I think that Whiting to FB, Briscoe to Centre, Lyne to the Wing would have been the best option, and the least messing the team around or playing people out of position.

Would have made much more sense to me to give Lyne another run and have a look at how Briscoe would go at centre.

IMO we need -

A full back
A centre
A first choice half back
A back up half
An interchange hooker

Thats five players needed with only a couple of weeks left till the season opener. Whata fecking joke and a total disaster all rolled into one.

2 half backs there and still the situation hasnt been resolved...the minute 1 half back is missing...the whole back line goes to pot......even the decsion to let Hall go is now a mistake.

Lyne is on the bench. We might well see that happen at some point.

That would be my preference.

Lets not forget that this is a friendly and the chance to try some different things out.

I expect so, I just don't see the sense in that at all. Much better to start that way and change it if it's not working. Manu at centre is pretty much pointless.

It's a friendly. My guess would be that Agar is interested in seeing particular combinations and isn't worried about what order he tries them in.

Firstly, we've already seen Manu have a couple of spells at centre in SL with injuries, so we know a bit about what he can do there. Secondly, surely the best thing to do is try combinations in the order of preference in which you're likely to use them? If Manu really is a preferred option at centre than Briscoe, I fear for our selection policy again this season.

As long as he knows for the 1st game i wouldnt worry. It's the same as getting concerned by squad numbers. Nothing matters other than match fitness in these kind of friendlies imo.

Moore, Obst, Murphy and Phelps we bring these four in and we have adequate cover.

I think you're reading too much into this TBH, particularly given Agar's widely-publicised opinion on the value of friendlies. The time to start worrying is if we start the league campaign with an oddball selection.

We may have no choice in that though.

I just think it's very odd that a coach who has repeatedly stated that he sees Briscoe's future at centre and Lyne as a very exciting prospect who's not too far away, when faced with a selection problem at centre chooses to go with a 2nd rower in preference to them.

Don't know a lot about Moore, but the sad fact is that whilst the others aren't that great players, they are still better than the options we currently have (i.e. crap, or none).

Agars stated he wants the forwards to get a lot of minutes under their belt, maybe this was the easiest way.
