I don't condone it but most of what he says has gone on for years, no-one dare say anything about it, but players betting was rife in the 80's and who knows it prbably still is!

Be a good read though, he'll sell thousands!!!!!!

He could face a very very long suspension for the admission in his book and the RFL have no choice, but to progress a charge now. I bet they will not place him on suspension until after Saturday as they should do under the normal practices of this sort of thing.

I remember a West Ham (IIRC) player who had bet on the time of the first throw in being in the first 10 seconds and promptly belted the ball straight from the kick off into touch. NO rules against it at the time!

The RFL saw the book manuscript a few weeks ago. Would have thought they may have acted already if they were going to although who knows.

Well, that's Long fecked for a few months then.

It doesn't matter where it's on sale, without supporting evidence Long can just claim to have made it up.

As pointed out elsewhere, the RFL had sight of the manuscript before publication so this will hardly be news to them.

Whether made up or not, it could be seen as bringing the game into disrepute.

Yup. Thing is that's a pretty vague charge with a not too well defined set of penalties, so he'd likely get off a lot lighter than if he was charged with betting again.

And I'm not trying to defend him BTW. I don't mind players with a bit of character, but some of the stuff in his book is just childish and stupid IMO.

If he got a disrepute charge than any RL player ever convicted of an offence would have to be charged with the same!

I reckon nothing will happen, storm in a teacup, the only person who wins is Longy as it's selling him more books.
