| I was very impressed by Tronc, I think he'd do well to request a transfer across the hills to Saints. Brough was everywhere for you till he went off, the annoying little she ite is turning into quite a player. I thought Obst and Korkidas really struggled with the slippery ball, I've never seen so many knocks on from the play the ball. You were unlucky tonight, you matched Saints in the initial exchanges and went 12-0 up with two great long range tries. But the last 10 of the first half Saints got on top and pinned you back with an excellent kicking game from Eastmond and Pryce setting up Lomax's try to leave it 6-12 at the break. Saints dominance continued into the second half and Eastmond's try came from a lovely flat pass (I was in line with it, it was fine) and was finished superbly. The only time I feel Wakey clocked off defensively was when Cunningham pinched a trademark try to mark his 500th appearance.
But still Wakey were able to get back into the game. A penalty and some great drives from Tronc helped you to score in the corner. You could tell Saints were under pressure as we went for 2 from the half way line. I think with Brough on the field you might have had a chance of a draw, but as it was you didn't really threaten the line, but it made it very tense. Brough didn't seem badly injured, looked like he caught a stray boot and was K.Od and cut as he was wobbling like a drunk as he ran off.
I think you'll continue to do well this season, your pack is good. I feel you are missing a top quality hooker and if you could find a replacement for Newton somewhere you've got a chance of making the Semi Finals this year in SL. Decent away following too, one of the best I've seen from Wakefield. I'd guess at around 750-1,000. Good luck for the rest of the season.

| Personally, I think we were very lucky to win that match and we probably wouldn't have had Brough remained fit. Some of that was because we - as has become the norm - made life difficult for ourselves but some of it was down to your guys who have strengthened further on the back of a pretty good season last year.
I'm not sure I enjoyed the game as Saints were way too frustrating for that, but I'm glad we won (or perhaps relieved is a better word!).
One of your tries - the kick through one - was a joy to watch.

| Quote ="Agent Mulder"Thats a Wakey fans version of the game and yes I know it is on the Wakey site. Your first try was from a pass that was so far forward it was beyond belief. The second Wakey try came from a knock on which was missed by the officials. It was right infront of us. I don't think Brough going off cost you the game as we lost Gidley with what looks a long term injury. His replacement lasted about a minute before he went off with a wrist or hand injury (just hope it's not broken.) All in all it was a very good exciting end to end game which could have gone either way. The officials were poor but for both sides. You should be proud of your team they will still be up there at the end of the season when it matters.'"

I can't argue with that really, fair review of the game from my view it looked as though some crossing had occurred to create the gap for eastmond to go through.
We didn't help ourselves at all with the number of times we turnover the ball, and we didnt really touch the ball in there half in first 30mins of 2nd half, which then shows how good our defence was to withstand that pressure, morrison going over to make it 18 could have made a hell of a difference as with all the defending we had to do we looked tired 2nd half. Brough going off didn't help our cause but neither did gidley going off for them.
The young un's are good morton and i also thought davey took his chance well tonight didn't look out of sorts, and perhaps its apt that his opposite and one of the best hookers to grace super league on his 500th appearance made the difference.
Im a disappointed to come away without a win? Yes,
If i had asked myself 2/3 yrs ago yes wouldn't have been the answer that just shows how far we've come

| iagree with one poster wen moore broke thru he had jefferies one side and broughy other n he choose not to pass!!! if he had that would have been certain 6 points and would have changed game i think, also leo breaking thru and saints just taking pass instead of going to gleeson was a missed chance, that being said we battled hard made alot of mistakes and put our selves under pressure needlessly, just felt we missed a newton to come off bench and settle us like cunningham did for saints, but alas that not to be now, 2 nd half we was under the cosh quite alot, esp with mr albert giving penalties away like confetti but at end of day come away thinking not our best performance of season but positives to come out of it , long drive home tho

| Incredibly proud of the effort from the team tonight, at times they were out on their feet but continued to defend as if their lives depended on it.
The speed of the Saints play the ball punished us and at 20-12 I began to fear the worse, but the spirit they showed to be in the game until the very last second was amazing.
The referee was poor for both sides and gave us plenty of slack when we were knackered, let's not forget that we took a very very good side to the wire this evening and good have won the game.
Fans were great this evening!

