No you didn't imagine it, we did lose.
I was stood at the Gordan street end for that game (first 5 figure gate we had for a fair while). The noise was ok but i think it would be a bit odd if it wasn't for a game against our nearest rivals (at the time) in teh 1/4 of the cup.
What do you remember of the previous or following games? Apparently the Boulevards atmosphere was at fever pitch even for Colts games
The point being these games were few and far between, it was the exception to the norm.

| The atmosphere at the KC has been brilliant for certain games, someone mentioned the Bradford grand final eliminator as the best they have experienced and other than a Final I would probably agree. However, our dire style of rugby over the last few years has led to a general boredom factor setting in which has made it hard to generate any sort of sustained noise. Away games are different because everyone stands together and the people who go to away games are the die-hards who also enjoy the trip as much as the game.
The Boulevard, like the KC, had some brilliant atmospheres but it also had its poor ones. The KC itself does not stop a good atmosphere being generated and if we start playing some attractive/exciting rugby the noise will be there.

| Whilst we're on the subject of the Boulevard. Does anyone recall a family who used to bring a lad in bed with drips and oxygen bottles and numerous medical devices attached to the bed? I used to think it was the strangest sight I've ever seen at a sports venue!

| Quote ="Mild mannered Janitor"you need to read ther early pages of this thread again.
I disagreed with the view that some seem to have that the atmosphere at the KC is worse than that of the Boulevard. The basis of this is that the mjority who support this view cannot actually back it up as most are still upset we left the Boulevard and think its the be all and end all.
As has been pointed out, in its pomp (1979 - 1985) the Boulevard was an intimidating venue for visiting teams due to the noise generated by the vast majority of the ground, especially the 3d.
After the Bradfrod fire, (which saw the 3d capacity more than halved) attendances were on teh slide and the atmosphere was far less impressive, the odd game the exception.
After Hillsborough, the decision came to knock down 2/3 of the 3d for seats. basically the intimidating atmosphere was lost from that point forward, give or take the odd big game.
Someone mentioned a try scored by Chico Jackson against Batley in 1996, even referring to a video created a great atmosphere. That arguement is somewhat compromised as it was against a different team on a different season. Even the quote of "Tomlinson threw the pass" is somewhat odd as Glen Tomlinson played for Batley AFTER he has finished with us in 1998. So in some eyes the scoring of a try is the atmosphere
Quoting names like Edwards, Davies etc. They are too professional to come out in the public and say the reason they disliked playing at The Boulevard was the venomus hate ans spittal which went there way as they were taking the field
The FACT remains, that in the last 6-7 years of the Boulevard (attedances were rubbish with the execption of a handful of games), the atmosphere was poor. If you were one of the fortunately few in the 3d standing it might cloud your judgement, but beleive me when I say, the vast majority of the ground hardly knew you had started any singing.
Its a little like the myth the rovers fans would like everyone to beleive that craven park is "rocking". Having has the mis-fortune to go there 3 times in the last 2 season, you can hardly hear them in the Zeebrugge end.
Its not having a go at our past, its just being realistic about, what ended up being an appauling sports stadium.'"
Although there is plenty of this I interpret to be nonsense, I can only really be bothered to point out that Tomlinson played for Batley well before he played for us, or Bradford. He certainly played for Batley against us at the Boulevard, I can only assume you stayed at home for those fixtures.

Used to lay at the corner of Airlie St and 3d's, i used to cringe when one of my lads kicked their ball and it hit his bed, ooops
As for this thread, how come it has turned into a which ground is best as this is not what the actual 1st post was about, and unless i've missed it the original poster hasn't commented since and is sat reading some of the comments and is laughing his cock off at some of the muppets on here and the arguements that have ensued, as this is how all of these threads end up, and generally deteriorates into who's the best fan and who's been going the longest.
My answer, I prefer the Boulevard atmos over the KC anyday!

| I dont get the fascination with the boulevard. Ive been watching hull since 1985. The KC is the best rugby league stadium in the country. If we start playing attractive rugby (as has been stated) then the atmosphere follows. As someone has also stated, the last 4-5 years at the boulevard were dire with very little atmosphere at all. The move to the KC stadium is more than just about facilities, Its allowed the club to grasp marketing opportunities that would never have materialised if we had stayed there, and that would quickly dissapear if we moved back. Its an old delapidated stadium, which has an awful lot of history, but a move back there would be taking the club back a decade.

| hulls current crowd average wouldnt even fit in the boulevarde, and what about the derby games that get 24,000 at the KC.
having been to the KC i was jealous of that ground, and so would most other fans of RL clubs in england.
you guys are so lucky the council was able to build a new ground unlike wakefield for example.
Hull FC can get their crowds up to 20,000 one day as the team improves and i imagine the atmosphere would be brilliant

I'd be interested to hear where Radders thinks the money would come from for a redevelopment of the Boulevard. Not to mention the space and planning permission to convert it into a stadium of sufficient size with decent access.

| As much as I would love to see Hull FC play at the Boulevard just that one last time, it would need serious re-development even to meet Craven Park's standards...which is saying something!
I dont see the problem with a 25 or a 35,000 stadium. Yeah the atmopshere will be drained some what but there's nothing worse then standing in the pouring rain.
The only major issue I have with the KC at the moment is the fact you cannot drink your beer on the terraces! You wait 10 mins at half time in the queue and then have to drink it within a couple of seconds, otherwise you miss the second half. I cant think of any other ground which has this same ban, its ridiculous!

The beer issue is true. The ban is ridiculous and must lose the SMC loads. They also employ half witted bar staff that take eons to perform the most simple tasks. When you eventually get your pint, it tastes like washing up liquid.
I would be quite happy with KC if the ban was removed and a section of the ground was reserved for standing. I will prefer Boulevard until we can fill the KC and hear a unified 'Old Faithful' drown out the noise of the KR mob.

I smell a petition coming on!
We need to get rid of the ban...even more so now that home games are played on a friday evenings at 8:00pm, the ideal time to have a pint.
That is one ban that needs to be lifted asap! And as you mentioned about the half-witted staff, jesus they're all imported by Zimbabwe or something....they dont have a fecking clue!

Lift the ban on drinking beer on the terraces at KC Stadium
Quote This is one problem that has affected many Hull FC fans during the move to KC Stadium in 2003. Every other ground in the UK allows its supporters home and away to enjoy a nice pint of lager or bitter whilst watching their favourite rugby league or football side.
At the KC Stadium however, they expect you to wait in a 10 minute queue, get served by a half-witted fool and then drink the alcholic drink in under a minute, otherwise you will miss the first or second half of the sporting match.
This is not only losing the SMC money but it is really annoying the fans, both Hull FC and Hull City.
All of the alcholic drinks are sold in a plastic holder so injury could never be caused to anybody other then getting wet, should the alcholic drink spill or tip. Spectactors are however allowed to bring fizzy drinks onto the terraces and if spilt, would cause the person/s to get wet in the exact same way. They are also allowed to drink tea and coffee which if spilt, really COULD injury somebody!
Finally, since the introduction to all Friday night home games for Hull FC fixtures in 2009, I find it appropriate that the majority of fans will want to enjoy a nice cold beverage at 8:00PM, before they head off into the town centre and/or down Anlaby Park into the local pubs.
This ban is absolutely ridiculous and the only people that will dis-agree with me on this matter are re-covering alcholics and just generally people who dont like beer.
Yours,
Nemesis FC - Off RLFANS.com'"
