I don't want saving IF we win, mate... I need someone to get me and the family out of here if we lose. I reckon I could handle winning, rare experience though it is these days.

Not sure I agree fully with the amount but Cas fans have had Karma coming their way for a long time now.'"
More good publicity for Cas. Saw a programme on telly when I was home recently about gay men and women in sport. Thomas was interviewed and mentioned the incident again there.
Have to say, I do feel a bit sorry for the club. A few idiots have really dragged them through the mud over the last year or so. Don't know what efforts Cas have made to prevent these individuals from attending games in the meantime. Hope they've been successful, though. The sport doesn't need them around.

| Can anyone tell me what its like in Fitzwilliam? Is it somewhere you would consider living or not?
Same goes for Ryhill, and Havercroft?
Or Ackworth?
Cheers....

I personally wouldn't live in Fitzwilliam, Ryhill or Havercroft.
They are pretty rough.
May consider Ackworth.

First reaction was "bandit country", but that may be a little unfair.
I reckon Ackworth is the pick of the bunch. Certainly used to be a nice place, but I haven't been there for years. Ryhill used to be a great little village as well, but I don't hear a lot of good news coming from there now.
Can't really comment on the other 2, but as Wildthing says, Fitzy certainly has a bit of a rough reputation.

fitzy is a true mining village as is kinsley, hemsworth area, I had loads of workmates that lived in or around and you wouldn't find it difficult to find a welcoming pub as it was a close knit community, ackworth is tends to be more pricey though
if you need any more advice give me a pm as I should be able to point you in the right direction even though I haven't lived there for about 13 yr,
kinsley has a good dog track if you like greyhounds

ackworth is by far a nicer village to live and you can't get away from the links that paint a picture in your head,
my aunt and uncle used to live on mulburry and I just lived off mill lane but you can't tar and feather all the community,
I live in wrenthorpe which also gets its yobs resently setting fire to seat benches so now is free from crime or violence, majority is adolescence wouldn't you agree

If you can wait a few months there may be some cheap properties coming up on Newmarket Lane
Good luck with the move. My sister ended up living in Cas because the prices were so high in Stanley. Anything which is commuter belt to Leeds has rocketed in the last 5-7 years. Shop around and don't be afraid to put an initial very low offer in, you never know until you try.

I saw that programme too and I thought RL came out of it pretty well tbh. The fact that there hasn't been a soccer player who has come out in the last 20-odd years is truly amazing - and wholly un-realistic.
If you read the full report though, Cas have been found wanting when it comes to dealing with the issue - both on the day and subsequently - and that is a large part of the problem and the reason they have forfieted the the cash from last years problem.
I hate to say it, but I would be worried about what might happen at BV given previous dealings with stewards - or rather their non-dealings - over such as foul and abusive language when children are around - not the odd swear word, but a total rant! In fairness though, that was the previous stewarding company, so this current lot may be a lot better.
Our club could well do without any of these type of fines!

I will stick up for Ryhill though and say the Nostel Priory side is a wonderful area, it's like a different world. My sister has an house there and she's never heard a peep!
The problem is with Mulberry and Ryhill in general that there are 2 or 3 large families and I've not heard many positives. My partner and I have 2 friends living in the Mulberry area and they are totally genuine people but other people living nearby make their life miserable. There is a huge gang in the area causing trouble for everyone and they aren't what I'd call kids either. They range from 13-22yo but most are probably 18yo.

| Thanks for all the location guides, and crime reports too! It certainly makes interesting reading, I am coming up from Wolverhampton, which certainly isn't on the top of the 'Best Area' guide lists, I had an mad axeman living one side for a while, lithuanians who answered the door to police with a live handgrenade further down the road, and a burglar next door! So I don't mind a 'lively' area, you find scallys most places, scallys are scallys. I'm sure Wakey as a whole is much better than what I have become used to, certainly comparing the reports in the Wakey Express compared to the Wolves Express&Star.
How would those places (Fitzwill'm, Ryhill, Ackworth, etc) match up against places nearer town such as Crigglestone (Painthorpe Ln - how long ago did Painthorpe school get knocked down?), or the outskirts of Lupset (either end of George-a-Green Rd)?
Thanks once again.

| Horbury is ok if you have a garage, I lived there 25 years and only really suffered at the hands of car crime. My dad lives in Middlestown and says that is very quiet. Areas of Ossett seem ok. Crigg seems ok, had a good mate who lived there. Sadly passed on in his early teens.

My girlfriend lived in Fitzy for a while (amongst Cas and Hull lol) she said they pulled down the roughest area. It's seems a very small place to be honest, I know the chippy on the main road had all their windows put through last year. The pizza place seems to have had their sign vandalised.

| Just got back from the Jane Tomlinson 'Run for All' in Leeds; Mrs Bren2k was taking part, so we all went to support her.
Big Barry Mac was one of the runners and my lad spotted him heading towards the start line and got all excited - 'Dad, Dad, can we talk to him?' I approached Barry and said, 'My lad's a big fan - can he shake your hand?' Barry was great with him - shook hands, ruffled his hair and on spotting his Wakey shirt, said he thought that we'd smash HKR this afternoon. Top bloke - made my lads day.
p.s the Mrs beat him over 10k!
