| get rid of JD, come on lets get serious. JD is in top 3 tackle busts in super league, top 15 tacklers in super league and is one of our leading metre makers. Our middle got murdered yesterday and imo we massively missed Jd and fergy work rate in the middle. Moore, pitts bibb, and scullthorpe are all lazy defenders this whu it was so easy to spot drew and obst over and over again. our front row got bullied and yet when jd came in field he had no problem making yards.
imo jd has been a rock in the middle of the field for us and when we had injuries has covered hooker, stand off, second row, centre and loose forward.
yesterday he looked good at centre then we decided not to give anymore ball, but what did Jd do went looking for work.
We all have opinions but mine are backed up by facts.

While all you write is true, some won't see it that way because, in their minds, Demetriou will should play forever for this club and always be in a job. It is sport, as you say. It is a harsh business, and even if he's done this, that and the other after the tragic events....we have to put out a team week in, week out who can compete at the highest level.
Too many times in the past we've offered players one contract too many out of sympathy....sometimes the best for all, before the memories are tarnished, is to just say goodbye.

Have to agree with that JD always gives 110% on the pitch and is a perfect ambassador for the club. He earns his coin every game and is usually the standout player on the pitch, no way should he be leaving us yet!!

Decent enough argument!
I know JD well enough and have known him long enough (since his early Widnes days) to know that he won't want to play for any longer than his body will allow. If he felt he could give value for money for a full season he will say so and push for another years contract and his word would be good enough for me.
I have too much respect for him to start stating facts that support a different view to yours because as they say there's lies damn lies and then theres statistics. You can make them say or support anything you want.
Suffice to say that JD is worth every penny he gets, every minute on the pitch he's allowed and his true value isn't measured by stats.
I just don't want him to play one season too many.

To some of the others,
We are all supporters of Trinity thats why we come on these boards.
Some have been supporters for five minutes some of us have been involved for decades, (34 years in my case).
I measure my opinions based on my knoweledge of the game, fine if you don't agree just ignore me or enter a proper debate.
However some of you need to buy a rah rah skirt and try out for the cheerleaders squad.
I wear the colours, go home and away, support the lads at every game, never booo, never walk early whatever the score, I've done lots more with and for Wakefield Trinity, My point being that I understand the passion behind blindly supporting the team but we need to improve thats the harsh reality of sport.'"
I know, I agree with you. It's just annoying when people don't like threads about us not playing too well when we clearly are not playing to our full potential.

| i think for wakey to progress you'll need a good stand off. Think that your forwards need tweeking especially the front row, where i think you look a bit light compared to some other clubs. Also i cant see the point of keeping drew, obst and latu. Think one will have to go, but which one is the problem. Also think rooney has come to the end of his wakey career.
Saying that, i think your a good team with a very good team spirit, hope you can pick your current mini slump up. Kear is a very good coach, and you have a smattering of good young players, especialy ferguson, wish we had him.

Agreed, some people do come up with some good points. But the point is when we go in the mid season slump or loss of form what ever you want to cal it then there is always going to be come negative threads which will out weigh the positive ones.

Soon as we get Stosic and Bibey back we should be fine in the forwards. That is of course if we they play how they were before injury.

Blaymire - But where's your attacking flair gone?
Blanch - Done enough to stay despite being injured a lot
Atkins - Look for work lad and learn to put the winger away
Gleeson - Got the goods but need some beleif, man up fella!
Murphy - Almost in the not sure catagorie but has time on his side
George - Time to deliver on your huge potential!
Brough - Don't take it for granted Danny!
Stosic - We're missing you!
Moore - Don't lose the explosive side of your game
Ferguson - Keep up the progress Dale, people are noticing you!
Snitch - Impressive return to Trinity and now a 1st choice player
Pitts - Done well but don't forget to excell! Don't settle for being average.
Sculthorpe - Xfactor and enforcer and also has immense experience
Wilkes - Hard work and honesty in spades
Where are the experienced heads, the leaders, those who have been there done that and can help out the younger lads?
We need JD, Drew and Martin at the minute. To suggest we should get rid of all these players and replace them with 22/23 year olds would be reckless in my opinion. The key to any squad is balance, young or old!

