| Quote ="Belle Vue"I don’t think we’ve always got our overseas recruitment wrong..Fifita Arona tupou more recent players who have served the club well. And chucking money at billy big bucks from Australia doesn’t guarantee you a higher league position (as wire fans about that)
I don’t disagree with you regarding this season’s players, the overseas recruiting has been poor and we’re not getting value out of them. Coupled with some English based players it’s left us struggling to compete..
The single biggest problem we have faced in my opinion was the reduction in sky money( half million I think) this problem has tipped us over the edge. With no funds to make up the shortfall and the poor recruitment we now see that filtering out onto the field.
I think the the club have been on the lookout for investment.. but who in their right mind was ever going to invest in a club who’s ground looked like it had taken incoming shelling adding the fact that we didn’t own it and then the ongoing debt issues.. these are all problems that have been addressed (not completely but addressed)
Unfortunately a backer has not been forthcoming but you can’t say to the board…. Well you will have to stump up some more money… they may either not want to or doesn’t have the fund to..
But …. And think this is probably the most important thing now. the above is being addressed, it makes us more attractive should someone be interested in investing . Should we drop into the championship ( which at the moment I think is very likely ) we will have a chance to fight our way back up..
We could have thrown a lot of money we didn’t have to try and elevate the situation with no guarantee it would pay off …. Then end up still being relegated ….. and starting in The championship in debt and rudderless (ask Bradford bulls fans about that!)
Everyone who posts on here mate wants the best for our club .
I’m gutted this morning as I’m sure all others will be..
We just have different opinions on how our problems should be addressed..
All I would say is keep supporting the club even if you don’t agree about how it’s being run..'"
A well thought out response BV.....and I am being genuine when I say that!

| Quote ="Slugger McBatt"People need to get a grip!
A well-run club with an ability to increase income is going to get relegated. It's happened to other clubs. Now, it's our turn. Like it happened to Leigh. Look at them now!
It's how we cope with it that counts, and I think we'll do okay.
Maybe what's been missing is a lack of imagination in terms of how to increase money, or a willingness to take risks, but Glover was full of that hot air too.
Applegarth has turned out to be a bad move. However, from the outside last year, it did seem like he had a part in the uplift last year. Turns out it was a false dawn and they have to get someone new in.
But I'd rather be relegated with Minards in charge than whoever might replace him. But it often seems like the criticism of Carter is about personal vendettas rather than an objective view of how he has managed the club. He can only put together what finances will allow, with players who are willing to sign up for never winning anything in poor surroundings.
For me, the villains are Yorkcourt. We should be way ahead of where we are now in relation to the ground, years ahead, and if you live life by dodging bullets, eventually you get hit by one.
And for the record, I don't know MC, have never met him, and have no connection with him. I just prefer stability to bankruptcy.'"
Some maybe vendetta's but as time goes on, there are more and more, as someone who has saved the club, he has a lot of vendettas against him, you do start to wonder
I have always tried to be as constructive as I can, whilst being critical. If people look back, I have in the past praised his efforts. He was what we needed in 2013, but in reality, I think he should have only been a short term fix.
People use the word respect a lot in life, but I was brought up with the morals that respect is a two way street, and it needs earning, but can also be lost.
He has verbally lashed out in the past on social media, and on here, myself included, and then to have another dig in front of other fans in Perpignan, back in 2019.
Sadly from that day on, he lost all the respect I had for him.

| It's ok comparing us to other teams that have been relegated in the past such as leigh and how well they are doing now but the difference is as I understand it there will be no promotion at the end of next season. So we will be down and no way back. Correct me if I'm wrong.

we sacked Chester because he won something like 2 in 18 games, his time was up

Agree tbh, maybe with the exception of Minnards who has actually managed to make progress on the ground.
The squad Carter has put together this season is unacceptable really. Proctor and Atoni offer less than nothing, Dagger is poor (and we lost our only exciting young player to gt him in), Smith also contributes nothing. Langi the only signing who has looked semi-useful. Yes the central funding has been cut and it effected us massively, but I find it hard to believe with our budget a better squad could not have been put together. Having less funding just makes the recruitment/retention mistakes more impactful. A well run club would not be crying poverty one minute and offering Proctor a lucrative deal the next.
On Proctor btw it was genuinely sad to see the crowd turn on him yesterday. I think he tries, his body just can't play rugby anymore. Atoni on the otherhand..
Mash and Ford I felt sorry for initially, and still do to an extent for the squad they are working with. That said, even with poor players we could look well coached, and we don't. We don't have an attacking structure at all really, and our end of sets when on the opponents line are pathetic - it really does make you wonder what they work on through the week? Its also baffling as to why Proctor and Atoni are still getting picked, neither look useful or capable of playing many minutes, yet we have Eseh not making the squad. Butler offered more

