I've got to agree with you on this one Starbug. Running a SL club on essentially a loss making business (made even more so with bad management). In it's current format the majority of clubs are always going to lose money over the long term. It's the big pink Elephant in the room that no one wants to debate in the game. It's seem they are happier believe in wild speculative business plans than cold hard numbers. Who ever comes up next in reality will need a good half Million in cash to cover any potential losses.

Makes you wonder doesn't it. Lets hope he can convince us and the wider fan base thats not the case.

I'd suggest 80 quid per season ticket sold last season, possibly the same again this year, plus the costs of your roofs

Is there anybody out there that has a magic formula that can build a small/medium sized club in a minority regional struggling sport? , that of course without chucking millions into the pot beforehand

It really does require new thinking and probably making decision unpopular with fans, and a lot of work completely seperate from the reasons people get involved, most new investors/owners are looking for a change from the mundane running of a normal business, they want the ' Sexy ' possibly even the local hero feel, but it is the boring normal work that is needed

Bad practice for Chairman to post on here. Inviting unnecessary hassle for himself and the end result might not be pretty. Just my opinion Mr Carter, you've enough on your plate.

For me, the person responsible for running the day to day operations needn't be a 'sports' business manager - just a business manager; there are plenty of them around and, for the right incentives, they could be attracted into the game. For a professional manager, a sports club could be a refreshing change and a new challenge.

Longer term, perhaps the sport itself could take some initiative and start growing future leaders; start a genuine development programme to attract professionals who don't have the skewed perspective of a former player, a fan or an idealistic multi-millionaire. RL has far too many unqualified boneheads in crucial leadership positions - have a quick peek up at Red Hall to verify that statement.

In the short term, it does appear that for now at least, WTW has someone at the helm who is prepared to make unpopular decisions for the greater good; painful as it may be, long may it continue.

Spot on, exactly how I see things, the sport is the sport, and the business is the business , they require different skills, but all too often you get people from one side looking after the issues of the other
