| Quote ="BP1"If we want to start looking at specific names, there really does not seem to be too many obvious candidates out there who we would be interested in and/or would be willing to come.
If we start with the current SL coaches; we can rule out Peet, Wellens, McNamara, Peters, Burgess, Lam.
I assume we are not interested in either London or Castleford's coaches, which leaves Rowley, Watson, R. Smith.
Appointing Rohan Smith (even if he somehow agreed) would be bizarre, having just sacked Uncle Tony, and Watson's star has definitely dimmed somewhat over the past couple of years and I doubt his appointment would enthuse the faithful to any great extent.
Shaun Wane and Paul Rowley have both been mooted as potentials, but I don't believe either of them would be remotely interested in the role right now, unless Pearson put big-money on the table to persuade them, which he won't.
We are then down to current championship coaches (Daryl Powell, Sean Long?) or those working as assistants in SL (Danny McGuire, Danny Ward, Martin Gleeson, Richard Marshall?) which I suspect would go down like a lead balloon on here. Then it's a roll of the dice and appointing the current coach at, say, Batley or Dewsbury!!
After that, we are down to the time-honoured road of the current 2nd assistant defence coach at Cronulla who is appointed after coming across well in a 20 minute tele-conference call from down under!!
I did see a few names, currently working in Australia, mentioned above, but would any of them view us as a tempting job for their career paths? and would we trust Pearson to make the right call in this regard anyway, given our recent appointments. I have my doubts that we are attractive enough at this moment to persuade someone of that nature to come onboard with us?
I have an awful feeling that Pearson will continue with TS, partly because he doesn't have the finance to pay his contract up, and partly because he has no idea where to turn to next. I honestly can see us limping on for the foreseeable, simply hoping that somehow the pieces will fall back into place, despite all evidence to the contrary!!
We are in a massive hole, of that there is little doubt right now.'"
Find the money and poach blease from Salford as director of rugby would be the intelligent thing to do, start with a brain inplant at the club then move forward

| Quote ="mwindass"People, me included, thought Pearson wouldn't sack Hodgson. We're a worse team now. Something will have to give eventually.'"
I wonder how much of that was to do with it being the end of the season and the need to start selling passes soon to a despondent fanbase that was in need of a boost, plus the fact that Smith was available.
Whereas now we are still at the start of a season so it's different circumstances. There's no relegation and given our provisional IMG grading, I think it's pretty safe to say that we are in Super League next year. What it probably really depends on right now is if Pearson genuinely believes what he said in pre-season about us contending for the playoffs because we're a long way away from playoff contention based on results so far. If Pearson has genuine belief that the playoffs are achievable then he's probably going to have to act sooner rather than later because, as you say, something will have to give eventually.
But if he was just blowing smoke to boost pass sales then he will probably give Smith time to turn things around and see where we are as the season progresses.

People tend to gloss over a lot of Radders tenure because of the cup victories. The years prior to that were pretty woeful and so was 18/19 and the start of 20. Although he was dealt a poor hand in 18 due to that injury crisis.

I’d argue 2016-2019 probably still better sides than any of those coaches ever had. We had an unreal side and only managed to win a cup that’s realistically a lottery (although we did do it with the worst draws possible)

16/17 definitely the strongest sides we have had in SL since 05/06. I always thought when I saw that 16 squad assembled in particular that something special was on the cards for us. 18 is difficult to judge as we were decimated by injury but it was essentially the same squad as 16/17 and I think we were competing the first half of that season before it all caught up with us. Then in 19 it looked like injuries and age had taken their toll on a few.
Quote ="HU8HFC"It's criminal the 16/17 squads didn't at least get to a Grand Final in my view.'"
Agreed. 16 was probably the best chance but then again maybe it was 17 when they had the previous years experience under their belt and should have kicked on.

| Pretty grim reading on here, but sadly all too true !
That did look like a not trying show on Saturday, no line speed, woeful tackle technique, rubbish kicking, no attacking shape ...............
It is clear now that the squad rebuild aimed to destroy the 'cancer' in the club has failed. Really feel for DH, sure he is on a much reduced salary this year, the plan was supposedly to use him sparingly before moving him into coaching ? BUT we didn't sign the players to enable that so he gets flogged to death one more season !!
Hoped the replacements would be improvements or at least similar to those leaving, BUT Tindall for Swift ? Pele for Satae ? Brown for Clifford ? Ese Ese & Ashworth look okay but the rest are just downgrades.
Money clearly the issue, not sure changing the coach will help ?
All part of the despair of being an FC fan.

