| It's all getting a bit O/T now, Whiting, will he be gone after 2010? Not sure he has a true position but wouldn't mind seeing something like -
11. Fitzgibbon
12. Whiting
13. Washbrook
With Manu and tickle/burnett as backup also lauaki backing up 2nd row/ prop.

Well we'll have to disagree there. I don't think that Whiting is a superstar by any means, but he's certainly not just 'average' IMO.

Best not to in my experience.
Quote ="east hull FC fan"There maybe a reason why he hasn't been given that chance by several coaches!'"
The main reason being his utility value when dealing with our numerous injuries.
Quote ="east hull FC fan"Based on washy's skill set being better than Hornes, also don't think Horne will ever get back to the way he was.'"
Can't say I agree with the first statement. The second may well be true, but he deserves the chance to prove it one way or the other.

| Quote ="djcXIII"I dont recall many centres making 50 tackles a game but I do recall someone bottling up Vainikolo when he was at his peak, no mean feat in my book. Washy does do a lot of work in all aspects, I just think RW's work has more quality about it and I firmly believe if we saw parity in game time then stats probably wouldn't be much different'"
the 50 tackles stat comes from Washy playing 13. I'm lead to believe that's where Whiting sees himself too, he doesnt offer that kind of defensive work ethic.

I'm convinced that Agar will go for the option of playing Fitz at 13. I think that will waste our best option at 13 which would be Washy but guess we'll see game 1.

I'd have Whiting nowhere near the back row.

If both impact players are on the bench it means one will see less time on the pitch, but i suppose if that one is Moa it might work. I think we might be a man short in the front row this year.

and its a made up one
on average id say its 25-30
edit ; his SL career avg is 25.43
for interest Whitings is 16.32, played in wider positions and teams not having to defend as much, id easily say he could manage another 8 or 9 per game

First season was 2004 so good few years yet. Yeaman will be closest (2002 I think his debut was) and isn't Radford hoping to get one ?

Players can apply for a testimonial after 300 first team games regardless of number of clubs, IIRC.
You are right though, longest servers are Horne (1999), Yeaman (2001), Dowes (2003) then Richard Whiting (2004).

Over his two spells at the club maybe ? Not sure how long that is but I thought I heard he was after a testimonial. Yeah, Dowes will be after them two.

From my understanding that is correct, only one per season, and it's ten years at a club, not a number of games? (not sure if those years have to be consecutive??)

Although Keith Senior was granted a mini testimonial recently, and he's not been at Leeds for 10 years.

Spot on! Though try and get it through the impervious skull of 'Mr Mansfield'
who's obviously had it in for Whiting since he dropped a gooly and could have ended up paying dearly for it. Know what I mean?????????

| Quote ="Staffs FC"Agree with you. And Whiting is a decent utility man who has played a good number of games and does have a decent footballing brain. Like it or not his main strength is his utility value and I'm glad we kept him and released our other 'utilities'.
I like Washbrook but it is now his time to show how good he is. I don't quite concur with those who rave about him. He has plenty of potential but needs an injury free run to establish himself. He has not really knocked on the international door (injuries have not helped) but until he does that he shouldn't be made captain above other senior internationals. I haven't seen the leadership that some are saying he possesses - leadership is something we have badly lacked for 3 seasons and he has played in plenty of games in that time - but anyway I would rather he concentrate on establishing himself and working on his own game. He has plenty to prove yet and I hope he does.'"
I agree about Whiting, I like him as a player but don't think he is good enough to warrant a starting place. However as a squad player he is exactly what a side needs as he can cover a number of positions and never lets the side down.
Washbrook for me has more potential than any of our young players. He is definatle a 13 rather than a 6 but can do a job at 6. At 13 he offers the right amount of passing, running, kicking and tackling skills and it is well known amongst the squad that he is a bit of a spokesman for the younger players. I can see a lot of similarities in him and Sinfield at a similar age and I think these are the type of players we should be building a side around. Along with Tansey, Yeaman, Hall, Briscoe etc. Play Fitz in the backrow and allow a Washy a run at 13, before his injury he was really looking the part and I remember a Sin Bin thread where his name constantly came up as a future GB player by fans of other sides.
He needs to get his form back after his injury layoff but I think he will perform given a run in the side. All itwould mean is either Radford or Tickle missing out but that to me is no issue. I'd have Tickle with Fitz and Manu off the bench. Washbrok ahead of Tickle/Radford everyday of everyweek.
