| Lots of talk at the moment about players whom have gone.
Luke Briscoe
Jack Briscoe (rumoured only?)
Craig Hall - Best player in SL (well now apparantly)
So all joking aside, whom who have we released (Youngster only <21/22) are we gutted about?
Craig Hall, I liked. but not sure he will set the world alight. I do think he is average at SL level.
Luke Briscoe - who knows - was gutted though, especially under the circumstances it was done
TOmmy Lee - not bothered, is anyone else? Will he make it?
Going back a few years, I don't think we have made too many errors, as not many players ripping it up ex Hull.
Maybe therefore we have not made too many bad decisions, but sad that we don't seem to have produced many SL "stars". I would have expected to have been sat here gutted that a couple of youngsters we released would be really good, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

| The only ex Hull player I would take back is Danny Brough and he is not from the under 22 bracket anyway.
The youngest Briscoe may well come back to haunt us but I suspect his stock is exaggerated by who his older brother is.

| Can't really think of anyone tbh.
Had a quick scan through slstats - think these were roughly in that age group when at the club?
Craig Poucher
Matt Schultz
Richard Fletcher
Matt Crowther (retired I think through bad injury)
Paul Parker
Matt Donkin
Graeme Horne
Liam Higgins
Peter Lupton
Alex Wilkinson
Dwayne Barker
Andy Bailey
Danny Hill
Kirk Dixon
Matty Dale
Anthony Thackeray
Scott Wheeldon
Nathan Freer
Ashley Thackeray
Josh Hodgson
Dennis Touffour
Tommy Lee
In hindsight given our injuries in the halves consistently over the last few years, should have kept Lupton as cover. Kirk Dixon maybe? Wheeldon for Dowes?
Players I regret releasing/leaving are Garreth Carvell, Danny Brough and Paul Cooke (from a playing perspective only, obviously).

Correct. Houghton is pretty much the best homegrown player to debut in the last 10 years - would that be right? Even going back a bit further, in the best era for a while of bringing youth through we had Yeaman, Horne, Cooke and King, and none of them were top drawer international class players. For an area supposedly a hotbed of RL talent, it's really poor.

Would say Houghton is probably right. Piss poor really, hopefully a thing of the past and they will now get their chance.

Hasn't Tom Briscoe been on our books since he was like 15 or 16?

Nathan Freer has signed for fev,and Tuffour has signed for Hunslet( regularly missed training at york last season, hence his lack of games for them during 2011)

| As with similar threads we have had before I would suggest it not only raises questions about our coaching of youngsters, but also the scouting system we employ. For me the one backward move that AP has made is in re-employing the chief scout who presided over all these barron years of development.
I do wonder sometimes if we concentrate too much on winning youth games and not actually developing players. Going right back to the Colts ere we won league and cup titles, often bringing first team players in for finals (Lee Jackson being an example) simply to have the glory. I am sure excluding developing players who possibly fell by the wayside as a result of this policy.
Or is it simply that the Hull & ER area does not develop players and more work needs to be done by the club with the local amateur leagues.

After his loan spell,he joined york on a 1 year deal for 2011 when Hull released him,but he missed several training sessions, and seemed to lose interest in the game for a while,so couldn't get in their team.He was released by york at the end of the 2011 season and signed a 1 year deal at Hunslet.

I gree with some points but what about the attitude of the players, why don't they take any responsibility?

Sheldon you are right . The players need to have the right mental attitude as well. It may well be that its not in the Hull public's make up to be dedicated. I use King, Cooke as examples of those who have had it all but blown it. But I would suggest in most cases at a young age they have to have the right guidance and few are.

yes he shouldn't be included in this age group of players as was much older. he was a youngster when he featured in the sheffield eagles side that beat wigan in the cup final
on another note i always liked richard fletcher but somehow he never quite fulfilled his potential for me
