Two points...
1. Nobody is writing him off. Questions are being raised as to whether he is the best choice.
2. I, and many others questioning Agar's appointment, were solidly behind Kear when he was promoted from within.

| As a Saints fan I can see the logic behind Agars job.
When he took over briefly after Kiers departure he did a decent job, and against Saints on Sunday he managed to get a gritty performance from the guys. Many teams would merely have folded.
Your current situation is horrendous. You should be hovering around the top of the table, but like Wire are vastly under performing.
Injuries do play a part, but Hulls lack of offensive creativity has been noted, this isnt for lack of talent, but instead lack of systems to correctly exploit that talent.
The most glaring sign is your failure to develop young players to their full potential.
Richard Horne is a classic case of a player who just hasnt fulfilled his rich early promise.
Graham Horne was also a hot junior prospect who just hasnt gone anywhere
Yeaman is another who has just stagnated.
Tommy Lee was hailed as a great prospect, but has merely become a big pudding.
This to me is an indication of Peter Sharps weakness in coaching.
The best coaches dont necessarily win things, but they do improve players.
I dont therefore see how Agar can do a worse job.
He might not be a big name now, however he has the chance to become a big name. Remember everyone has to start somewhere.
With no relegation its not exactly a big gamble.
The 2 and half year contract will enable the club to make a fair assessment of whether the team and players have been taken forward.
For examples of a coach who have developed players, look at how Brian Mcdermott has brought on players like Tony Clubb, Louis McCarthy Scarsbrook and Michael Worrincy at Harlequins.

| I'm disappointed with the appointment.
I'm not bothered how old he is or where he comes from, so I don't see what is so great about having a "young British coach".
Agar will get my support and I desparately hope he proves me and other doubtors wrong, but I just feel this is an appointment that is not one a top club should be making.

| Gone for the cheap option imo.
My main concern is will he be able to bring some top players to Hull ?
You hear all the time from players they went to a certain club because who the coach is.

I would find it hard to disagree with any of that. PS did a good job in handling the youngsters integration into the first team but they have not progressed in the way they should have done.
I am hoping RA is strong enough to be his own man and make tough decisions about player retention and they way in which we play.

Horne suffered from not having a fixed position for much of his career, and then being played at SH when he is an SO. Sharp changed that as soon as he was able, and Horne started to blossom. Who knows what would have happened this season had he not been injured for all bar 2 games?
Hall is still a good prospect, but has been over-played this season due to injuries elsewhere.
Yeaman was never as good as some thought.
Lee may or may not still make the grade. At the moment he is also suffering from being played all over the park and too often due to our injury situation.
Quote ="The Chair Maker"This to me is an indication of Peter Sharps weakness in coaching.

Which shows how little you know about Sharp. The one thing he was hailed as a success for in Oz was his ability to bring through and develop young players.

Nobody is suggesting otherwise, merely that his past suggests certain areas of concern.
I'll be supporting him and the players 100% as usual. Unlike some on here (not you), I don't pick and choose based on personal prejudices.

| Think the majority of Hull fans are feeling, like me, very disappointed and totally underwelmed at this appointment. It is obviously first and foremost the cheapest option that this board have gone for, like they always do. It may prove to be the correct one, only time will tell, but the board should take no credit whatsoever.
To promote from within should only be done when the outgoing coach has been sucessful, continuing with what is already in place. In our case a complete clean sweep is needed. Agar has been shown by the two coaches he has worked under how not to do the job, but how does he know how to do it ?
Steve Folkes has already expressed an interest in the job. With his background and experience the board should have paid him whatever he wanted to do the job. Just watch him go to Warrington now and turn them around.
With premiership football now on offer a big money leader/playmaker must be brought in for next season or season pass sales will be pitiful.

| I truly believe he has been breed for the job for some time now, he admitted openly he didn't want it when Kear went and I think we are all of the opinion Peter Sharp's contract was never going to be renewed.
I think it's great for the guy and having seen first hand the respect the players have for him that has to be a start.
Richard also has his own contacts within the RL world with his England contributions and also what he doesn't know he Dad certainly will.
He was a very prolific and well known in RL circles in the 80's alone.
Give the guy a chance, go British for a change and let's see what he can do.
He has my support fully and has also hopefully shut all the rumour mill up for a while too and that in itself is worth it.
The all seeing and knowing eyes and ears won't know whats hit them now.
Good luck Richard you deserve the chance.

I don't see it as an area for concern, he was working to the rule of another head coach. The only time he got to do things his way we scored a few points and won some games.

| Quote ="The Dentist Wilf"Well we all bemoan the fact that we do not appoint enough young British coaches and here we are running him down before he has had a chance.
For me , there is more to this than that, some soundings must have been taken with the senior players and their views obtained. I think it has been planned for a while myself. Lets face it, for me, it is better than Harrison or Cullen or even Murray. With Richard what you see is what you get and he has studied under a great motivator who could not man manage and a great man manager who could not, apparently motivate. That experience should stand him in good stead! It's a positive for the British game on the franchise front too!
Lets get behind Richard and give him our support!!
Top post Wilf sums it up to a tee for me, As you say there is nobody more Hull Fc than Lasty we could have a great team on our hands there will be an extra bite and will to win in there thats for sure
Good Luck to both
As for an assistant the last time he was in charge and did so well Lasty was the power behind the throne as far as motivation is concerned I would go for him I think although it is a risky one!! The kid is FC through and through though!
The fact is he is now our coach and we should give him at least till the end of this year and a pre season to sort out some of the mess. I think as a club it shows great belief in the British game, although some will no doubt see it as a Cheap and cheerful fix and of course it is both!!!
Lets get behind him on Sunday!!'"

| Well congratulations Rich Agar and i'll support you 100%, however i am seriously underwhelmed and frankly cheesed off! I just hope to god Agar is the right man for us. He has a tall job on his hands though, he needs to introduce an effective kicking game, a game that allows creativity, offloads and support play, a mean defence and some expansive play out wide all of which we haven't seen since McRea left........all of which haven't been evident while Agar has been assistant coach!!!!
Please prove me wrong Rich because as i type this i'm seriously considering renewing my season pass for next year - i'll support the black and whites forever as i have done for the last 30 years but i'm so down at this news!
Furthermore i hope the board pull some major fecking signings off for next year or else Rule and Kath need stringing up for taking two weeks mid season break to Aus for no fecking reason!!!!!
