| I can't see there being a snowball in Hades chance of any of our responses making it onto the WCCG site - they want to preach, not discuss.
Whwn all said and done, the development proposal is probably the least intrusive option for the site, and makes great efforts to consider the locals. If this fails, I would be seriously worried that in a few years time a much less sympathetic plan is passed by the Tory Government, who are far less likely to put any restrictions on the developers. The stadium should be seen as a buffer against all out development of the site, and if the buffer fails then hello warehouse world!!

| I am slightly confused when people say they are being sympathetic to the people who live there... they are building a hotel directly opposite the houses and no amount of puddles and ickle trees is going to hide that. i would have been more happy if they had done half residential and half industrial. I support Wakey thru and thru but on this I can see big troubles ahead, I can see it going to Brussels as it infringes on their rights to have a nice place to live.
This is the only way we can build the stadium so i will support it but I also feel for the people down their... a compulsory purchase on their houses would have been better as they will be worth FA afterwards.

Those 'ickle' trees have a habit of growing into bigger trees. It is also possible to advance the effect by the use of targetted larger trees. I also note from the plans available that the screen planting strip between the hotel and the housing is 'substantial' - certainly more than is generally provided in these situations - trust me, I know!
This will still be a 'nice place to live', but it will be different. Gone will be the 'gypsy mounds' and the open areas of spoil / reclaimed rough ground. In it's place will be somewhere / something more 'manicured', with built in accomodation for flaura / fauna and all forms of wildlife. To suggest that no wildlife can survive in these situations is quite ridiculous.
Whilst there will be 'holes' in the scheme that can be plugged or improved, the developer hasn't spent a year planning this without much thought.

It's sympathetic in that the developers are not just sticking a dirty great warehouse on their doorstep! For an UNSYMPATHETIC development that was given the green light by WMDC have a look at the nice 'four bed detached executive style' house that were built in Crigg, with nice green fields at the back until all the houses were sold and Redcats built an ENORMOUS warehouse that towers over them.

Potovens Lane Wrenthope, has warehouses, offices built just behind them along with a dual carriageway. Do people still want to live there? erm yes... Newmarket Lane is hardly a nice road, rutted and big holes along with a old waggon track which crosses the road, this devlopment will stop through traffic down that road which has got to be a good thing for residents.

| Funny how people are slagging the guy off for being single minded whereas everyone on here are so open minded.
This or their site is not the place for discussions as both sides are biased.... maybe do another pertition or something.

Well of course I'm biased - we've worked for 5 years for this opportunity and, in my opinion, this is a great opportunity on the back of a development that will happen some time anyway.
I'm not slagging anyone off - I respect the guy for what he is trying to do, but I think we should be honest here and acknowledge that what he wants is what we do not. I can't see a problem with that - but I can see a problem in someone pretending to be interested in preserving wildlife etc when in reality they just don't want change in their lives. ![Confused icon_confused.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_confused.gif)

I've been checking the Wakefield Planning Website once a week at least so that I could post a link up on here for you when it has been but there's been nothing yet. I can only assume that is because it's Christmas and everyone has been out of office etc. It did say in one of the articles though that it was expected to be December/January when it would be.

I live in Wrenthorpe just behind the redhall development and with Unit 41 just up the road. Both of these developments have been extremely positive to the community creating thousands of jobs without really effecting day to day life. Progress is progress.
Newmarket is perfect for this development and providing top class sporting facillies as well.
Providing much needed sports facilities. Providing much needed jobs on an ex pit without any council funding.

I really don't get the point you are trying to make.
Will these units be smelly, noisy affairs? Not in relative terms at all.
Are you suggesting we don't press ahead with these plans because of the 'concerns' you raise? You are quite entitled to that opinion - but don't expect me to agree with it!

While we're talking about heritage, lets talk about Trinity's proud heritage as one of the founding members of the Rugby League, a proud working class sport that decided it had had enough of the fact that money, and not skill, decided whether you could play the game. This new code forged tremendous links with the working population in large parts of Northern England, on both sides of the Pennines but nowhere more intimately than the Wakefield area, where along with cricket it overshadowed all other sports to provide relief from the drudgery of everyday working life. It used to be said that if a team needed a classy half-back they could shout down any pit shaft in Wakefield and get a hatful of worthy contenders.
What better way to preserve this heritage than to build a new stadium on an abandoned pit! Re-form the old prize winning Newmarket/Silkstone Brass Band, have them playing on match days, and call the Stadium the 'Up Yours, Thatcher!' stadium.
Thats what I call Heritage - wildlife generally looks after itself, thats why some of the best places to see wildlife are derelict sites and railways!
