Why do you care, things at your club so bad that you're going to cross the floor next season?

No i havent forgot the last 2 years.....Calderwood was here last season and was 1 of our better players......seeing as i see him week in week out i can comment better than you......which 3 players we on about?...Tuffor and Lynne wont be ready yet and i would leave them for another season.....then put them both in with Briscoe and Hall in centres......a all Hull acedamy.....think we have a better history and how to handle young players coming through better than you.

Caldwerwood's stats are really nothing special and being one of your better players last season really doesn't hold up very well.

Yep, them 2 where mentioned on another thread but I cant remember the other, might have been the younger Briscoe.

Not disputing that at all, I would love to be in the situation where we could offload a player on the downslide and replace him with a talented local lad.

if your going on this seasons stats Calderwoods played 1 game compared to colbons 3 games! so you cant really compare them just yet.

Stats are a load of $hite...i prefer to go on what i see on the pitch....the other Briscoe is a full-back.

Colbon is mediocrity personified and FYI one wigan fan said, when he left, and I quote ...."Never has someone SO average played so many games for wigan" Yes they rated him so highly !

Calderwood has made more tackles despite fewer appearances, and has scored only two tries fewer than Colbon despite fewer appearances and playing in a team that finished 12th in SL. If you want to use stats to judge a player - which is a silly way of judging a player's overall ability anyway - these are far from clear cut.

Its just that you read so much into how enthusiastic Calderwood is, yet according to the stats he hardly takes a ball in. Is it just that he threatens to look enthusiastic?
And yes, I know stats dont tell the full story.

No, they don't. So it's a little ridiculous to try to use them to prove one player is better than another. Calderwood is slightly built, hence he makes fewer metres. So, if you have a winger who you know isn't designed for getting good metres from a hit up, it would be a little bit silly to expect that winger to take a load of hit ups, wouldn't it?

As Brian Mcdermott said on Boots n All last season.. "Stats are for geeks who dont play rugby, getting dirty and working hard for your team wether you miss a tackle or not is what a team needs, everyone makes mistakes and thats when your team ethic jumps in to have the will to cover that yardage to cover that mistake"

So apart from his kick chase game and a bit of pace of which I dont think he is as quick as he once was, what does he add to the team thats worth a new contract?

No I think you are quite correct that he isnt as fast as he once was however he has not lost that much and his kick chase is still exemplary , and as shown in the quins game his will to work hard for the team is undoubtedly in the top three in the team!!
He has a few years left!!

Maybe so but I see all your games on sky, all the highlights and 2 games a year. Its a fair few and enough to form an opinion.

No-one is claiming that Calderwood is anywhere near his try scoring form of 2005. His move to Wigan was a poor one in retrospect.

He suffered with a lack of service last season but his effort and enthusiasm stood out amongst his team-mates. That is why he is held in high regard by Hull fans. Hopefully Longy when he is back on the pitch can get him amongst the tries.

They don't lie, as such, they just provide a very narrow, compartmentalised summary of difficult to define inconsistencies, as far as rugby league goes. i.e. they aren't much use in this context.

Stats tell an accurate, but they are limited to what they can show......UGH, I come on here to ESCAPE from my dissertation!