I'd class Stosic, Sculthorpe and maybe even Blanch as experienced. I omited Martin by mistake so you can add him to the keep list.
Broughy is 27 next year and should be someone that guides the team around especialy being a pivot.
I'm not suggesting that we get rid of players now but rather at the end of then season. Neither am I suggesting that we only bring in 22 & 23 year olds, they're just a few suggestions, we should also be looking to use some of the freed up salaries to bring in some top class tallent that would help us go to the next level.
Whether you like it or not it's part of the process of change that players should leave and new ones brought in, its just that I beleive we have quite a number of players who need to move on.
JD as I've said earlier (I presume you've bothered to read the thread before posting) should be kept in some capacity.

| Think Drew will go at end of year, and so might be wise to get some cash if we can. I still think there's another year in JD, and I would keep Sam. I thought Peterson had an okay game yesterday.
The player I can't fathom out is Blaymire. I think he is great as a fullback, but offers nothing in attack. Grix in that position would offer a lot in attack, but isn't great in that position. Maybe Rooney would be the compromise at the back, but we don't have a proper stand-off. Sam was supposed to be there yesterday, but he seemed to play his normal game as far as I could see.

JD is contracted for 2010 has been since middle of last season. So far so good body wise, stats are strong, leadership excellent and commitment fulproof. If the situation changes he will retire and come back home.
He wont need prodding i can assure you all of that.

| I can't agree with you regarding Sculthorpe and Blanch as experienced heads (Stosic i can't comment on). That's not to say i don't rate either. But they don't have the same big game experience that for instance Drew has.
JD for me has been one of our most consistent players this season. On the basis of his performances he should get another year for me that's if he wants to continue playing.
I have no problem with players coming or going, John Kear has shown he knows who and what he needs. The one thing however Kear is keen on is continuity. I find it hard to suggest that he would want to have a massive clear out.
Everyone wants to see top class talent however for that to happen at Wakefield it would mean a smaller squad with less leaders. That for me is a gamble which i wouldn't want to see. We have a good squad packed with youngsters, i'd rather not see money tied up in a top class talent which could have been used to improve our youngsters contracts.
Everyone wants success but as a club i think we need to be realistic. Invest in the young coupled with one or two experienced heads and in Brough we have a quality player.

JD has got himself into that special place where he is loved by all Wakefield fans. He will have the occasional bad game, and his body may eventually give up on him, but his commitment to the cause is without question, and he is great ambassador to the club.
If you think of rugby in terms of decades, in this decade there have been some very good players who have passed through Wakefield, but most have done that, just passed through. When fans look back on this decade, JD's will be the name that will always get the round of applause. It's good to know that we have got him until he finishes, and if he does go home, he will get a fond farewell from everyone.
It would be great to see him lift some silverware before he goes, and it is for people like JD that yesterday is saddest for, because the chances start to run out.

| Fed up reading idiotic posts about JD. He is our most committed and consistent quality player. I have seen no signs of him deteriorating at all. Of course when he retires the club should look to him to help build a bright future but its ridiculous to even think about that now. He is our captain, consistently our best player and a absolute nightmare to play against because he will beat you all ends up. Why are some people obsessed with age - its all about performance and he is a stand out player. 1st on the team sheet every week and long may it continue.

Agreed for Demetriou, based on current form - but the other 2 I would have to think much longer about.
Can't see Drew going on for much longer (and cannot imagine him being cheap), I would also be undecided on Sam but thats probably as much sentiment as anything else. I think it's harsh but I would probably have to say thanks for all the effort, but the time has come for us both to move on, unless you could get him for next to nothing of course.
