| I drove to Hull and back from Newcastle last night just for the game. I'm glad I did, I thought it was an enthralling game. Both teams tried to throw the ball about. Both teams where well up for it. It was very tense and very closely fought contest the whole way through, and the result could've gone either way right to the death. I thoroughly enjoyed the game as a spectacle.
However, I do wish (not because I am a Hull fan) that Yeamo had managed to sneak over in the last minute to secure victory. This is because all the justified criticism of the referee's performance would not then look like sour grapes. It really is not. Cas showed up well and are deservedly 2nd in the table, they looked dangerous with ball in hand and defended very well. I did not see a gulf in the teams that the league table suggests though and thought Hull deserved something from the game.
John Childs should be embarrassed and ashamed of himself. I have never seen such a complete and utter inept refereeing display in 20+ years of watching rugby league. The awarding of some penalties was baffling and the inconsistencies quite simply shocking. I really do hope that the coach and/or club put in a formal complaint to the RFL or the RFL take it upon themselves to at least review his display. It is pleasing to read that several Castleford fans (on these boards) have also been gracious enough to admit that some of his decisions left them bewildered. They say a good referee is one that ghosts through a game relatively un-noticed. Well it would appear that last night John Childs wanted to be the highlight of the game and he certainly succeeded in that. It is of course impossible to say what the result of the game would have been with a different referee, but I do fell in such a closely fought contest that his influence alone impacted on the result.
Well played to Cas on the result and well done to the fans for making plenty of noise.

| Quote ="The Happy Hooker"As a Cas fan I was dreading this game one the basis that Childs was the referee.
Having watched TGG for 50 years and seeing some 'giants' of the game including some very strong refs. Eric Clay, etc etc, this guy is the pits.
How can it be when you go to a game wondering how the match will pan out,ie will Cas revert back to 'BRADFORD' form, will Hull's recent form continue, yet the focal point ends up as James Childs.
This guy has been fast tracked to Super league by 'the powers that be' S. Cummings.
My son played for the U18's and U21's and had the pleasure (sic) of Mr. Childs abilities(???) and it was obvious then that he had no respect for the players at this level.
This person (I hate to use the term referee) is the Frankenstein monster created by the RL Hieracy BUT we the RL loving public are the one's who are suffering due this guy's total ineptitude.
He sent off Scott Moore at Headingley for an inoccuous challenge which left Matterson seathing ang changed the outcome of the match
He was in charge of whistle feast of a match last year at WR in which he infuriated the fans in the first half, was injured, falled to trap for the second half, substituted by a linesman, and the second half was an absolute pleayre to watch.
If any one has a DVD of the world cup finals notice who was on the touch line, yes you've guessed it.
Guess who came on waving his little flag, you've got it in one
When there are major matches in RL that require a neutral ref gues who can be found on the touch line, JC, (not him)
I'm glad that BOTH coaches are unhappy with this guy and the sooner he is relegated to the championship (or Oz) the better.
A complete and utter to$$ pot'"
Best description of an attention seeking, inept buffoon.
Good luck for the rest of the season, will be at your place later in the season, love going to cas

| Quote ="Staffs FC"I think it was probably the amount of possession that we gave them in penalties that ultimately meant we didn't get enough time near their line in the second half. From the beginning of the second half (wasn't counting the first) we were 7-1 down in penalties at one stage. I know you favour the ill discipline and ineptitude line which is fair enough - what I would say is that had penalties been given for the same offences more evenly we would have had better field position and won the game. A different opinion but that's my take on it.'"
Without seeing replays it's impossible to say, however I'd be willing to bet that if we did then most of his decisions would probably be right. What you would also likely find though is that he wasn't applying the rules consistently which is where a lot of the problems lie. Fact is he was being pedantic and we should have given him no opportunity to ping us time and time again

So a total of 27 pens in the game - not being a stats person what is the usual average for a Super League Game?

Cas did Radford sin binned Cas Spoken to 5 times nobody in the bin the only time you had a man binned is when a Hull man when with him ..With Radford off Cas had advantage for 10 minutes ..This ref lost the respect of the players of both teams I told a mate that an Hull player would be sent off well before it happen ..That was the only way Childs was going to be happy I was just surprised it took him so long

| Watching the Cru game last night and Ganson sin binned a player after 10 mins for a grapple, i thought it was a show of intent to say this is what we are doing now, then every other grapple after that was just disregarded, even Brian Carney mentioned it on the commentary.

Absolutely - its the consistency that is missing here, and we certainly missing from our game. I don't think many people would have any objection to dangerous tackles been clamped down on.

The problem is Childs and Ganson both have an arrogance about them that leads them to apply the new interpretation without any thought about what has gone before. The reason this has been brought in is presumably in response to the complaints from the clubs about certain clubs - Wigan - introducing dangerous techniques which makes it ironic. So we suffer at the hands of Wigan , complain and then suffer an over zealous interpretation after 6 minutes. That will frustrate the players and the ref should understand that bigger picture. Frustrating certainly but then again the club were told about it and being a professional outfit we should have expected it. Childs was appalling but we knew that before the game. We should have dealt with it. I thought the game was as good as we've seen at the KC for ages , actually got the crowd on their feet. Pity Childs spoilt it as it could have been a really good game. Thought probably a draw would have been fair and that Cas were tougher than we've seen for some time. Chase did what we expected him to do and we couldn't stop him but it was Cas's resiliance in defence that won them the game in the end.
