| Miller may or may not ultimately be good enough at this level but to judge that now would be wrong. He has a massive learning curve and is miles from the required finished article but anyone expecting anything different from a reserve grade junior at this stage needs to realign their expectations. My disappointment is not with Miller but with Hull FC's failure to sign Rangi Chase who if nothing else would have provided something entirely different and sold some season passes. I think it's a straight failure of our administrators that we couldn't get him despite a very public attempt whereas Salford could snap him up without issue. To me that's as embarrassing as last night's performance.

In fairness to our administrators, the visa requirements changed between our attempt and Salford's. Chase's personal circumstances may also have been different - sometimes small details make a big difference. Where I [iam[/i disappointed with them is in not keeping a weather eye on Chase and spotting the opportunity that Salford successfully exploited.

The problem when we tried to sign Chase was he wouldn't apply for a new visa (not in really sure why he wouldn't) and the legal dispute between two agents about who exactly represented him.

There were obviously problems but nevertheless we failed to land him and subsequently failed to act again when it was clearly possible to close the deal. When you extend that out to our general recruitment strategy then there's failure off the field as well as on it in the big picture.

there is a thing called a salary cap and given the numbers quoted when we tried signing him do you honestly think we have that amount available to be able to sign him..

I don't know our salary cap position any more than anyone else does apart from Tony Sutton and a few others in the club. Looking at the senior players we have leaving there might have been some room for manoeuvre next season. The signing of Miller would be the most likely reason why we didn't/couldn't pursue Chase again. I think my point was that there always seems to be something that prevents us doing what's required to lift the club to the next level. If we have a full cap and are losing by record scores in play offs whilst at full cap then my point about recruitment/off field performance being below standard is bolstered if anything.

You think so ? We over-did it for sure with Tickle but I guarantee you there'll be multiple plays like it in tonight's game and all the remaining ones this season.

Unfortunately that's the problem with having to work within the confines of a salary cap

Some clubs seem much better at it than us though - looked at Saints recruitment for next year ? They've strengthened with quality players in every area that we needed to IMO. Proof that it can be done well despite having a limit on how much players can be paid.

A bit easier for Saint's to get players in all honesty.

Possibly so - but it's the job of the well paid senior staff at the club to change that. My point is that we haven't been very good in this area - it's not just the coaching/on-field issues that are causing the overall underachievement.
