Gutted I couldn't attend. I hope all of you that made it had great nights meeting The King, reminiscing about his time at Trinity plus all the other great things he achieved. RL's equivalent of meeting Muhammad Ali imo.

Had the pleasure of meeting Wally Lewis in Brian Briggs Pub. What an absolute legend he turned out to be in the world of rugby league.

Bit of a shame for me. Lewis played for Trinity at the only time in my life I had no interest in RL. It would be another four years before I even new he'd played for us.

I've seen footage and he looked as good as they say but that's not the same as seeing him in the RWB.

All teams have seen great players before and since. Not many though were undisputed as the greatest player in the world. Quite an achievement for a club that was already in decline.

There can be little doubt the money could have been better spent but in Rock n Roll terms what a way to go!

Nice interview in Yorkshire post sport today. How has a team we could have learned so much from him on training techniques and dedication instead of working against him. Incredible passing ability What a legioned.

A true great, I'm looking forward to Monday night and seeing him again. Mind you he's been "coming " for over thirty years.

Like Pop Tart I met my Rugby League hero last night. Top bloke , he had time for everybody and was still there signing autographs and chatting to fans going on for midnight. His love for the club and fans was absolutely genuine.

Good also to see the likes of Colin Maskill, Nigel Stephenson, Nigel Bell and Mike Lampkowski along with other ex players at the event.

Anybody know what happened to the original Lindsay Gill ? I believe he had an interesting history before Wally brought him over as his on field minder !I guess we can always ask Wally on monday.

Tbh I'm similar in the fact I never got to see him play even though I was living about a mile away. The reason though was a little different, as a kid I just wasn't that into watching the game. I'd been with my dad on a number of occasions and he went to see him lay everytime just about. But all my Autumn/winter time was filled up playing RL/RU and Swimming

When they asked for questions I wrote a couple.
One I asked was "Tell us about Lynsey Gill.
The guy didn't read it out. I reckon he thought it was a dodgy question.

As I remember it he was inside before he came to us. That's why he was available. Gave Wally some professional level protection.

Orange boots I remember and yes I think he came to us with a somewhat chequered past. He wouldn’t last five minutes in today’s game.

Different game and different times altogether now.

But in those days that's what they needed.

Haha yes some minders were no doubt required, but I've never seen one less subtle than Lindsay Gill.

What generalisations.
Yes there were some really hard men before Superleague.
There were also some true sportsmen who graced the game.
At Trinity Neil Fox, Ian Brooke, Bob Haigh , Kenny Hirst, Dave Topliss,Dave Lamming and many more.

I was lucky to get to 9 out of the 10 matches he played for us and took him the programmes to take a look at in Doncaster on Thurs. He was indeed a total Gent and a fabulous guy. He recounted how he proposed to his missus at our table as he came round.

I personally don't think Gill was that bad but the game was different then.
Those same players all suffered from meeting the supposed hard men.

Both existed. That's just a fact. You didn't go one game without someone targeting Topliss or in this example Lewis. DT enjoyed more protection when he went to Hull.
Lewis had more protection when Gill played because they had to worry about what he was going to do as well.
Topper would be even better in the modern game as would Lewis because of the extra protection he would get.
