Sends a message to any aspiring young players in Hull at which club you’ll get an opportunity to develop.

Not really surprising is it from Rovers. Why give the opportunity for your own reserve player to play against Wigan for the first team when you can sign three reserve players from other clubs and play them instead.

All jokes, banter and rivalry aside I think this is a poor decision by Rovers as they surely have a squad of their own that is good enough to cope with resting a few players if needed one game without having to bring players in a 2nd time on short term loans?

For me short term loans of 1 or 2 weeks is a tactic that should be stopped as there is no real incentive whatsoever for a club to develop their own players as it just promotes short term fixes.
I don't oppose the use of loan players but feel a loan should be for a minimum of 4 weeks for there to the be any value in the loaning of players.

I wonder if Leigh will do the same.

Academy lads are only 18, so chucking them in numbers against Wigan is unlikely to be good for their development. There’ll be space for a couple, I imagine, and plenty of the squad players in the first 17.

Hull haven’t played an academy-eligible player in a first team game this season either, afaik - it is a big jump to make.

It’s nice that we can enjoy something together - the outrage, I mean.

Maybe loan three players to fulfil your Academy and Reserve fixtures instead?
Reward your own players with a first team spot? From the Reserves, not necessarily from the Academy.

No reasons will convince me that this isn't poor from Rovers, these loan players aren't experienced players.

I'd bet Rovers could rest 10 players and still put out a side made up of first team amd reserve players. If the reserve fixture needs to be postponed as a one off I don't think that's a big deal.

resting players can also backfire on the team that does it, remember the cc sf at Donny v Leeds, they rested virtually their whole staring line up the week before whilst we continued at full strength....what happened? we took them to the cleaners!

There is no need to give reasons for the course of action our coach has taken and trying to convince you of anything would be a complete waste of effort.

Plus that was different as they were season long loans not just for one game.

Plus that was under our previous coaches, which myself and others critised for not playing enough young kids.

As Dave has said they were long term loans which no one had or has issues with and that is totally different to 1 game loan deals. Also as Dave states a number of people were disappointed myself included we didn't play the young lads more, even Hodgson himself admitted that was a mistake.
As Hull FC supporter rugby league fan, if as a club we did short term loans for 1 game instead of using our reserves & academy players I'd be very disappointed in the club.

If teams start doing 1 week loan deals then what is the point of having squads as that's the whole purpose of a 1st team squad thats larger than the 17 that take to the field. This is just another example of why the reserve league should be enforced properly and all SL clubs should have suitable academies.

In all honesty its a bit of a smack in the face for the academy and reserve players at Rovers if they are over looked for one of the loan players and given the outrage when the club were denied an Elite licence you'd think that as a club you'd be able to cover 1 game with players from within the club.
