What gets me about the set leading to there drop goal is that we should have known it was coming. Firstly they started to go wide the first couple of tackles. When they did that, i would have liked the middle group of defenders to shoot out of the line, to stop them getting central and keeping them out wide, thus reducing the chance of an "easy" attempt - kind of an opposite to the "umbrella" defence

I see what your saying, and it's one of those things we'll never know. I just thought that after they kept coming back, Briscoe going in could/would have finally been the moment we broke their resolve and they'd start to think it wasn't to be. On the contrary, the fact that we bombed it gave them a further lift IMO.

Yup. Our completion rate must have been pathetically low, we had to overwork in defence because of it which lead to fatigue, factoring that with Agar not using his subs particularly well etc all leads to a poor performance. The players were knackered, although to be fair they were making errors from minute 1 so fatigue cant be attributed to our performance too much in the 1st half for me. (and we were winning at HT)

Just think overall it was a game to learn from, we could have still won and we played bad. Whats that say about our resilience for example.

He's the best defensive HB in the league imo.

That's what I thought was the worst part too. It had to be coming, so we should have made sure our players with the most energy/pace left were in the right place to chase it down.

I believe that had we gone 12 points ahead we would have won the game. Castleford would have had to score 3 times to WIN the game and that makes a difference IMO. Maybe justified the decision to run rather then take the 2 as well!

We just couldnt kill the game and Cas were always kept within striking difference and played that way.

Also Horne has kicked plenty of drop goals before to justify putting himself in that position...rubbish effort though.

Whilst I think he's made more errors this year in defence than normal I put it down to him having been out for a long time and needing to get back up to speed. Generally he's been outstanding in defence for a HB during his career.

Theres no doubting he hasn't been at his best and like you say I think this is because he was out for so long. But even still the way he is defending now which is not like his usual best. I stil think he is better than most in the league.

I'd take Cullen's words with a pinch of salt TBH. I don't think a coach who's side consistently conceded over 700 points a season in SL is in any position to comment on the defensive aspect of the game.

We can't really judge him, it's not as if anyone has enjoyed success at Wire for some time, he just spouts a load of guff!

Maybe. We do still seem to have plenty of mental lapses though where we struggle to kill teams off or concede silly points. We look sharper in attack than all last season put together but need to stay switched on for the full 80.

Horne has consistently missed lots of tackles. He probably makes more than any other 1/2 back in SL so he's bound to miss a % of them
