| Whooaa Sammy Sammy, Sammy Sammy Sammy Sammy Lloyd.
I loved it when he wiped his kicking boot up the back of his calf to clean the front of his kicking boot just before he ran at the kick. My boyhood hero was Sammy and a great kicker to boot (pardon the pun). Toss up for second place between Paul Eastwood and Gary Pearce.

Agreed. Todays modern kickers have lovely firm dry conditions, modern boots and a raised kicking tee.
Best kicker I ever saw in rugby league was Frano Botica at Wigan, this guy was just a machine and could kick from anywhere in any conditions.

So did 16 other players that day and fwiw,Swains charge down won it for us.
As for best kicker...Pearce for me.if he was playing now,he would kick 40-20's for fun and its no coincidence that the last time we had a good kicking game was when he was kicking coach.

| Most natural & laid back goal kicker....Geoff 'Sammy' Lloyd, by an absolute street. I mean none of this fannying around lining it up, golf swing stance or pondering over the ball for half an hour like ticks. It was dig hole int ground, ball down, look at ball & posts then whack. My first home game was him knocking over 14 of the beggars against Oldham in '78.
As mentioned, only let down was the '80 final, still rewind the '82 final and start trying to blow the ball in a bit...lol
Garry Pearce deffo the best out of hand kicker for distance and had a high % success rate and for sure Eastwood was very reliable, Ticks probably the best of all. Eastwood took kicks for GB as well at some point and knocked one over from the touchline against the Australians I seem to recall.

| Loking back over the years when I was a kid Bateson (542 in 13icon_cool.gif was really good but we scored a lot of tries in the late 50's, Keegan good too, but for me in the last 50 years John Maloney must have been the most accurate and consistant! 675 goals in 224 appearances and in his day there were alot of low scoring games played on glue pot pitches! Lloyd was a brilliant kicker but many of the games he played in were high scoring affairs with lots of opportunity's. In more recent times Tickle has been superb but its Maloney for me!

He also missed 2 very kickable attempts in the 3rd Test at Old Trafford in 1990 which would have won us the Ashes.
Tickle for me, by some distance

Director of his Dads engineering firm in Dewsbury I think! The kids used to guard it for him whilst he was at training!

When Hull got him i remember asking a player what he was like, the player said "he can kick goals,he can kick goals, and he can kick goals. From this i drew the assumption that the only thing he was good at was kicking goals and his stay at Hull soon ended.

| As for best goalkicking moments.....
Charlie Birdsall from the Threepenny Stand touchline in the final few minutes to draw the Derby in 1979.
Sammy's 2nd kick v Widnes in the 1980 Semi Final (see You Tube as previously referenced)
Danny Brough's kicking in the 2005 Final
Before my time, but I think Colin Hutton kicked a last minute goal from the touchline at Maine Road, in the late 1950's to win us the Championship Final (the Grand Final equivalent).
Finally, I always remember seeing David Marshall (not a great kicker) miss a penalty under the sticks at Craven Park in the mid to late seventies. As the local faithful cheered, imagine our joy as the ball rebounded off the posts for our winger to score under the posts.
