Will the great British public EVER learn???

While I was shopping yesterday in the asda it was proof that some are going to ignore rulings, walking freely with out a face mask with no one challenging them, why have security if your not going to use them

It could’ve been nipped in the bud if face masks were compulsory from the start - like a lot of things.

I doubt it would have made any difference when it was introduced, there will always be people out there who take the attitude " they're not telling me what to do", whether it was introduced in March or July. That attitude is probably why we have more fatalities than say Spain or Italy who seem to have a more compliant/respectful population.

I do agree on the whole the British public can be quite selfish. However, it doesn’t help when the Government do 5 or 6 u-turns on whether or not masks are essential.

How can they tell if you have an exemption for medical reasons or whether you take your mask off when you are inside the shop. All they can do is remind people what the rules are. I suppose they could stop people at the door but it would cause chaos. Smaller shops have a better chance as the numbers are controllable.

I just keep a mask in my pocket, put it on when entering a shop / robbing a post office and take it off when done.

Quite right snowie, Asda didn't have much of a problem enforcing the number of customers allowed into the store at any one time when it all started.

But you are then causing a queue and keeping the trouble causer in the shop.
Better to get them out quickly.
Then sort them out.

asda have never really confirmed in aiding to keep customers to keep a 2 metre distance and I should imagine it's a nightmare to do so, at the end of the day it's their staff I feel sorry for as it's them on the front line having to deal with customers disregarding advise to do so.
I'm sure there's a few bouncers out of work due to the night clubs being closed at the moment

The Police have already stated they will not attend because they feel they have more important things to do.

I really don't understand why Labour are calling on the government to support the people coming from Spain that have to self isolate - if their employers aren't cooperative.

The advise was very clear when the airbridges started - they could be pulled very quickly:

I think the phrase is nipping it in the bud, it's far easier to refuse them entry and put the welfare of the customers first instead of profit, the people who are prepared to comply with the government's orders, and eliminate the possible problem of it spreading again, just out of interest how are you going to sort them out once they've got what they want.

It’s not application of the so called brake but the time allowed before implementation. You can also add the confusion because the transport department includes all areas including the Balearic and Canary Islands but the foreign office still allows travel to the latter two areas. The government despite the short time scale hope that employers will understand but if they don’t those in Spain may face losing their jobs or having to lose two weeks pay due to no fault of their making.

I don't disagree. I was kinda trying to put their point.
I know the supermarkets have had to pay a lot for Security because staff are not in a position to handle idiots that go to the store.
I saw in the news today the some idiot was spitting at staff telling them he has the virus. I know someone in another supermarket where the manager had a stanley knife pulled on him for not letting them just walk in without queuing.
I'm assuming what Tesco and Asda are saying is they'd prefer police to handle stuff like that as they really have no authority to do anything except stopping them coming in which leads to a worse situation sometimes.

I can’t understand why anyone thinks that booking a holiday in Europe in August or any month this year will be all singing and dancing and back to normal, nobody loves their over seas sunshine holidays as much as I do, I cancelled my August holiday in Spain with the possibility of not being able to do what we normally do. No way was I wearing a mask for 4 hours on a plane and in a airport for god knows how long. I think a bit of common sense is needed here and to expect companies then to also pay you another 2 weeks pay to stop at home knowing that there is a chance of the isolation being imposed is pushing it.

there's no difference in pubs where you can refuse to serve someone, on my training you are taught to deal with in a calm manner asking them to leave explaining that to ignore that request is against the law and can lead to prosecution, do security staff now allow for all shop lifters to walk out freely or has that now been added to the list that they would like the police to deal with

I visited a large furniture store outside Doncaster today and donned a mask prior to entering. after about 10 minutes I said to the salesman that I was just going to the entrance to get a bit of air. he asked if I had asthma. I replied that I hadn't, but I have been diagnosed with angina. He gave me his permission to remove the mask if I wished, which I did and obviously felt better for doing so.

No fault of their making ???
They weren't forced to go on holiday to Spain!!
They've taken these trips of their own free will,fully aware that things could change very quickly.

You really do make me laugh,the moaning on here about "not doing things quickly enough" - now the government do something quickly and its too quick for you!!!

Yes the government would like employers to be cooperative,but its not the governments fault that people decided they wanted their two weeks in Benidorm come what may.
Maybe if some of these people had thought it through or discussed with their employer before jetting off - what the consequences would be if something changed and quarantine was re introduced,they wouldn't be whinging now.

Whether there is confusion over the Islands is irrelevant(and i do agree that was confusing),but that doesn't change the facts - people where aware the situation was fluid and could change very quickly.

The public has had options for months now of changing flights and holidays,Tui for example allowed anybody with departures up to 31st August to amend free of charge and that was back in May.

Sorry but these people have chosen to jet off in the middle of a pandemic, knowing full well it could backfire and now they want to blame somebody else for their own stupidity.

Firstly there are no bouncers at Asda or Tesco.
Secondly it isn't against the law to ignore a request from store staff
Third security staff can't really detain you in a supermarket. At best they keep the goods you were trying to steal and possibly report you to the police if they got you on cctv.

But most of all, the staff are just not capable or paid enough to police a store.

The thought of flying abroad for a fortnight, in the middle of a pandemic, is just madness. We've even cancelled an upcoming three nights away in the Lake District.

Governments the world over are desperate to get back to 'the good old days'. I pretty much wrote 2020 off back in April.

Sorry but security staff can arrest a person for stealing just like any citizen if a crime or attempted crime has been commited. The police have wider powers around suspicion that members of the public do not have hth.
