Yes, it does seem to be in some peoples psyche to criticise, whatever the situation. To me, you either support the club and what they're trying to achieve, or you don't. In which case you'd be better off elsewhere.

As paying customers people are perfectly entitled to have an opinion, criticise or praise the product they are paying to see. Some do, some do not and others sit on the fence. There does seem a fair amount of whingers on these boards but they represent a small percentage of the 9000 or so season ticket holders and the 2000-3000 other weekly fans.

We have not been a great, all conquering team for 30 years. We are not a poor team either, there are only 5 better teams in the whole country according to the end of season tables. Some people would do well to remember that. We are striving to become better and we have a chairman that definitely wants us to be better and is willing to try and make it so. If that is with Peter Gentle then so be it, if not then ok that is fine with me too.

We are the Liverpool of the Super League. We have not won the main prize for a very long time, we have a large passionate support, we pop up every now and then with a final appearance and/or a trophy. We can beat ANY team on our day but we are far too inconsistent and drop silly points and like Liverpool I think we are heading in the right direction!!!

True. I was underwhelmed by the signings of McGoldrick and Aspinwall but they proved me wrong.

Couldn't agree more. My point was that some people only ever criticise and never praise. Genuine criticism is welcomed when its due, however to do nothing but moan has a detrimental effect and achieves nothing.

There have been some outstanding moments this season, some reasonable performances but ultimately defeats where you just shrug your shoulders and accept the better team won, and some terrible, really disappointing times too. It's human nature to always remember the bad times ahead of the good. Too many people have the 'glass half empty' outlook on things.

But back on topic. I dont think Peter gentle or Adam Pearson have signed Jordan Thompson expecting him to win games on his own with breath taking performances next season. They have maybe seen potential and are willing to let the kid develop for a couple of years and see what happens.

I'm all for people having an opinion, but have one when its needed. To write somebody off before they get here is just plain wrong. People say they are underwelmed but who were they expecting ?

This signing is purely one for the future and lots of people say we should build a team for the future like Wigan and Leeds do. They are sick of signing ageing players ect. So I find it bizarre that when the club sign young players in the hope of one day them beccomming full internationals everyone then bags the club. JT may cut it and he may not but he is coming here with the hunger to succeed and time will only tell if he is good enough. He certainly isn't Coming here for the pay packet as others have in the past. Lets get behind him and we could well have a star on our hands.

I find it interesting that people are saying that no one should have a negative view of the signing because they haven't seen him play for Hull yet. Does this mean that we are only able to form an opinion of the abilities of a player if he plays for our club?

Interestingly it seems that he hasn't yet got his visa sorted. Apparently the deal is dependent on this happening and if it doesn't then he won't be joining Salford.

No it doesn't. But as others have said its no good judging players until they wear our shirt and play in our team. I'm sure you, like the rest of us, weren't over the moon when we signed Aspinwall and Goldie and I think its generally agreed that they turned out to be good additions. Lets hope that our new signings are the same.

I think this signing could turn out ok , I just think we need 1 maybe 2 top quality signings to go with this and people wouldn't be moaning . We can't sign top names all the time , not many sl teams do now . Just think at times we need more then players for the future all the time . But I guess if the quality or the top players aren't there , were stuck with these type of signings .

I think so, players react differently to coaches and different gameplans. How many players have you seen be dire at one club then be great at the next and vice versa. Its for me all about finding a players strength, look at Cas under Millward then Powell.

McGoldrick was good for is but dire everywhere else. He hasn't played with our squad so it could suit him and it may not.

Azza was almost finished a few years back but found a new lease of life under different coaches, you never know how a player will be till you actually see it in practise. I thought Manu would be devasting at saints but doesn't look the same player we had.

Arundel and Westerman are good enough IMO. Watts has the ability but question mark over application. Galea is gone. Mika would be a poor signing. Johnson has a great heart but is too small. Crookes, if he stays fit, [icould[/i be good enough. Jury's out IMO.

I have never seen a player be 'dire' at one club and then 'great' at another. It's true that players will respond differently to different clubs and coaches, but not to the extent that a 'dire' player becomes 'great' or vice versa. It is perfectly possible to form a judgement based on having seen a player play for a club other than your own.



No. He was better than many thought he would be, but was still only a run of the mill utility player. It says much about our half back predicament over the last few years that he was so well thought of.
