| Like someone else previously said, surely we need culture first.
Maybe not a nail in the coffin for us, but certainly further down the pecking order now, with Mr Box, in his big top tent.

| The sporting facilities in Wakefield as a whole are a disgrace. The council made no efforts to help Wakefield cricket club or Wakefield rugby union and look what happened to those sides. The sooner we build our own stadium and stick two fingers to the council the better.

| While I'm by no means interested in 'the arts', the money WMDC have put into the Westgate Centre is a drop in the ocean for what a Community Stadium would cost.
What we need from WMDC is some genuine interest and help not 300k!

| You can't just complain everything the council pay money for something that isn't the community stadium.
Culture and the Arts in general is just as important to some residents of Wakefield as Trinity is to us.
This post just alienates that group of people

| I've no problem with a Cultural Arts centre in Wakefield in fact I think it's great. However my issue is with the fact that the council are more than happy to get involved with projects like this but actually go out of their way to prevent us getting a new stadium... all they had to do was refuse planning permission for the cold store!
I've a lot of time for the arts and cultural groups the job they did to save unity hall deserves our praise. In fact we could learn a thing a top from it! Wakefield Unity Stadium has a nice ring to it

Just my attemt at being helpful and factual.
That boozer opposite the Citilodge hotel is fairly cultural although I personally prefer the basics and manliness of the Grey Horse.

| Well we have the Hepworth, The Sculpture Park, plus that arts centre in the old orangery. I would imagine that the spending on those per capita would put us easily in the top ten in the country on a cultural league table.
On the other hand, sporting facilities, we must be at the bottom of all the lists.
So it looks like arts a culture mean everything and sport means nothing in Wakefield.

Oh yeah, and could you imagine our anger if we'd have expected a ground on the back of the Cold store and PP WAS knocked back.
I don't understand some people, we should be pleased that a Cultural arts centre is being built in Wakefield. People pi$$ & whinge about a lack of investment, and claim the city is a sh** tip, then when something positive comes along can't wait to ridicule it! Culture and the arts (music apart) aren't necessarily on the top of my list, but just because money/help isn't being directed our way doesn't detract from what is fundamentally a positive move.
I genuinely believe Wakey is a much better city than it was 20yrs since, we've a great bar area around Unity works, three great music venues and great transport links train wise, unfortunately we have big brother Leeds 15mins away so the detractors always compare with Leeds.
Leeds is light years ahead of us regarding investment, bars, shopping but we always get compared, for me we have a great little alternative to Leeds, NOT instead of Leeds but in ADDITION to it.
Both of my son in laws are from out of town, Sheffield and Derby, both came with preconceived ideas of the city, in fact I think they moved up here actually disliking Wakey, but liking beer and music and the arts they now love it, if they want a cheap, good night/afternoon out they do Wakey and save Leeds for another day.
This weekend we have the Rhubarb festival, different events rhubarb wise dotted around the town and the Cribs exhibition, that's my cultural Saturday afternoon sorted.

As an "outsider" I've got to agree. I can see improvements in Wakefield. Particularly in arts, music, pubs etc. Unfortunately for Trinity there seems to be a lack of interest in the club from the general public of the city. A new stadium would, no doubt, improve that but I dare say its not at the top of most peoples list of things to spend money on.

Absolutely NE, the Wakefield publics apathy is on a shocking level, historically in my rugby lifetime we've never pulled the crowds, a new stadium would be wonderful, I'd be more than happy with a revamped BV, but unfortunately these are exceptional times, the NHS on it's backside is a prime example, as councils are needing to cut costs for health care you can't imagine them ploughing money into a stadium used 12 times a year by 4,000 speccis. We Trinity fans are in the minority, work it out.

I generally agree with your previous post about the City having a bad wrap for no reasons at times. Yes Kirkgate's gone well down hill but that's about it.
We've gone from literally decades of having nothing built in Wakefield apart from the Ridings, to now having new Train stations, Bus station, Trinity Walk, Ings Road. Hepworth Museum, the development on the old Milk Plant behind the Theater, plus even all the development that's happened down Denby Dale Road. So much more's been invested in the City the past 15 years or so than the previous 40.
Saying that, I don't think there's many that think the Council should build us a stadium, just push and get behind the development they rubber stamped & the SoS and not act lack it's nothing to do with them. Especially as it would bring the terrible sporting facilities of the City up to par and not cost them a penny.

| That's the thing that gets me Shifty Cat the council would not have to contribute money wise yet they are not interested in the least shame on them for not helping things along.

| I do wish we didn't engage in this type of either/or buffoonery; the investment in arts and culture in the City has put us on the map for many reasons, and brought in a huge amount of income - long may it continue.
It bears absolutely no relation to the Stadium though - which they aren't and never were expected to fund; but as SC has said - they bloody well should have worked with us, rather than colluding with YCP to work against us.

| I'm in total agreement with WMDC's investment in the cultural side of things The sculpture park, and Hepworth Gallery concept are jewels in our crown. Pity they couldn't have saved the millions invested in the monstrous Hepworth building though and refurbished the stately old crown court building on Wood Street or Wood Street police station for considerably less cost. We might have been able to provide a community stadium with what was saved.
