I always look for a player in the new signings that I think can put extra bums on seats.We have not signed one, so like most fans we hope for the best but know we will be out of the top 8 till we get more cash coming in to the ground .Let's hope the new Stadium starts that

Johnstone, Fifita, Tanginoa, they're our draw cards. Yes the signings are not anyone to get excited about, but hopefully they will add to the team in a positive way. When/if we starts selling more than 1000/2000 season tickets, we might start looking at signings that could out bums on seats. Until then it's making the most of what we have.

I'd also add Corey Hall to that list. (given time)

Too many big name signing have turned out to be disappointments over the years ,and some that have come under the radar have been fans favourites . A side that is competitive and shows commitment and effort will pick up more wins than losses IMO and that in itself will bring folk in . Listening to poaching and his vision for the club fulls me with confidence ,and has more charisma and vision in his little finger than Chester had ,who was about as inspiring as an undertaker in his interviews,and surely that must have rubbed off on the players when things got tough .Different team/coach/mindset,what’s not to like ,bring it on .

Im with you it is what it is although think players released would offer more than some signed and the squad is a little unbalanced but we have a budget and would rather stay in that than the club go bust for me its about getting through this season and will happily take 10th right now then hopefully the ground will take shape and with the pitch we can start improving our income

To many fans go by reputation, this is probably a good guide if you are Saints. However, you have to ask why a player with a big reputation has ended up at Trinity, especially overseas players.

There is simply no logic as to why a player who still has it would choose us. We have no money, no obvious chance of sucess and facilities at present remain poor.

True we used to pick up the odd star but NRL players of any known quality joining SL these days are so rare that even Leeds and Wigan etc struggle.

Trinity has some quality but what we really need is players who are hungry, most of our signings fall into that category with the possible exception of Gaskell though even he has underachieved so far in his career relative to other players from that generation.

Signings are never about reputation or selling ST's they are about players who fit and only the coach knows that, despite what we all think on here at times.

Gaskell and Lineham the most high profile of our signings may be duds but they may not be and if the latter is the case we've signed two cracking players. Best to judge after 10m games or more imho.

Regarding NRL players coming to the UK, I got told the other day that in a recent interview Joey Leilua admitted that he didn't know that Featherstone weren't in Super League until after he had signed for them

If those players had signed 3 year ago would agree with you .Know it's hard to judge with friendlies ,but think W P later signings have been better .Let's hope you are right and I am wrong .Will still give them my full support

Bit of chinese whispers going on here I think, he did say he didn't know Fev were second tier when they rang him up, but I'm not sure he said anything about not knowing until after he had signed...

Just googled it and it could be interpreted either way to be fair....

Yeah he's the epitome of a boom-or-bust signing really. I'm pleased we have taken a gamble with him (though rumour is he's not on an exorbitant salary), we'll have to wiat and see how he goes.

Hopefully that's next week v Leigh? Can't decide whether to walk down to POR to enjoy the atmosphere or just watch it at home on t'box.

If that proves the case he won’t be a Fev player for long, this signing doesn’t ring quite true to me. The idea that he didn’t know Fev were not in SL is nonsense. Even if he didn’t his agent would, this strikes me as a leverage signing that will have a very large get out clause should SL or even the NRL come knocking.

I don’t blame Fev but this boy is still NRL capable let alone SL.so I can’t see him slogging it against Batley for long.

He is a top class centre. If his head is on he is comfortably the the best centre in SL, but his head hasn't been on for 2 years and he carries a lot of baggage with him.

Thats exactly what I meant, if a stint at Fev goes well he will become a very attractive prospect.

This has been speculated at (as it was with Cameron King and Nu Brown) but nobody really has any firm idea and if there isn't a clear SL clause in his contract Mark Campbell won't let him go anywhere until his initial contract (which I assume is for a year) expires.

The club insisted James Harrison see out his contract in 2021 when multiple SL teams were trying to sign him by stating they'd want a significant transfer fee to allow him to move whilst still under contract and I'd be surprised if they had gone to the expense of flying Leilua over and housing him if he could walk away from the deal after a couple of games.

I don't know why you think the signing doesn't ring true though, he was getting no offers in the NRL, virtually every SL club was already at the quota limit by the time it became clear he was going to be available (and were wary of his reputation to boot), and until Leigh tried to muscle in late in the day he didn't really have any other reaslistic options and looked like he might not be playing RL at all this year.

Fair point, I meant more from his perspective ie a shop window. Like you say nobody knows the full detail but it's hard to imagine there isn't an out, something that is a benefit to you as well as him. It's ok this idea of making a player see out a contract but it's extremely hard to enforce. The truth is it's very easy for a player to make his feelings felt as regards whether he wants to play for you. Most are honourable but some are not and you don't want to be lumbered with one of those. You've been around you don't need me to tell you the risks.

I get your comparison with the others but I do think this player is a few notches up in terms of desirability to an SL club, he's a borderline marquee signing. One thing I can promise you is that though not impossible it's unlikely to be us who causes you any bother

Personally I'd be surprised if he has an out clause (because it would make no sense for Fev to fly him over and house him if he could walk after his first good game) but I'll be pleasantly surprised if he comes in and plays anything like the 2018 Joey anyway, which isn't to say he won't be a great signing at Championship level.

I'd like to think that for most of this season playing for Fev in SL in 2023 will seem a reasonable possibility anyway (we'll know more about that after Monday night v Leigh).

There would if your chairman had written in a compensation clause. If and I agree it's only an if, he did move I'd fully expect you to receive the 'nominal' transfer fee to cover it. A bit like the one Catalan paid us when the centre whose name I forget changed his mind and stayed with them,
