Out if interest, it matters not if Owen had a foot in touch before the penalty to Cas. In RL, penalties are given for foul play (high tackle on Owen) even if the ball is dead. In this instance, the foul play over-ruled the tehnicality of Owen going into touch, so therefore a correct decision was a penalty to Castleford.

Had the touch judge been quick enough with the flag then there would have been no need for Semi to make the next tackle.

That’s my take on it. Owen stumbles as Tadulala is executing a tackle. Had Owen stayed on his feet the tackle would’ve been around the chest/waist.

Tadulala was well and truly committed to the tackle as Owen's foot went into touch, the TJ raising his flag would have made no difference.
On the topic of the tackle being a penalty there was clearly contact with the head. Technically, it doesn't matter whether Owen was 'ducking' or not, contact with the head is a penalty. It's like saying you can't give a penalty for a high tackle on Rob Burrow because he is only four-feet tall.
It was technically and clearly the correct decision.

Not technically, no. The foul play is "contact with the neck or head", regardless of the ball-carriers body position.

Have to say after watching the game on TV because could not get to the game, I thought Wakefield were unlucky on the night and as I watched them take a 12 nil lead after 3 minutes I was worried for Cas.

On reflection I have to agree with the poster who said a draw would have been a good result.

If you can get Tongia to hold the ball in both hands and not at arms length, then I think you will have a useful fullback for next season. Is Henderson signed on for you guys next year as well. Think with him and Rinaldi along with Morrison you have some good experienced players to help with the youth development.

Forgot to mention Tongia - yes he made one howler, but I thought he defended well and looked really lively with ball in hand; with a good off-season, I'm convinced he'll offer something at FB that we haven't seen at WTW for quite some time.

I predict however that he'll be one of those players who goes from hero to zero on a weekly basis, given his unpredictability and willingness to take risks.

Probably guilty of trying too hard but he's definitely worth a look pre-season, give him a couple of friendlies to settle down in. Certainly exciting to watch though hard on the heart.

Semi's challenge might have been high but was neither intentional, nor reckless nor careless. For what it's worth it was also a powder puff of a clip that even I would have survived without too much effect.

Okay, we were lucky. Maybe a draw would have been a fair result.
I still think the penalty was correct, Tadulala made contact with Owen's head/neck (carelessley IMO) but it was contact with the head, and therefore a penalty (which over-rides Owen going into touch).
I also think we were lucky to keep McGoldrick on the field after his 'DDT' tackle, how he has not got a ban I don't know.
Good game, and proof that SL is better with both teams involved.
