| Quote ="oooh Gravy!"I'm with Jake. Unless I'm missing something, I don't see what the SMC has to do with away/neutral games. It's 2019, an online option should be standard. If we had this facility for home games too we might get more than 4k for a home cup match.'"
You're missing quite a lot by the looks of it.
Online tickets for cup home games have been available this season (with the option of using your membership card for entry rather than having the ticket printed/posted to you).
Away/neutral games need the club membership details to offer discounts like the ones for the semi final.
That means the club either:-
(a) provides Bolton (or whoever) with all the members information and you buy directly from Bolton (or whoever) - not a good idea, data protection and all that. Plus you'll need a mechanism to identify who you really are when you try to buy the tickets from Bolton (or whoever).
I don't see Saints, Warrington or Halifax using this option.
(b) Bolton (or whoever) provides the SMC with a database of the allocated tickets (easy to do), and the SMC does the rest. This can be details of the seating plan or simply numbers of tickets per block, which loses the option of selecting specific seats but simplifies things even more.
I honestly can't believe the club would not chose option (b) unless the SMC were making it too difficult, it's not as if they haven't done it before. eg no pay on the gate, excessive surcharges for ticket purchases.

(c) the club invest in their own ticketing system (as they know they can't integrate anything with the SMC's) and then they can implement the same solution warrington have where you can pick your individual seats at an away (neutral) ground
I'm sure the SMC would do (b) but as it's above and beyond what we have in our contract with them (The one pearson was involved in setting up if I remember rightly) they want paying and we won't pay. It's like the season pass renewal which used to be simple through the ticketing office but now means dealing with a paper based system in the club shop.
This is 2019, not 1979. We're all used to ordering things at the click of a button and whilst us die hards may put up with a 2 hour wait on the phone or a 90 minute queue in the rain, casual or potential new supporters won't. A sporting club isn't like a normal business but if you had to queue in ASDA for 90 minutes to get served you would be buying your shopping elsewhere. It's a simple (albeit with some cost) thing for the club to put right and is something we've had to put up with for years now.

So you're advocating investing in 2 ticketing systems, each with (identical) membership details and also secure (but separate) authentication and payment systems.
I can't see the point, for 1 or 2 games a season.
When Mr Allam has gone, hopefully ticketing issues will be a thing of the past.
Do city allow online purchase for away league matches, because if they do then there's the answer, because we're using the "hulltigers" ticketing system.

No, I'm advocating investing in 1 ticketing system as the one we rent from the SMC clearly doesn't meet muster. championship sides have them so the cost won;t be massive as I've already said
As the allams want a ridiculous amount of money for city, I don't think they'll be going anywhere any time soon

And? We clearly have no online sales for matches away from the KCOM. Maybe you can start a petition to demand allam gives us access? If not, maybe we can continue to limp along with 3rd tier teams locked in the 20th century

| Do get the technical issues & understand clubs unwillingness to invest for one or two games a season.
BUT not too much to ask for an efficient phone system that at least gives ur queue location, or perhaps taking on half a dozen temporary staff for such occasions ?

To be fair al283, once you got into the sales office, they had five or six staff on hand, they were most helpful efficient, and patient.

Quote ="pmarrow"https://hullfcshop.com/collections/tickets'" Well I've never noticed that before, away tickets sold online from the shop. Collect or posted, can't be bad.
Pity the link in "Up Next: Castleford Tigers (A)" www.hullfc.com/news/2019-06-08-u ... d-tigers-a
on the club website doesn't point to the right place, but to tickets for home games.
You need an account with the club shop, there are no membership details, so there would be no discounts available for the semi if they were being sold now.

My hubby picked our tickets up yesterday afternoon; James Clark was there talking to anyone that wanted, so I'm sure anyone with questions or constructive suggestions on alternative ticketing arrangements had the opportunity to share these with him.

So the smc has the option for away matches, meaning we also have the option but won't pay for it.
And what am I going to do about it? Should I maybe develop them an online ticketing system or maybe pay someone else to do it for them?

Maybe send an articulate and polite email to James Clark querying the current position and making a coherent alternative proposal. You've spent way more time already on here criticising the club to those who don't manage ticketing arrangements than this would take so could potentially be a quick win for all concerned.

If he needs me to send him an email in order to know it's a problem then there's no point sending an email anyway, however the club are well aware of the issue but wont pay more to the smc than they have to as were paying through the nose for what we get.
Interestingly I was reading about Coventry city who wont be playing in Coventry next year as they have fallen out with the rugby team who now own the stadium. It said they had only been paying £100k a year rent plus contributing something towards the costs of upkeep but significantly less than the £600k we pay and they play almost twice as many games

From your chat with ccs I'm not sure we have 100% clarity on what restrictions there are and whether the club have done a cost benefit analysis. Just suggesting this as a route to bottoming the issue out.

You could always send them a pie chart but to be honest if the people running a £3m+ turnover business cant work it out for themselves then they're never going to listen to someone else telling them about it. We all know it's down to strict cost control and they're pretty confident the fanbase will put up with it so don't do anything. My view is it's short termism. The easier you make it for your customers to deal with you the more they will. I can pretty much guarantee that if people could still walk up and pay cash at the turnstiles then our crowds would be higher. If it were easier to buy tickets more would be sold

I just don't see why you wouldn't spend 5 minutes composing a concise email to James Clark just to confirm. You're making a lot of assumptions about the SMC framework, budget capacity and sales elasticity but you don't have the data the club has on either. You don't know for sure what response you would get and there's a chance you'd be enlightened for less effort than continued supposition on this thread. Just a thought.

I've sent stuff through in the past and all you get is generic waffle back so won't waste my time but thanks for the suggestion. If james clarke can't work out that it's unacceptable to have people stood outside in all weathers for 3 hours queuing up for tickets for a rugby semi final, when supporters of the other 3 semi finalists can order from the comfort of their armchairs then he shouldn't be in the position he's in.
Now I know you see yourself as the unofficial guardian of the club's reputation but you know I'm right and I know you won't admit it on here. Do you still get a free pass?
