There are many of them about. Playing devils advocate thats the only reason i can come up with. Id be interested to see if there were any long term benefits to playing these rules (im not saying there definately are), i wouldnt imagine they were made without LTAD in mind and a great deal of thought.

| A number of kids from Stanley and other clubs are currently involved in a pilot scheme by the RFL.
It is held at Wakefield by RLF coaches.
I was excited when this was first introduced the concept of the 4 week program.
Sadly 3 weeks in the kids have done virtually identical sessions each week.
1 session t and p, 1 session traditional, and 1 "game" activity.
Very little variation and the feedback from the parents who have attended and watched has been identical on each occasion.
Really poorly done in my opinion and an opportunity to really get into junior development missed.

| I'm happy to say that Spartans Head Coach Richard Kelly (The Clan) has been nominated for the English Schools Rugby League Board 'Outstanding Contribution to Schools Rugby' award for 2012; the nomination was made by our club link school Ossett Academy, in recognition for Rich's work at the Academy in helping them towards their best ever season of RL.
The ceremony takes place on 11th November at the City of Salford stadium - good luck Rich!

Well deserved, he has a knowledge and a love of the game that makes him stand out IMO and i hope the youngsters at Spartans realise how lucky they are.

It doesn't always show, but I think they do - they'd all run through a brick wall for him though.
Our first season has been a bit of a whirlwind - hard work starts now though, recruiting for 2 new age groups and turning ourselves into a 'proper' club, rather than just a team; still looking for coaches, volunteers and players for U14's, 13's & 12's, as well as sponsors.
Fancy dusting off your boots Al?

I have been through the stages of setting up a club from scratch just like the Spartans.
1 team first season and then onto other ages, sadly it got too much and in all honesty a bloke called Andrew Wood did most of the setting up/paperwork and it got too big for him so the parents ended it by voting to merge with another club who had no juniors at the time and wanted a youth set up (we both knew) they wanted grant money/funding and suprise suprise they folded shortly after and the players went off to other clubs.
You guys have had it easy ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif) we started with a school changing room and car headlights for training/flasks of soup on really cold nights. We did step up to a leaky roofed portacabin after much fund raising and a fair bit of begging.
Would i do it all again, well not a chance in hell but i treasure those memories and always will.
If i could get involved at any level i would be down at the Spartans like a flash but i can't promise to give 100% and i'm afraid anything less than 100% is not good enough for me.
So thanks but no thanks ![CHEERS icon_cheers.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_cheers.gif)

We've definitely done the car headlights thing! I reckon every amateur club must have done that at some point. We were very lucky with sponsors for our first season - not sure it will be so straightforward next year, things being as they are with in the business world; we haven't had any grant funding at all thus far - just starting that process now - it's painful.
I take your point though - once is perhaps enough for anyone; if you ever fancy a bit of coaching though, you know where we are. ![Thumbs up icon_thumb.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_thumb.gif)

| We got turned over by Brighouse this morning - our lads just didn't turn up and they did; good honest game though, with no niggly stuff or abuse from the sidelines. Fantastic facilities up there by the way, very impressive - exactly what we'd like to end up with!
Just the BARLA Cup games to play now, then we're done for the season; Shaw Cross at home next Sunday - feel free to come down to WYSS and show your support for the amateur game!

| Panthers 12s ground out a good win at dewsbury Celtic 10-24 despite having a depleted squad, plenty of effort from both sides but again the game was spoilt by another referee that seemed intimidated by bigger and more mature players,I'm all for young lads reffing but they should stick to reffing the 9s 10s not teenagers who are full of it.
Another result from the 12s saw stanningley beat lock lane 46-0!! ![Shocked icon_eek.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_eek.gif)

| Panthers 12s were again given the task of playing oulton Vikings and ran out 38-10 winners. Credit oulton who were better than the scoreline suggests and they were well in the game at ht.
Our boys played well in patches but know they will after improve in the coming weeks in the barla cup if they are to threaten the big guns.
Message to the fixture secs sort it out has much has there are some good teams in group 1 it would be nice not to after play the same teams 4/5 times a year. ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)

| Spartans got past Shaw Cross yesterday to reach round 2 of the BARLA Cup; convincing scoreline in the end, but Shaw Cross never stopped coming and played really well - a cracking set of lads who were a credit to their club.

| Cheers Rob,
Ok The Panthers U11s were drawn away at Dewsbury Moore ( a team they had never beaten )
In a game that was full blooded but never actually spilt into nasty both teams can be credited with fine defensive displays, No yard was either asked or given by either side and i can bet less than 10 first time takles were not completed. When you take into account the threat both teams possess in attack that speaks volumes.
On the day the Panthers pack just edged it and left enough broken field to allow the panthers backs to take advantage and edge it 2 tries to one, we also found out our new boy could kick as good as Kevin Sinfield adding 2 very decent conversions that were just enough to take the Panthers into the next round draw.
The Panthers to a man played as well as ive ever seen and played Ades gameplan to a tee, Well done all
Anyone know when the draw is ??

Cant really say suprise as dont know too much about the Yorks teams
Only 4 Hull teams in and one was Beverley v Victoria which could have gone either way.
East Hull are a fairly strong team but they lost to East Leeds and Holderness vikings are a mid table side and got whalloped by Siddal (are they the ones to watch?).
From Hull id say West Hull and Skirlaugh are the obvious 2 to watch out for, but Wyke and Victoria can be good teams if they hit form
