is in private hands doesn’t need financial help of any kind.
Being a Rovers fan I always saw the whole Allam thing as a bit of an amusing side show that was fuelling your paranoia. There was no way he could throw you out realistically but it rattled the cages. Now I’m not so sure , the man thinks he can do anything and this latest escapade only strengthens that belief. I can now see FC being next on his hit list, and even as a fan of the ‘enemy’ I would back your lot over him.

The "manipulation" of the financial statement to show a six fold increase in direct costs of hosting RL matches and the increasing of beer / food prices for RL matches (to effectively reduce sales to exaggerate the drop in rugby related income) are clear evidence he want Hull FC out.
