| Getting back to the original topic....
My first matches at BV were on Saturday afternoons in the late '70's when my mates dad used to take us down to watch the "A-team" play (NO...NOT B.A. BARRACUS and his mates ), and we always used to operate the old scoreboard on the North Terrace (remember the one that was about 100 feet tall, and looked fit to topple in any half-decent gust of wind), anyway after a couple of seasons doing that we got told that the old guy who used to do it for the first team was retiring, and we were asked if we would do it for the first team on a Sunday (dream shot or what ???) We then had the best seat in the house for free, and despite the occasional cock-up or numbers flying off in high winds, spent many a happy hour up there before then being moved to the South end of the ground, and the new small scale scoreboard, where I particularly remember one game against Wigan who were in their prime, and they eventually beat us 72 - 0 (I think, or something similar)....I know my arms were dropping off at the end of the game !!!
Other memories include :-
The Leeds game, coming back from 18-0 down.
Can't remember the opposition, but we restarted and the opposition scrum half went to catch the high ball, knocked on big style right in front of the posts, and was so annoyed with himself, he forgot to drop on the ball, and Nigel Bell just picked it up and raced under the sticks
David Jones doing his best every week to try and run straight [u through[/u the opposition players.
"Stretcher Fletcher's" mazy runs and wicked side-steps.
Toppo ghosting through from anywhere on the park.
Bill Ashurst with his dodgy knees
Andy Fisher coming on as sub in his first game, and then getting sent off 30 seconds later
Having both mine and my brothers tyres slashed on Oakenshaw Street by some pi$$ed up local resident who didn't like us parking outside his house, but the moron left us a note on our windscreens virtually admitting he had done it, so he spent a night in the cells at Wood Street
Good times...nearly all good memories !!!

| Sitting on wall in front of old wooden stand with my feet over edge and the biggest bobby i have ever seen (think he went by the name of Barnsley Bill) walking up and down side of pitch and telling you off for having your feet over, mid to late 70's
Getting changed under old wooden stand freezing coldplaying for Ledger Lane school at half time of wakey match with the most efeminate games teacher acting as ref late 70's.
The greatest rugby player I have ever seen Wally Lewis playing for my home town club, however brief it was. Seeing him being stretchered off, coming back on with his head bandaged and winning the match for us, think it was Saints but not too sure.

Yep...remember that well...he actually chased him DOWN the full length of the pitch and performed a perfect round-the-legs tackle 10 metres short of the far try line...should have signed him up after that

| Definitely the night they officially switched on the new floodlights. Yorkshire beat Australia with Neil Fox, the Yorkshire captain, having a cracking match. !967 I think.
I've also got a vague memory of Trinity v Australia when there was an almighty fight involving all 26 players. Have I imagined that, if not does anyone know when it was?

| Back on topic the most recent memory has to be Richard Moore going (almost) the full length of the pitch against Wigan.
From October 1991 when Michael Jackson scored the winner against Leeds from being 18 - 0 down with 20mins to go. Also in the same match Andy Mason's tackle on Ellery Hanley, completely cleaning Hanley out and injuring his shoulder.

I thought it might have been a bit earlier, but it probably was 67 with my memory being what it is. Iirc the score was 20-10 to us, in a very niggly match, according to somebody what was at the official after match function Reg Gasnier allegedly the best centre in the world at the time said of Wakefield they not only beat us up at rugby but they also beat us up at the other thing as well, think old Nelly showed him who was the best in the world that night
