From Hulls perspective I was thinking more a young half who has missed the first grade spot and has a point to prove.

Back in 2007 Peter Sharp was interested in Jamie Soward at the time a fringe player - what a signing he would have been!

Course it is Berro had a contract for 2011 the club could easily have said no we are not releasing you.

And Swain was 100% right in what he said/observed.

sammut and chase are just a smokescreen. I think we all know the club well enough to now they wouldn't have let a former multiple Oz/SOO player and clive churchill medal winner go without having a top class replacement lined up. I fully expect him to be revealed at the forum on Wednesday and be with the squad at cardiff

Masterstroke makes it sound like an intentional strategy, if we get someone in we'll simply have made the best of a bad situation IMO. We do desperately need a halfback, it's obvious to anyone with a passing interest in RL. I don't think losing Berrigan to get one would ever be a good move in my eyes, but it is one of the few options we seem to have, I admit that. It's more salvaging something from the situation than a positive forward move.

If we paid the kind of money Berrigan was likely on for Sammut or Chase then IMO we'd be overpaying.

I am beginning to feel what we currently have is all we are getting and the club are recouping the majority of the Westerman fee by saving on Berro's wages.
Hopefully I am wrong and we bring in a couple more players.

Care to tell us what other half backs we have in reserve at the club that are better? Or any other half backs that are available (potentially) that aren't non-fed?

Balls, the club have obviously tried signing a couple of people. Just because it hasn't materialised doesn't mean to say we're recouping anything.
If the club can't get the players it wants then it makes sense to keep the money to one side. Or do you want us to panic buy for the sake of it?

They have gone for players they are not too likely to get, Myler was never going to leave Wire. Chase has not even been approached by all accounts and no offers made. Sammut we may have had a chance with, but the player has 2 years of a contract still to run which would mean the likelihood of us signing him were slim.

We have no idea if the offers for players were even remotely realistic, but the fact offers were made sends out the right noises to fans. I am not saying this is what happened but it is definitely a possibility.

Do i want us to panic buy? No of course not, but it was apparent pretty early on last season that we needed decent halfback cover which is ample time to bring somebody in.

Every cloud has a silver lining and all that and you never know, Agars inability to bring in half back cover could be his downfall this season. Fingers crossed!

For the salary we'd have to declare for him (due to him being a coach at the club), it wouldn't be a "cheap" option in regards to the salary cap. Plus he's not played for a few years.

Think you might just be wrong there paul,i would say hes been at the very top of agars list,as the saying goes,if at first you dont suceed then try try again,i dont think arthur bunting got toppo at his first attempt,as a matter of fact he never got him at the 2nd attempt,but guess what.

im not saying we will get him but you never know,just wonder if the club could be very crafty and announce a signing or two before the forum on wednesday cos i reckon they will be expecting a barrage of questions from the fans re half back situation etc,but then again if chase or sammut doesnt materialise then he may want to save the cash and stick with players he has got till the right people become available,i reckon nicklas is a star of the future.
If there isnt any new players coming in for the start of the season ill say one thing it wont of been for the want of trying.

Rumours are that the Roosters are looking to offload Braith Anasta again. Apparently Parramatta have said no to signing him. Different class to Sammut, and would be well worth an enquiry on our part. Fantastic kicking game and a good organiser.

iv seen alot of Nicklas and he has got talent but not seen anything to suggest he's going to be a star , The should be questions raised aswell about the half back situation because yes they have tried to sign players but other clubs have gone out and got players in .Were going to be stuck with Washy as the back up option again or turner .

Like I said I never claim to have insider knowledge on anything, I was just putting a twist on things. Hope you are correct and we get one of Chase or Sammut though. Won't be enough to see us achieve any success but it would be a step in the right direction.
