| To be fair as one who still frequents on a saturday night,i see very little trouble to be honest.
Far worse in 80's,as previously stated gangs from around city.Lupset/outwood/streethouse and normy were always fighting each other. Not to mention the geordies/mackems one of which
would always call in town on there way back north.
I can remember being trapped in black rock with a dozen or more punters with a gang of geordies being attacked by leeds fans, well scary.

| Quote ="Tommy Duckfingers"Moore was simply in the background from the pics, no harm done at all. With regards to programme in general, whilst I appreciate its a nightmare job policing down town and they face a huge amount of provication at times the Police (well, 1 particular officer: "He's spitting at me, the dirty b*st*rd"icon_wink.gif could have handled things a lot more proffesionally and he was the main reason the strangely rather tasty ginger WPC got one in the mush.
Just shows you what sort of s some people turn into when they have ale inside them, particularly the bell end who was making a complaint about somebody cracking him and didnt want to wait and ended up getting done for D&D. Christ knows how he faired on the front line in Helmand if he couldt handle a bit of aggro in the pie shop!'"
Yes, that one officer, was a right drama queen or was playing up to the cameras. That other kid who came to make a complaint and ended up getting arrested, made himself look a right fanny.

| Cheers all for the responses. Points taken and I'll try not to be as hysterical when thinking about Westgate as in the OP.
I tend to think of Westgate in quite a negative light because its not really my sort of scene and because the last time I went there, which was about six years ago, I got my drink spiked in Quest. I remember very, very little about the night, but what I do remember is finding the Trinity squad, hugging Korki and telling him that "He was doing wonders at the club" over and over again. Horrible night.

| Quote ="bren2k"In respect of the Coppers programme; I've enjoyed some of it, but I don't think it's showed them in a particularly good light. The traffic ones in particular came across really badly, but then they always do.'"
I think the lay out of that episode was brilliant. The first half of the episode played into this stereotypical view of the police as fat, thuggish, idiots who just want to arrest everyone, where the second half of the episode highlighted why they are so stern and ignorant of folk who try to bend the law on the road. They're the ones who deal first hand with incidents on the roads and they're the ones who clean up the mess and deal with those effected. So, they know you don't get second chances if you do something wrong on the road at the wrong time and they're all too aware of the deep emotional effects they have.
I find it more comforting to know there's a bunch of mini-Hitler's patrolling the motorways keeping folk in line than the softly-softly diplomatic bobby on the beat coppers who will have a good chat with someone whose done wrong rather than arrest them.

Spot on there mate!
Apart from when they're on that Road Wars programme and they chase some "businessman" miles up the motorway watching him weaving from lane to lane at >90mph then pull him over reprimand him for being naughty and tell him to not do it again and "mind how you go sir"

i enjoyed the programme and i think what you saw can be seen in any town across brittain on any saturday night.

I don't agree; the attitude and demeanour of many traffic officers is so poor that even other coppers hate them. I believe that was even referenced on the programme.
Overall though, I agree that the police do a thankless job in tough circumstances and I respect those individual officers who do it well.

Yes a shame he could not show that aggression to the opposition on the pitch instead of female officers.

Yes if you watch that whole scene again the copper makes up a story , nicks the bloke rembers there are cameras and changes it again.
After the miners strike the reputation of the police was left in tatters and all the regular stories about police misbehaviour now just feed into that.
The biggest problem in the Police is not that there are a few bad coppers but the culture that freates them an dlets them think they can get away with anything

I must have watched a different program to you, as for the male officer the threat of assault i.e spitting is assault (sec 39 ) the fact that its blood and spit/saliva is a disgrace if someone spat at you what would your response be ? given that anyone could have a contagious disease.
As for the culture of the police " THEY THINK THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING" what planet are you on ? do you know the law of this country ?how do you know what they can get away with or are you just surmising because your unsure ! in a previous post I stated one thing the police are watched night and day by there own !
The program achieved what it set out to do place people in a bad light and sell advertising and that's what it did !
as for the reaction of the people of Wakefield I like many feel ashamed of the dim witted drunken s who take up time with petty squabbles, while the police are reacting to drunken stupidity the are not proactively dealing with other crime and we are paying for that in our taxes.
Its only my opinion

Every incident he was involved in, that they showed, he escalated them to a place that was not needed. The funny thing I noticed was, that the incident where those 2 idiots got arrested and his lady Pc got one in the face, when you pause the incident, when it happened, it was actually him that had his hand wrapped round her face pulling on it and actually caught her in the nose.

I would be very annoyed if someone spat at me I also wouldn't find it particularly nice if someone spat on the floor in front of me but I don't think it would provoke rage in me. Now appreciate what the police have to put up with and the program highlighted this however the lack of control shown by the officer in this situation did worry me. The guy clearly did not spit in his face but as he dragged him across the road he kept repeating that he was a dirty this and that for spitting at him. When he reached the van having calmed down he then decided he was a dirty so and so for spitting on the floor.

I totally agree and can understand why the coppers get fed up of drunken idiots carrying on and causing bother. What the program did show was that if you listen and walk away then that's fine but it's the totally morons that can't let it go who get locked up.