| Good game tonight. Thought we defended heroiclly the try that won it for them was forward. THought Tronc was exceptional tonight how good is Dale Morton looking? Meli thought he would just strole through in the corner but dale stopped him and pushed him into touch great attitude for a young man. Ref was very poor not many sides would have beaten St helens with the decisions they had for them. GLeeson if he had taken that ball so we would have been winning 18-0 that could have been the ball game a quality centre would have taken that. We are a very good side this year and a few decisions our way and a few chances that we should have taken we would have won. Well done boys great effort hope they are not too down. Blaymire 1st game back did well. UP THE TRIN !!!!!!!! MAYBE SOME 1 TO ADD LATER IN YEAR COULD MAKE US GO THAT EXTRA YARD BUT IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE A BETTER SIDE THAN LAST YEAR IT REALLY DOES. | Best side won, but I thought we battled well and showed promise. I'm not sure we had a set of six for first fifteen minutes of second half.
We blew it with the amount of knock-ons, and maybe if we had put together a few sets, we would have given ourself a chance. On the whole, a good performance, and three wins out of the first four is a good start, particularly as one out of four was a realistic possibility.
The ref didn't help. He seemed to make some strange decisions. Eastmond's try seemed to be from an obstruction, and Meli's try was perhaps in touch. On the other hand, I would agree that Morton's try was from a forward pass. Morrisons attempt would have been interesting viewing on a video ref decision. I can see why it wasn't given, as I wasn't convinced, but a slow-mo might have resulted in a try.
What happened at the end? The full time whistle appeared to come when the ball was in play, as the hooter came when JD had the ball? Had we knocked on again?
Can't complain about the result. Saints had so much pressure and possession, and most years would have racked up a cricket score. Their body language wasn't good in the first half, and they looked a bulky, slow side compared to Wigan and Hull, who seem strong and mobile.
Will be a shame not to go to Knowsley Road anymore. The fans don't cause any problems, are loyal to their home town team, and it is a proper rugby ground. I hope they don't lose that when they go posh and all-seater.

gleeson is ok with ball in hand, but his defence is awful, he can make the tackles when hes near them but gets pulled out of position. as for atkins yes he had a centres number on his back but he drove the ball up like a prop at times, so we didnt use him right. to describe them as quality centres is a bit over the top to me and shows the current state of the english game. as for blaymire what do you expect.

| Only a slight glitch, going down to Saints on their patch by six points is nothing to be ashamed of. On hearing the match on the radio last night, all we need to do is just get shut of the silly mistakes our players were doing last night and take our frustration of this defeat out on fart-town next Saturday. Slight hiccup, that's all...

| Thought the result was pretty fair myself, and at points during the second half we did well to not get blown away by them. Despite our 12-0 lead we where under the cosh for most of the first half, only really getting close to the line with our 2 breakaway tries and the kick that Morrison nearly got to that we got the repeat set.
2nd half we dug in well but Saints held the ball better than us and played the conditions. Would like to see the try they scored in the right hand corner as we watched from behind the sticks as it seemed for all the world to have taken the flag. Also the other try when the huge gap appeared right infront of the sticks looked a possible obstruction but would need to sell it again.
Think we need to get Murphy back at FB with Blanch replacing him on the wing. Agree with Mopsey about Gleeson's defence (positioning) being poor, think we maybe should give George a run there if it it doesnt improve. We seemed to let the ball bounce an awful lot, and also "let them have it" when the high ball went up, dont think it specifically cost us but its only a matter of time before it does.
Oh, and the kick appeared fine to me.
Edit: Just seen Meli's try on SSN and it was our man who cleanded the flag out.

| In the first half after scoring two amazing tries we tried to score on every play, with a bit more composure trying to get repeat sets, we could have been 18/24-0 up. Then in the second half we couldnt keep hold of the ball and kept giving saints possesion, we should have won but in the end we were lucky it was so close with the amount of knock on's we did...

I know what you mean, in the end we didn't do enough in the game and so probably deserved to lose.
I do think though that we didn't get the rub of the green at crucial places in the game that may have turned things. The Morrison touchdown that wasn't given would have been interesting on a screen and potential obstructions in two of their tries. We also didn't capitalise when they were gash early on, Moore in particular bombed two chances - the knock on can't be helped (and we did drop a lot more ball than them generally), but going it alone on the break he made seemed the wrong option.
As for being under the cosh in the second half, we put ourselves under pressure with mistakes and penalties, but I think we also allowed them to play the ball too quickly when they were being allowed to lay on longer.

| At 12-0 up, we had alot of ball but made silly errors. Morro nearly scored, Moore could have passed and effectively we let Saints off, who i thought looked pretty poor.
After that, we were penalised for all sorts. Our discipline wasn't great and whenever you allow Saints into a game, they'll destroy you. I'd say for about a 30 min period (end of 1st halve, start of 2nd) all we were doing was tackling and it took it's toll.
But that said, the lads showed pride, desire and commitment. Teams of the past might well have fallen away and allowed Saints to rack up 30+ points. This side has something about it, an honesty and seems to have a good mentality. When we got it back to 22-16, that was only our second set of 6 in St Helens halve in the second stanza.
We could easily have won last night, we just made far too many errors and lacked some discipline at important times. Maybe at 12-0 we could have showed some patience but there again it could easily have gone to 18-0 with the right pass. Good performance in defeat and something to build upon.

I can see why it wasn't given, as I wasn't convinced, but a slow-mo might have resulted in a try.
=#800040What happened at the end? The full time whistle appeared to come when the ball was in play, as the hooter came when JD had the ball? Had we knocked on again?
Can't complain about the result. Saints had so much pressure and possession, and most years would have racked up a cricket score. Their body language wasn't good in the first half, and they looked a bulky, slow side compared to Wigan and Hull, who seem strong and mobile.
Will be a shame not to go to Knowsley Road anymore. The fans don't cause any problems, are loyal to their home town team, and it is a proper rugby ground. I hope they don't lose that when they go posh and all-seater.'"
Yep - JD Knocked on - again!
