| Would be a good fit at Hull KR. Young players and a top coach. A natural replacement for Ben Cockayne.

I'd love to see someone get out of him what people believe to be there, and for us if that was going to happen. I just can't see it with JK here, as he hasn't shown enough to get past the history.
Cas was probably his chance to show it and he ended up at Leigh, and on Saturday he had a damn fine game in the position that doesn't seem to be his number one choice.

From what I gather and it is just bits of gossip I have to be honest is that the issue was between Hampshire father and JK. There is no history between the player, CC and the club as far as I know.
Both JK and you would assume as the boy is now a man that both are more peripheral than before. To put it a better way, Ryan is old enough to make his own mind up and CC and MC don't need JK's approval to make their own minds up.
I believe his ambition by the way is not to be a FB and or a winger but a HB so I suspect he'll go with whom ever dangles that carrott.

| He played 33 games in 2 seasons at Wigan, around the same time as Williams and Matty Smith. Not a bad return really, and at a period where Wigan were successful.
It would be interesting to know how many of these games he played in the halves.
Sure that it is only since he went out on loan to Castleford, he started playing in the backs.
At only 22-23 still got plenty of time on his side, to make a h/b spot his own, and regarding history, they do say time is a healer.
For me, he would certainly be worth a punt, even if for 2017 it is as cover.

| Id say he is definitely worth a punt. Local lad who has tried and maybe not failed but definitely not stood out at other clubs. Sounds like a good fit for us.
Unless we can get O'Brien from Salford whilst they are flogging folk off, I would be happy with Rocky as our other halfback option.

| Could be a target for them, yes, though hasn't he already expressed that full back is not a favourable position for him.
If he was providing cover in the halves say, for us, he could potentially step into the role permanently once Finn hangs his boots up.
I can't really see Finny doing 30 games in a season for much longer to be honest, like he has for the past 2 seasons. He may do it one more year, but hard to see beyond that

A lad like Hampshire, with speed, bottle, and plenty of willingness - mentored and coached by a player like Finn... could be just what he needs to step out of his transient phase and nail down a position.

| FWIW as a Wigan fan the best game I saw him play for us was at stand off after Williams pulled up in the warm up.
At U15/16 Hampshire and Williams were outstanding playing as a pair. Both could organise and run good support lines, usually Hampshire backing up Williams half breaks. Very reminiscent of Edwards and Gregory. When they moved up to the Academy they started to play as split halves rather than a pair and Hampshire became less effective. They then tried to convert him to a full back in the Sam Tomkins mode at the expense of Lewis Tierney. This was the point when the bust ups started to come.

| Is it just me or if this signing to good to be true. With this lad on board we would be incredibly strong- way stronger than any Trinity side I can recall. Makes you wonder how the hell we got him and how the hell we've got the team we have.
If true it's absolutely stunning - doesn't mean success is guaranteed - but stunning all the same.

| To be fair wasn't there a bit of animosity between Kear and Hampshire's dad? Is it to simplitic to suggest with his departure a move to Trinity is a little more palatable to the family?

| A good lad to have in our squad if it does come off.
Obviously, with JK leaving it left some money free and with us only having Finn & Miller as out and out halves (although we could have managed), that has swung it. He'll get a chance at some point to play in his preferred position and may back himself on eventually making it is own, especially as Finny isn't getting younger. If we have signed him, it isn't to play FB because we're quite rich in that department.

I am a massive fan of Ryan, even though I live in Australia I keep a close eye on his progress and he has had a rough time off the field which may have affected his form over the last 12 months.
But I have always rated him higher than George Williams and I stand by that, hopefully he will get the chance to show his quality if it is true that he has signed at Wakey.

I think far to much is made of this. I've met his dad a couple of times and rather like myself he comes across better in the flesh. He certainly had issues with JK but they didn't seem so severe that he'd try to stop his son playing under him. That's assuming he still has that much influence over his now 22 year old son.
I suspect it was a money issue if there is any substance in the stories. I suspect Trinity wanted a one year suck it and see deal whilst Ryan probably wanted a more secure deal over perhaps 2-3 years, Understandable from both parties. Perhaps the JK deaparture has now allowed a compromise to be reached - but it's pure speculation on my part.

| Pretty much agree there Shifty. Miller and Finn will still no doubt be first choice, I'm sure but Funny getting no younger, so I would like to think he'd want to nail down the spot for himself.
One thing worth considering is that our two oldest players were the only players involved in the world cup. You have to ask the question, how much will they have left in the tank towards the latter part of the season. The older you get, it gets harder to recover from previous games.
Would not be surprised to see Finn and Grix plaguing a few less games, which will give chance to other younger players to stake a claim. They're good enough. It is a healthy place to be right now.
Hopefully he will get game time in the friendlies partnering Miller in the halves
