I suspect the developer has indicated that they would take their business elsewhere unless they can get a deal not involving construction of a stadium. J30 is a good location, but let's not kid ourselves that there aren't other equally good sites out of the district that will appeal to developers. Though there can't be many with that proximity to M1 & M62

Mine too!
I just wish there was some kind of investigative journalist out there who would pick up on it and start doing some digging, but journalism these days seems very much more of a "copy and paste" type of role.

Thats a good question. Its easy to answer for the developer as they dont want to pay for the community facilities that they promised.
Why would the council (ie Mr Box) not want the Newmarket stadium to proceed? I believe that there is no way that he would allow the Newmarket stadium to be built before a new one was provided for Castleford. The Castleford project is struggling as it is, and that is without any question over duplicating facilities for the area should the facilities at Newmarket get built.

But our wonderful council will be encouraging them units to be built at Newmarket to help trigger the community stadium build, wouldn't they?

| Exactly, why encourage business to Newmarket and have to sneak it outside of the S106 when you can direct it to Cas to aid their cause?
This council leadership is very Castleford centric and does not care much for the City area, hence the lack of support for Newmarket and all the community facilities it would provide. Why are the council not outraged by what has happened at Newmarket ? Because they have manipulated the situation to be exactly as it is to delay everything until Castleford is sorted.

Try contacting the "Rotten Boroughs" section at Private Eye magazine. These bring the dodgy antics of Borough Councils and other public organisations to the notice of the public.

We have not been idle during what appears to be a period of silence. We are having meetings with various people and I would anticipate that it will not be much longer before everything is in the public domain. We then will need a great deal of support from the public.
Please trust and bear with us just a little bit longer.

| It doesn't appear to be a period of silence , it's been an age.
Would much rather nothing said atall than statements like delicate stage , should be able to make an announcement soon etc etc etc.
The club will getc all the support it needs but I think the general Mr and Mrs Wakefield will need some really hard hitting facts before they even stur.

It was also me - but like you, I'm not sufficiently up to speed on all the comings and goings to be able to summarise it in a way that might pique their interest.
If whatever is coming next relies on public support - I don't hold out much hope; the majority of the Wakefield public don't give a shiny $h1t about WT - and will see priorities on their own doorstep for public spending that will far outweigh any concern they have for what is widely talked about as a new stadium for a privately owned sports club.

Although I agree, it will be hard to get any serious public support about a Stadium. If it came to getting any Public support we need to get the conversation around the whole planned Newmarket Community Sports development that were promised and not just the stadium, we probably would have more support. Plus the issues around obesity in the area & the benefits that this development would bring to the Community in that regard, plus the link up with Wakefield College. We could also focus on the fact we've got the worst sporting facilities of any City in the Country and apart from a a new Sun Lane being built, there's been nothing new built in the City for over a couple of decades.

You could be right Bren, but surely the Newmarket project wasn't to provide a new stadium for a privately owned sports club, but a COMMUNITY STADIUM FOR A CITY OF 330,000 CITIZENS (the 20th largest local authority in the country). If the same amount of interest could be generated as for the town hall protests a few years ago it could be very worthwhile.

| It would be nice to get something out of this but how do you get blood out of a stone I would suggest Yorkcourt as it was don't have the amount of money needed to hand to cover the cost of a stadium and would go into liquidation if a court case came about and they were ordered to build a stadium. Those owed money would be served first and our chance of a stadium would be zilch as they don't owe us money. Just my take on it as the capital they have wont build a stadium.

Surely the value of "Newmarket" is in the land that planning permission was granted and as such, whoever eventually holds the land (even if Yorkcourt pass it on, for whatever reason) would still be "liable" for the community facilities ?
Just a quick question for those in the know.
Did Yorkcourt benefit from the White Box being built or, was this done by a different developer ?
