Puts some perspective on things doesn't it - when we stand on the sidelines baying for big hits and calling players soft; their careers can be over in a heartbeat, and their lives changed forever.

It’s a real catch22 and the downside to most sports but especially contact sports like RL. Players know the risks but all the same, you can’t help but wince when they get life-threatening injuries like this for what in essence is a form of entertainment.

What can you do? Not much really.

You can make the game as safe as possible with rules and medical care but at the end of the day RL is a tough game, that’s its appeal and take to much of that away and you don’t have a game.

There are two schools of thought. Those people who believe you should remove all forms of risk from life even though that’s impossible as shown by the sheer randomness of this injury. Those who think you should take your chances and live for the moment and to hell with the consequences,

They are both utter tosh and as ever the truth is in the grey area. Life has to be life, you can’t sanitise it to the point where nobody ever gets hurt either physically or emotionally. You can, however, set limits and offer care and support to those who pay the ultimate price.

I think RL does this pretty well these days though there is always room for improvement. I’m really sorry for Masoe, it’s terribly bad luck and nobody deserves that but then very few people do deserve the bad things that happen to them, life is still as cruel as ever given the chance.

Still, no need for recriminations, the lad was doing something he loved, the sport gave him a lot but sometimes there are casualties.

We must, however, rally round and help him through as best we can, we owe him and all the others that, they earn it that’s for sure.

So Alex Walker got carried off tonight with what looks like an ankle injury and ditto for Yusuf Aydin.....we are already missing Jordie Crowther and George King and I got told that Chris Green and Adam Tangata have both picked up serious knocks in Spain that are likely to keep them out for a few weeks

I hope not. With king, fifita and Arona out we can’t afford any more props on the treatment table. That’s what derailed 2019 season.

Forgive me if I’m wrong but this is a squad game. Wither the exception of the newly promoted youngsters all players should be able to compete at SL level.

I don’t know if your facts are true but rarely is the injury situation ever as bad as the rumour mill makes out.

So no excuses imo, certainly not at the start of the season. We can still put out a squad of 17 experienced SL players well capable of winning.

We are certainly not as badly off as some teams, most notably HKR.

If we keep looking for an injury crisis then we will find one, it will become a self for filling prophesy!

Sorry but no dice, it’s the start of the season so no fatigue, whoever steps out at HKR should be fresh and up to it, end of imo.

Until anything announced by the club, rumour of injury problems is hearsay, and if the rumour is wrong, could only worry families of the players concerned.

We were sat with Chris Green in hospitality last night, he rolled his ankle minutes into the first session at the camp. He was told he'll be 6 to 8 weeks more if he needs an op, though he hopes he'll be ok and manage the injury through the season. Adam Tangata said he didn't play last night with a rib injury but would be ok for next week, though might need a jab.

Chris Green is a big loss.
Think we're covered OK for Walker though with Jowitt.
Would prefer to use Hampshire on wing as I think Kershaw has been in a rut of bad form during the friendlies.

Ashurst didnt play due to his back last night which going on thd injury with him lsst season is concerning

It's unbelievable that players who came fit late last season or in close season are now getting injured

I've been on a mountain biking weekend in Scotland - bit of a niggle round the taint - unsure yet how long it will be until I can sit down; updates on Trinity TV as they happen.

Not really concerning as its what you'd expect.

I don't want to pint out the obvious here but our man CC has a bit of history for putting out the most negative slant possible at times and I don't blame him. Keep them guessing, apart from last season there have always been a fair few last-minute recoveries at Wakefield, as there are at most clubs.

I'm not saying its fake news or that it isn't all true, but then again I'm not saying that some of it might not be. Anyone who's been around RL a few years has seen it all before.
