I'd argue that it's not entirely pointless. It is good prep for the WC. If we want a competitive England team we need competitive opposition to practice against. But it does grate even more when a player gets injured in a game that is not yours.

Menzies looks the fittest player on the field at 39 puts a lot of players to shame.

I know what you mean. But we won't win the WC, so rehearsing to come 2nd or 3rd is rendered relatively unimportant in the context of losing our leader and captain.

We really ought to consider banning our players from taking part in these pointless matches.

Genuinely gutted for Ellis from a rovers fan, just come back from an injury that happened in a warm up (must be a 1/100 chance that that happens) and then comes back and after about 5 games back he gets injured in a near enough pointless England game! He looked in a very bad way and if my lip reading is right when the medic was inspecting it Ellis said "what the feck is that"... Not good signs at all but hope it's not as bad as I think and wish him a speedy recovery!

Tbh it looked like he was struggling to lay down when he was on the field but surely it's easier to lay down with a bad back than stand up

Sinfield had a very good game. It was pretty obvious to anybody with at least an average brain capacity that he was missed in the 2nd half.
