Classic first SL season for an Aussie, they are usually pretty average until they adjust to our game which takes a season for the vast majority.

Adrian Vowles at Cas was a classic example. Very poor the 1st season but went on to win MOS and become a cult hero.

Bill Tupou was a classic, terrible to start with, but there are loads tbh. Unless you are a top NRL player at his peak and thus can't afford to fail, however they don't play in SL anymore.

I can buy into that in some positions and to be honest I’m not sure what people were expecting from Proctor. He had always been a grafter rather than a line breaking eye catcher. I think he is doing exactly what he has always done…all be it at a diminishing level due to his age. He’s never been a line ruining strike edge forward.

What I cannot accept though is using the settling in period as an excuse for the displays Atoni has so far put in. He’s been terrible. I understand there can be a settling in period but thus far his heart does not look in it. He does lie minutes and simply trundles it in.

If ever there was a lad that needed this game tonight it is Atoni as if he cannot get up for this match with the importance of it then I don’t know what we do with him.

I've had no probs with his effort in games. But like some others, i'm not sure if he's playing in a role that he's been brought here for? I think Crowther could do what he's done so far, let's see what he comes up with tonight, if selected of course.

Thought he was solid tonight. Few good runs and some busy tackling. No errors.

Can think of a number of experienced players who had far worse games starting with the captain.

Missed tackle leading to a try and pulling a heel gifting a penalty on 4th relieving pressure.

Yes all that for a good 10 minutes then blowing out of his Harris. Pitts and Ashurst two equally old men have more energy

Make proctor the coach. Done for a player but knows more about the game as anyone at the club

Sorry but you need more than that from your highest paid player. He’s past it, sad but true. He does nothing that Crowther can’t for half the money.

And given he did nothing of note that speaks volumes.

The issue isn’t Proctor.

The issue is a 9, 6 & 7.

I’m with you on 9. I think 13 is more of an issue though and Ashurst needs to sit out a few and drop the captaincy. Running it in is fine repeatedly but not when the ball comes to you in good movement prime for a right to left shift… Crowther stunted that numerous times.

I thought Lino and Smith got the ball into some decent positions today tbh and would persevere with that. Wasn’t perfect but was improvement. There wasn’t many great attacking lines presented for them except Dagger a few times out back.

We got ball in good field position and had a good bit of possession.

We even got go forward off our pack.

Our “halves” got good ball and ran sideways.

Both were terrible in my opinion.

Have to disagree… there was no energy, penetration, unselfish lines… no bending the Cas line… to a man the forwards were awful… and when you only have one creative half.. and a weak pack.. it’s easy peasy to defend.

Simply not good enough at this level ,whether in attack or defence our skill sets are woefully inadequate .The continual chopping and changing of the team cannot help ,but they looked like a team that had just been cobbled together the day before .10 minutes without westerman and they score sums the night up for me ,and sets us up for a long depressing season ahead culminating in the inevitable drop into the unknown
