| World Health Organisation, 6 March: "80% of infections are mild or asymptomatic."
Matt Hancock, 22 April one of the very significant challenges of the virus.”
Boris Johnson, PMQs, 8 July,: "one thing nobody knew early on during this pandemic is that the virus was being passed on asymptomatically".
The one thing you have to do with Johnson is pay attention, and look back at what has already been said. If you do, you'll see how big a liar he is.

It wasn't just government setting "p'ss poor example" there were plenty of others (if not more)on the other side of the political divide, but it doesn't suit a leftist view to state this , does it Willzay

| The problem is when you are the person setting the rules the onus is that you actually follow them or it could be seen by many in the population as a kick in the teeth. This is then followed by a SAGE advisor also breaking the rules with his lady friend. The latter at least showed some guilt by resigning whilst the former came up with the lamest excuse they could come up with after falling to realise the effects of what he did or probably he did not care because Johnson would back him regardless.
With power comes responsibility unfortunately the current government and their advisors do not seem to understand this and let’s not even go to the situation of Robert Jenrick who appear to ignore all expectations that come with the job.

In every PMQ he featured he has lied and even when pointed out his defence is to deny it. It is then looked into and surprise surprise he did lie but continues to deny the facts much like his mentor Trump. I have also noticed that regardless of the topic of Starmer’s final question he has a pre prepared statement knowing that he will not be picked up on it.

There should be repercussions for lying in the House of Commons. But that would mean everyone in the Tory Cabinet but Sunak resigning/being sacked.

Be handy if that excuse of a Labour leader had a backbone too what a waste of space he is and as for the shodow chancellor I won't even go there the whole lot bar one or two are a complete shambles.

A little touchy, you do realise how dangerous Johnson is because of his ineptitude and complete lack of ability to run a country. If not ask the families of those who have died unnecessarily because of this or the residents of Tower Hamlets who missed out on 35 million pounds because of the questionable action of a minister.
The job of the opposition is to challenge and question the action of the government where necessary and I guess what you don’t like is that Starmer is finding this quite easy to do with Johnson whose style does not work against him.
If I was you I would fallback on the usual it would be worse under Labour rather than pick fault with someone who is more popular than the current incumbent.

Erm no I have experience of Starmer from a previous life I wouldn't pay him in washers as time goes on you will see. I have personal experience of a family loss as I have previously pointed out on this thread so don't try and use that one I have my views on this and like many of the deaths it was something very difficult to prevent.
If you think Starmer is holding Boris to account then you may not have been subjected to intense performance management and scrutiny again something I have many years of experience.
They have lots of questions which is right and proper but they have no solutions at the moment they are fully paid up members of the Hindsight Regiment.
Starmer an ex barrister should do much better in his forensic questioning but he probably moved to politics because he wasn't very good he was even worse at CPS and he is no better now. As for the shadow chancellor I don't think I seen a poorer performer when in the spot light.
I was a Labour voter most of my life I cannot bring myself to move in their direction anymore it's become a joke as for the Tories they have maximised an opportunity out of a situation where they had one of the worst leaders in history in May preceded by the idiot Cameron. Sadly Labour went too far to the left abandoned their working class values in my opinion and chose an activist as a leader which turned into a disaster did it not? Leaving a clear run for Boris who you have no time for but it is what it is. The Labour party will take years to recover and it will not be soon with your mate in charge!

| I have lost a very close family member so I too am entitled to my views on the handling of this pandemic so you don’t try to use this.
At least Starmer had a job what was Johnson a reporter who was sacked for making up stories to save him having to actually do some work. I guess some group must have thought he did a good job because he was knighted for his work. At least we now know your dislike for Starmer is personal but I doubt any of his perceived shortcomings you hold have resulted in the U.K. having the third highest death rate in the world.

