To be honest, I hope I'm wrong. It looks like he's coming now, so I'll be hoping he keeps out of trouble for 3 years and rips it up on the park.

I doubt they are qualified to handle a alcoholic, this guy has more than a slight drink problem he is an alcoholic who needs specialist help eg GPs, substance abuse nurses, counselling, therapy etc

| My god why does everyone want to slaughter the guy and ake problems they might not arise?
Why not let him get here and let Gentle and Pearson lay down their rules and handle him as they see fit. If he steps out of line i'm sure they will deal with it.
Fans are way to quick to judge and all of a sudden everyone is an expert.

Click on "Using your visa to enter the UK" in the middle of the page then look at the 3rd bullet point.
Clear change of circumstances here, so as I said earlier, I hope it's been mentioned by the club or the player.

Are Gentle and McRae some kind of god like coaches that Seymour will obey and never transgress as all his previous coaches seem to not have not been able to kerb his ways despite the prospect at losing his job.
I was hoping for big things from him thinking he'd got over recent problems but thats obviously just been proven majorly wrong (remember this latest incident wasnt just drunk driving but trying to escape the police too) and it looks like he's simply another head the ball to join the long list of idiots weve had playing for us in recent times.
Personally i no longer want him here.

Actually he did learn from his previous mistakes, got some help, and has been teetotal for a significant period of time. He's had this one incident - as far as we know - and an occasional relapse is not unusual among people attempting to recover from alcoholism. As long as he gets back on the wagon, and has the necessary support and reinforcement while over here, there's no reason at all that he can't stay on it.

Everyone wanted rid of Tansey because he repeatedly broke the disciplinary code [iat our club[/i despite numerous warnings, second chances, and support. Seymour hasn't even got here yet.
Quote ="Sebasteeno"History shows Seymour doesnt learn his lesson and has embarassed himself and his new club before hes even got here with this latest incident. I for one now fully expect him to either not arrive or if he does, embarass Hull FC on at least more than one occasion on his stay here and history shows that there is a very strong chance of this.'"
History shows that he finally recognised he had a problem, got some help, and successfully dealt with it over an extended period. The fact that he's had - as far as we know - a single relapse does not necessarily mean that he's fallen off the wagon for good.

All of which are available to him over here.
He's kicked the habit once and combined it with a successful RL career. He can do it again. And if he fails then we can re-assess the situation and get rid of him if necessary.

| It's a concern on a number of levels.
Firstly when his signing was announced a lot of past misdemeanours at Brisbane and Cronulla were overlooked because he'd got himself on the wagon at the Warriors. He's clearly not on the wagon any more.
Secondly, contrary to what the club says, a change of circumstances like this would affect the visa he's been awarded.
Thirdly, as said, one of the very few good things Agar did manage was to clamp down on the Weir Bar culture in our playing squad, here we seem to be recruiting a player with lots of the problems we previously got rid of people for.
I hope he comes and does well because he's exactly what we need but this doesn't really bode well.

| It's a difficult one. If Seymour dosnt come, we will struggle big time. Remember how good Dykes and Head were when they actually got on the field. On the other hand he has shown throughout his career he can't behave. The club must have thought really hard about this over the last few days

Good first post.....Your 3rd point is interesting I am wondering if the club will employ a substance abuse nurse as part of the training sessions as we appear not to be too bothered about signing players with a bit of form with alcohol related problems ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif)

Most players have medicals we would not sign a player with a long term injury which needed treatment before he kicked a ball.... alcoholism is a disease we are flying a player half way around the world knowing the odds are high that we will have to treat his disease. He did do well in his recovery however that did not last and he is back on the booze clearly his disease is not cured.

| All we can do at this late stage is get him over here and hope that he performs (on and off the pitch). Although it is certainly a concern, he hasn't transgressed at our club (yet) and he deserves his chance.
Even if it were possible or indeed the right thing to do, to start 2012 without him would be ridiculously extreme IMO and would probably de-rail our season before it even began.
Even the incompetent old regime wouldn't give out a high profile, 3 year contract to a recovering alcoholic without including a couple of substantial clauses, would they? ![Shocked icon_eek.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_eek.gif)

| I would have thought the most worrying thing about the court statements is this
'His lawyer, Melanie Coxon, said Seymour had been drinking with friends before "unwisely" deciding to drive home.'
I would have thought it should be he had been unwisely drinking with friends.

You work in this field?
I'm amazed sometimes how alcohol related illness can be written off by people, I don't think they realise how serious it is that people rely on alcohol to get through their lives.
Still, it's risky by the club to go ahead and bring him in, he obviously had problems in the past but if they're starting again it's a potentially huge problem to be taking him on.

| The biggest problem he faces is the psychological addiction..
In simple terms when a smoker quits after the first 4 weeks the physical addiction has been conquered however a lot of people start to smoke again as the psychological addiction has not been conquered, this is the also the case with alcoholism.
The main problem is he allegedly went 2 yrs being clean, however once he had that drink his recovery starts at the beginning again not where he left off (same as a smoker)....Tough times for him ahead, not sure flying half way around the world and leaving the family support unit behind will help him, although as with any-one with such problems I hope he recovers irrelevant of whether he comes to us or not.

I hear what your saying Kosh but do you want your team to go into yet another season with a potential timebomb as scrum half? It could all work out great but on the other hand the wheels could fall off in a major way. Id rather not take the risk personally as it sends out the wrong message to the rest of the team.

Is there much that can be done now?
Would AP be able to just ditch without it being very costly, surely he deserves a chance first.

| What he does in his spare time is his business, if he gets caught drink driving then he deserves what he gets. If his drinking effects the way he trains and plays for Hull FC then sack him. If he plays well for Hull constantly and doesn't bring the clubs name into disrepute then his private life is nothing to do with me. I'm gonna give the guy a chance at Hull before I make any judgement. I just hope that we don't suffer any disappointment and I really hope that we have a good strong halfback leading the lads around the field. Only time will tell.