| Quote ="Dave K."Think Smith has the next two games and has to win one of them, but I don't think we will, I think we will have a battling defeat next week, fans happy with the effort etc (which is getting really boring), then battered in the derby the week after.
Think Pearson has 3 choices,
Backs Smith, gives him some money to bring players in (pay off Carlos, brings in a 7) and tries to sign a domestic centre.
Sacks Smith and brings in someone like Wane, give him 2 years to sort out the culture, but task him with finding a replacement like he did at Wigan with Peat.
He puts the club up for sale.
If he doesn't do one of these things, think we are in big trouble next year, pass sales down, we will start to lose the like of Staveley and Martin, constant decline and could see the club heading the way of Bradford.
I've defended Pearson and he has gone some very good things, but he has just about lost all of the good will.'"
The fact that Pearson hasnt sacked Smith this morning shows what a weak position he is actually in.
Little point in giving Smith two more games which will prove nothing.
The club is in a very deep hole and Pearson knows it.
His options are do i try and galvanize the fans by taking action and finding the money to pay Tinkering Tony and his crew off or do run with the current state of affairs knowing the club will not be relegated and fans money is in the bank.
Seems to me his financial restrictions will steer him to make the wrong choice again

| Hard to believe it was only a few months ago AP was telling us that brighter and prosperous days were ahead once the Covid Loan was paid. Any news on that by the way? Quite a substantial matter for the club and yet complete silence, should it not be paid by now? Early 2024 was his words, we are now nearing April. Its almost feels as if he's lied to us...again.

| With no chance of us been relegated this season Its probably why we have skimped on spending any real cash on players .
AP has seen it as an opportunity to recoup some cash from the previous seasons losses .

Interesting post !
How many have gone on to have successful
Careers after Hull FC ?
Brian Smith did !!
Seems we have only ever appointed lemons
Since 1991
That’s 33 years of mediocrity
I like Justin Morgan but feel he will be past it
Now wherever he is
Tony is a ‘ dead man walking’ - he’s utterly finished
This will only get worse before he leaves
How will he leave ???
Surely Stan goes with him and Grix gets a chance
It simply can’t get any worse and this time
That’s a truism
Until London I don’t know where the next chance
Of a win is as the team look finished mentally

| Adam isn’t a wealthy man
He runs a business year to year and
has been affected by 2 bad years of covid
Like a farmer with drought
His hands are tied and he’s doing a good job keeping the club afloat
He’s not a great man manager as not one coach has performed well with Adam as their manager
Imagine if Hull FC were a big company on the stock market !!
Would Adam still be the Chairman ?
100% he’d have gone within 2 years as he can’t manage his staff
But he can manage the money and he’s done a great job to keep us in business and have a reasonable side on the pitch
I always blame the Coach for shoite results
Always Always
Brian Smith worked miracles with bang average players
Paul Rowley at Salford another example
Justin Holbrook at Saints was a genius it seems
So good luck to our Finance Director Adam and all the best to Tony in his well deserved retirement

justin morgan is the assistant to andrew webster at NZ Warriors who had one of their best seasons last year getting to the semis, got pipped by the better broncos side in the second half
edit* himself and richard agar were in the camp with agar being the main assistant, although its not showing he's in the setup this year

I agree.... Smith, Gene & Davidson, cant afford to be sacked. hardly surprising ,considering...
Head Physio- Gone.
Head Strength & Conditioning - Gone
Both not replaced.
If both of the above aint replaced, Is there any wonder, why our players are either fatigued, or injured.
Any coach would struggle with a reduction in key areas.
Even Salford with their financial woes, have more backroom staff than we have...

| The only people that can make a difference are the players that take to the field. This is their occupation and this is their time.
There's no coach in the World that prepares their team to go and play like that team did at the weekend.
The players are the ones that need to be ridiculed and roasted, and extremely harshly, and not as individuals but as a team.
They need to be roasted to the point of embarrassment and humiliation.
Maybe then they'll see that they're playing for an important badge on their chest.
