I'm ok with him in second row but I'd have to check tackling stats to see what we lost without Ashurst.
To be honest I'd play Kelepi there too but as we are down on props and he does a decent job there I don't think it was a terrible decision.

I’m a huge admirer of Ashurst, he’s been one of our best for around 5 years but when Johnstone returns that left edge looks quite effective with Tanginoa, Tupou & Johnstone

Ashurst has been good but we need to progress and Pitts and Tanginoa should be in the 2nd row.
Losing King and probably Fifita but got Aydin and Gwaze, only need another prop.
Mathers was seen as a massive signing, so too Lee Smith but times move on.

But he’s not outstanding week in week out in either position. If you think he’s a S/R and not a prop fair enough but let’s not get into fickle territory by making false claims.

His form since joining Trinity has been patchy, today was a good patch

When he arrived mid 2019 he played a number of games at SR and was head and shoulders the best forward on the pitch getting MOTM numerous times.

We start 2020 and move him to prop... he is not a prop and hasn’t been as effective. He is the best SR at the club and certainly our most destructive runner.

I can understand if it was the odd game to cover injury but Chester has clearly tried to mould him to a prop and it was an epic failure.

I’ve always been in Chesters camp but it’s the one thing that’s always bugged me. Playing a player out of his natural and best position when there is no reason to do so.

Tanginoa is a genuine super League second row forward. Not quite sure how we term that minus scrums but the general loose play rules still probably apply. He's not there to be a battering ram. He's an on the edge, a wider running forward with pace to cut a team up.

I thought it was because we started really well on the right edge and Lyne was running all over their young centre for fun...we made 3-4 decent breaks down that side...maybe Hull tried fixing that up and over compensated and gaps started appearing on their right side...plus he was up against Fonua and Kelly on that side who can both be great with ball in hand but can be slow and lazy without the ball.

He had a cracking game but to be fair we were up against a patched up Hull side where no pack dominated...it was a pretty even game...last two games we’ve been against two dominant forward packs on form, full of confidence and near full strength. Would he have had the same impact in those two games at 2nd row...not sure he would?

I can see why Chester has tried him there because we looked ok in the back row but short in the forwards and have lacked punch and go forward at times...I still think he could do a job at prop if we had all our best players on the park playing well...if everyone is fit though he’s probably edging Ashurst out of it...which isn’t a bad thing as it brings competition for places which we don’t seem to have had much of for a long time...

You will miss him when he is gone.

Not sure how long his contract is with us but I’ve no doubt he will either sign for a top 4 team or return to the NRL when it is.
