I agree, but for his own development he'll need some game time next year. So I think he should be our "3rd winger" behind Sharp and Briscoe.

Just like we have for the last few years. Yet people still keep saying that centre/winger/fb are more important and i just cannot see it. We have 3 players who can play at full back to varying degrees of ability (Horne/Tansey/Whiting) We also have a myriad of players who can play centre, on the Wing yes we need someone but it is pointless having a winger who can score tries if we have nobody in the middle who can engineer it.

We don't need a centre as we have 4, Berro, Whiting, Yeaman, Turner. We also have three wingers Briscoe, Sharp and Lyne.

The deal for Calderwood I don't know, it would have top be cheap but halfback is the priority then prop and I would also like a young hooker.

I'd have absolutely no problems with that whatsoever provided the money spent doesn't restrict our search for a halfback.

The worrying thing from Calderwoods point of view is, what if we have needed to bring loanee players in again at some stage during the season, it may get to the stage where we can't afford to play him due to cap restraints.

If Berro is staying as some have said we need another Hooker then as Houghton cant play 80 every week it will kill the poor lad.

Berro already is the top centre. I'm pretty sure you're not going to find an Oz international centre to come in like we already have.

People who think Reece Lyne is anywhere near ready to be in the starting line up on a consistent basis is having a laugh. Look at teams like Saints, Leeds and Wigan. They have players on the wing that are 3rd and 4th choice that are better than Lyne. I don't understand why so many of our fans feel that we should rush academy players into the first team because they have a good few games. Look at Tom Briscoe. He wasn't first choice for the first two seasons here, he was back up. He got his chance through injury, just like academy players should. Playing players on a consistent basis too early can do more damage than good.

Look at Leeds. Donald, Hall and Smith on the wings. Then they've got Watkins and Bush. Who do we have? Briscoe and Sharp, followed by Lyne. I'd definitely keep Calderwood if we can.

As for people calling for another centre. Hello... Berrigan? Australian test centre, anyone?

If we're going to make another signing, it needs to be someone who can play well at half-back and hooker. Someone like Monaghan. Injury in the halves? He can go there. Otherwise, interchange hooker with Houghton. Solves all our problems.

A fit Calderwood outside of Berrigan will score a hatfull of tries IMO.

How often will be see a fit Calders though? Maybe a pay as you play deal is the best option there.

Pay as you play would be the sensible deal from the clubs point of view.

All of this depends on whether Calders gets a better offer elsewhere. I'd have thought about making a cheap offer to Raynor as well until he signed for Bulls. (He's served his time, just put a clause in his contract if anything else should happen). Too late for that now like!

Thats the gamble with Calderwood I suspect there may be a couple of sides waiting for him to get the all clear fitness wise before offering him a contract better then what Hull will do.

TBH I'd like to see him leave. With his recent injury record and the fact we now have 2 other good wingers, any offer to him should be too low for him not to get a better deal elsewhere, otherwise it's not good value to us.

Pay as you play is a nice idea, but the problem I see with that is that we then risk either wasted cap space if he doesn't play that much, or going over it if he does. Or with the live cap it could well mean we get to a certain point in the season and he is no longer available for selection but still entitled to his minimum wage.

I like Calderwood,but his fitness is obviously suspect.He reminds me of Stuart Pearson when he played for Man United,excellent player,but could get injured stepping off the bus.