| Salford don't have a rich owner or big crowds but always see to put a decent squad together. That's because they have people the club who can spot a good player and do the research rather than just watch a highlights reel. Look at the highlights reels of Tafua and Atoni and they look world beaters!

No doubt they get some gems from the NRL and are getting a lot out of players previously written off (sounds familiar in years gone by) but there are good reasons as to how they have the squad they have when they don't have rich backers. 1, no academy, 2, don't pay the full rent due on the stadium and 3 have just asked for a £350k loan to cover operational costs.
There is probably £500k right there, enabling them to secure Broady Croft for 8 years.
Salford are a great team, and are great to watch, but as a club they are teetering on the edge.

Salford (or another club) going pop is the only thing that could save us this season.
We have a mid table Championship side, playing League 1 RL just now.
The club looks to be slowly running out of steam, it's awful, absolutely awful,
To hear that we're now targeting the French League for recruitments, says everything about our current state, lack of ambition and certain relegation.

Chris Chester won 12 out of his his last 54 games against super league opposition. The only mistake was not getting shut of him earlier before he did more damage by leaving us stuck with some awful players.

Correct. He's only looking good at Leigh because of Beaumont's money and the fact he's not the coach,
Unfortunately, we still have the legacy from Chester at Wakefield, in Gaskell and Lineham.
Somebody mentioned earlier we are also still paying him for the contract agreed with him before he left.
He hasn't come out of it too bad has he?

I'm pretty sure he isn't....but I don't actually know.
1) he was offered a year extension that was then paid even though sacked. He's been gone more than a year.
2) the money didn't come from Wakefield Trinity so hasn't cost 'us' anything.

| I see in the programme notes that once again we the supporters have to do our bit and not to exude negativity. The problem is he forgot the part the board are suppose to play in providing a team that enables a mere modicum of hope rather than the drivel we are served. I wish him good luck in convincing the supporters to remain positive and back the team regardless.
I am sorry but he had a chance to put together a squad worthy of the RWB or whatever colours we have but this was missed on the altar of prudence. This was the one season when our survival in SL was at its greatest but their understanding was usurped by the urge of all accountants to save money.
When they move on I will still be a supporter because that is what we do.

Which also looks, when you try and think for "transparency", as a former employee of the club, shouldn't any kind of severance/disbursement fee be paid by the club.'"
It wasn't severance pay. He didn't sign the contract. Carter paid him out of goodwill as they'd verbally agreed before the results and fans turned.
I don't have any evidence but that's how I understood it.
But it's all moot. He has been gone more than a year.

Well there seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors around all of this.
I do know how much chester was paid on his first contract, quite a good sum. If Carter has paid him out of his own pocket, then thats his business. However, the sum involved is significant and if it had gone on the team budget it would have helped for sure. Like I said, Carter business but he shouldnt then turn around and try and cover up all his failures with the excuse we have no money.

Supported Wakefield for 20 years now. Me and my Dad (who has a platinum membership) have travelled up to almost every home game during that period. We have witnessed many poor patches of form in that time, but this is distinctly different to anything we have seen before. The lack of effort along with direction (game plan) is obvious to see. We now go to games not even hoping for a win but simply to see if we can score a point is where we have got to. The fact that the coach is still in place is truly astonishing. It seems as though the board have the same lack of effort/fight that we see in the team. To do nothing in this circumstance is as baffling as it is deflating. With every game that passes we get cut further adrift and is one less game for any new coach to have the opportunity change the culture and tac tics that may give us at least a glimmer of hope. Sheffield Eagles for me next year....at least they try...oh and they have an assistant coach there called Paul Broadbent...you know...a man who along with Kear did a great job at Wakefield...a man with SL experience as a player and coach...a man with international coaching experience with Italy...a man with presence and integrity........a man who has a mobile phone...that can take calls from the 01924 area.
