| If it had to be one of the two you would have to choose Kear over Agar, but the board wouldn't have him back anyways.

| Quote ="cod'ead"As Head Coach or Team Manager? - an unequivocal [size=200NO![/size
As an assistant to a proper coach? - In a heartbeat [size=200YES[/size
John Kear's single biggest failing is not accepting what his role in this game is.
He understands the game better than most people I have ever been in contact with. His attention to detail is second to none, when it comes to identifying a player's strengths & weaknesses. When Bomber brought him here, the first thing he did was hand each our our 1st team squad a dossier detailing which foot they usually stepped from (in a given situation) and other details that even our coaching staff and the players themselves were not aware of.
He is, without doubt, one of the best technical coaches in the game.
What he is not, is a manager, in as much as he cannot manage a full team of players.
When Kear does retire from the game, I have no doubt he will write a book. I will be in the front of the queue to buy that book because it will become a best-seller and should be a bible for any potential future coaches.'"
As a no.2 I would have him back in a heartbeat but he's bigger than that now and he would not go backwards.

I've seen many cases of people being promoted beyond their capabilities, rarely do they develop further to fulfil the demands of the role.
Kear has shown on numerous occasions that Head Coach really is one step too far. Possessing an undoubted ability to get a side to raise their game for one-off matches is not enough. I'd like to think he would realise that but I reckon his ego will get in the way now. I also believe that any head coach he served under would spend more time watching his back too.
ATEOTD it was the Board who promoted him as Bomber's successor, just as it has been the board who have appointed all the subsequent coaches. This proves that they either went for the cheapest available option or that they really are very poor pickers of men.

| Would I rather watch us play incredibly boring rugby and win absolutely nothing, or would I rather watch us play at times interesting rugby, lose a lot, and win the challenge cup? I think anyone that would want Agar over Kear has their head buried deeply in the sand.

If it was a choice of the 2 then Kear would win every day of the week. But he isn't the man for the job now and we need to bring in a proven coach rather than take a punt on someone who may turn into a good coach in x amount of years.

Not much of a choice is it?
On balance I'd rather stick with Agar until we line up a top class successor than replace him with Kear.

What's the point of that question? Agar wasn't even Kear's replacement - we had Sharpe in between.
If you're trying to say that Kear is better than Agar then there's little to choose between them IMO and I'd still rather have neither.

Noticed that and found it rather amusing. Certainly funnier than one of Sharps dry and ever so boring comments

| I would agree with cod'ead 100% on this, he would be a brilliant signing as assistant or in some sort of advisor.
We must remember that JK got the sack not ebcuase of any on field problems, because his results where better then our current one will ever be. JK was paid as an assistant when bomber was in charge and ithe same pay rate continued after he left. He refused to attend and perform some tasks previously allocated to the head coach, this brought him into confronation with some people at the club. Indeed some senior players took exception to his style, one in particular threatened to "walk" and this lead to his sacking.
I too would love to read a book by him as he has been around some amazing times and 2005 is in our history and he did what many of our so called greater coaches could not do.

The fact is the choice would never arise like Kosh points out. However given the choice I would go with Kear as i enjoyed the rugby more under him than under Agar. Yes we had bad games but we also had some crackers as well.
