Quote ="Dnats Ynnepeerht"Hopefully we can get some comments from those who regularly watch the academy sides or are involved with them in some way.
The question being, why aren't we producing as many youngsters as we should be?
Since Tom Briscoe in 2008(?) we've not had a youngster come through the system and break into the first team.
Out of the crop of players to come from the academy before him, only Houghton is a certainty to make the 17. This crop includes players like Washbrook, Burnett, Lee, Wheeldon, Hall.
At the same time, we've relied on loan signings such as Broughton and McShane to cover injuries.
Higgins, Hodgson, Hill, Thackray all came through the system in recent years and were deemed not good enough. G. Horne had the potential, but it was never realised at Hull.
10 years or so ago, we produced Horne, Yeaman, King, Radford and Cooke. All players who either went on to play for their country or to win major trophies.
Is this cause for concern? Who do we have in the youth set up who you can realistically see cementing a place in the 17 in the next few years?'"
Currently the under 20's team are sitting 2nd in the league table.......and last week only just got beat by 7 points by a French National side and given a couple of calls there way would have won the game. Please go along to one of the games and i am sure your questions will be answered as you will see a talented crop of youngsters that i am sure some of which, will be in the 17 regularly in the future.