Right now, it's up to Johnson and his party to plot the best course through the current pandemic.
Starmer will be judged if / when he gets his turn in the "big chair" at No 10.
Johnson seems only to have soundbites and enthusiasm and his chancellor, is making all of his Labour predecessors look like tight wads.
We know that there needs to be some serious spending but, Sunak, despite his sympathetic demeanor and willingness to throw money around, seems to be getting extremely frivolous with the public purse.
Two of his new policies would have been ridiculed had they come from a Labour chancellor.
The 50% off eating out (Monday to Wednesday) looks to have come from a "Spoons" flyer ?? and the £1000 return to work bonus ??
There isn't an employer in the country that would take staff back for a grand but, they will be delighted to take the "bonus" for those who were already certain of being re-employed.
They are losing (or maybe have lost) the plot.
Sunak is akin to a euromillions jackpot winner and a long way from a canny chancellor.

| So your defence of Johnson is how good he can lie and you don’t consider that a problem for a man in his position as PM. What stories have I made up regarding this government and particularly Johnson.
You are obviously a supporter please tell me since his election other than going on holiday, sorting out his divorce, arranging a baby shower, allowing an advisor to break their own rules, allow a minister to enable a donor to avoid a law brought in by the Conservatives and to avoid all forms of questions what has he done to assist with the floods and pandemic. He didn’t have the intelligence to avoid those with possible COVID by visiting an hospital and shaking patients hands and then boasting about it.
I don’t understand the blind loyalty you have for him so please explain because all I see is a dangerous buffoon whose only interest is himself.

Starmer got his Knighthood having been head of CPS which is a given for those that do it. He was a Human Rights Lawyer by the way he has also been the Barrister of the year. He worked in a specialist field and that showed later in his career.
No more ping pong from me you have your views I have mine we do not agree end of. I have more things to do in life than debating my views and yours and others I am on no quest on here.

Hopefully you would also apply the repercussions retrospectively to the biggest porkie pie teller ever - Mr Blair.
I doubt its even possible to calculate how many innocent lives were lost because of his lies to the House of Commons.
What do you reckon Wilzay- Manslaughter charges for Blair ??
Politicians across the political spectrum tell lies, always have, always will.

I'm not defending Johnson like you I have no time for the man, I fail to see that just because I don't agree with your constant whinging about him that it's obvious I'm a Tory and Johnson supporter perhaps you would like to quote me, like you and everybody else we have to live with the good and bad of the government of the day, some of us show a bit more maturity in dealing with it even though you and others on here think your harder done to than the rest of us, just one point I'd like to put to you as an ex council house owner, that's you by the way not me, what's your thoughts on the sale of those houses by the Tories under Thatcher

Funnily enough it was Labour in 2009 that commissioned the report into HS2 and Labour in 2010 with Alistair Darling, then chancellor, approving it.
Then Darling back tracked in 2013 and said it was a terrible idea blah blah and it should be scrapped.
Just can't trust them politicians!!!

The Labour government set up a company in 2009 to investigate the viability of HS2 but was it not Justine Greening in 2012 who provided confirmation to proceed to parliament and the suggested routes.

Summed him up in the best entry yet on the later pages this thread, Scarlet. Simply put, but to the point and 100%accurate. I wish I could have put it so succinctly myself. Bravo.

Ok,I will rephrase.
The original idea was Labours and the first phase was approved (in principle) in 2010 by then Chancellor Darling.
Yep Justine Greening did her bit for the coalition government in 2012.

| In principle is different from approving isn’t it. The problem with your argument is that what he is saying yes it sounds a good idea but let’s see how it can be done. It was this part that was initially passed by the coalition later upheld by the Conservatives.
All you can accuse Labour of is setting up the initial process the rest is down entirely to the coalition and the Conservative government’s who agreed the direction, costs and administration of completing the task. If this appears to now be shambolic and expensive the fault lies with the coalition and conservatives.
I believe once the plan was presented by the coalition Darling and many others thought it was too expensive and badly constructed.
